[hydrokinetics]

[Somehow without noticing, Izuku had become one of Percy's primary questing partners. It was pretty easy to arrange stuff with him and figure it out together and this round of quests were a little more his speed anyway. While he wasn't sure if the unicorn one would work well for them, nor did he exactly trust either of them with arrows, the chimera one sounded simple enough. How hard could the requirements be?

...in his defense, he hadn't entirely read the whole thing all the way through before reaching out to Izuku to tackle said-quest. But he'd be a jerk to back out now and it's why he shows up at Izuku's house a day after they discussed it, knocking on the door and waving as soon as he sees the guy.]

Hey. Ready to get started?

[inheritance]

Ready! [Izuku chirps at him, looking pleased when he sees Percy standing there.]

Let's see... I remember seeing that we'd have to do this as soon as we start the quest so... [With a smile, Izuku offers his hand to Percy. Time to hold hands, partner!]

[hydrokinetics]

[He rolls his eyes goodnaturedly but okay, fine. He...reaches out and holds Izuku's hand. Great! Quest completed.

Okay not really, but it's not so bad.] Ever wonder why they make quests like these? [He's also going to start walking, pulling Izuku gently to get him to follow.]

[inheritance]

To make us all work together. [Izuku doesn't really hesitate before he answers. He's thought about this a lot.]

Most of the quests involve working together in groups. I think the more we experience things together, the more color we bring back to this world.

[hydrokinetics]

[Give him a second to consider that.]

Huh. I never thought about that but you have a good point. I haven't seen any solo quests yet. And look at what happened when everybody went after that positivity quest. That was a huge change. So the more we do the more it actually helps. [What a concept.]

[inheritance]

Yeah, for now it looks like the quests posted by #FFFFFF actually do help. It's why everyone still does these quests, even if we have no idea what their motives are.

[And into the forest they go!] Do you know anything about chimeras, Jackson-kun?

[hydrokinetics]

[Fair enough. It takes him a moment before he nods.]

Uh. I fought one on top of the St. Louis archway and fell like five-hundred feet after it blasted a hole in the side of the structure and poisoned me. [So there's that.] They're usually monsters with lion heads, goat bodies, and a snake tail. Plus they're venomous and breathe fire.

So...totally easy. [Haha.]

[inheritance]

[Izuku goes slack-jawed.] You fell five-hundred feet???

And, wait... I heard about the fire, but not the venom! I guess that's just one more thing to keep in mind when we find it.

[hydrokinetics]

Maybe a little higher? There was water underneath, it wasn't so bad. [He says, now that he's several years separated from it.]

These guys might not be venomous but I'd rather not take the chance and assume they aren't. The ones where I'm from could also shapeshift to hide what they were, but I don't think we'll have to worry about that here.

[inheritance]

[Izuku squints at him, just a little.] You say that so calmly.

So... I guess being a child of a god means you're used to monsters like these?

[hydrokinetics]

[SHRUG. Keep calm and slay monsters or whatever.]

Yeah, something like that. Demigods supposedly have some sort of scent that makes us easier to track down, but that's what we train for. Monsters and quests.

[This place is pretty standard fare, basically.]

[inheritance]

[Izuku nods--it makes sense that he and Annabeth would take this all in a stride if this is what they're used to anyway.]

What did you mean just now, about the scent? It makes it easier for the monsters to find you?

[hydrokinetics]

Oh yeah. It's hard to go anywhere without something finding us. That's kind of the problem. It's the same reason we don't carry cell phones that often at home. Sends out a signal.

...for all we know the chimera out there is going to find us first before we find it.

[inheritance]

[He pauses at that.] Your cellphones send out signals to monsters?

[That's rough, buddy.]

[hydrokinetics]

I never said being a half-blood wasn't a rough gig. [But yeah!!] Annabeth usually has hers for emergencies but we try not to use them especially if we're on a quest.

[The forest is quiet and Percy's listening closely even as he holds onto Izuku's hand.] ...this thing is probably going to try to sneak up on us, so be prepared.

[inheritance]

Probably. [Izuku cocks his head to the side and listens.]

I think I hear something. [And sure enough, there's rustling up ahead.] Okay, plan time. What are your offensive abilities?

[hydrokinetics]

[Great! Perfect!

...yeah, he's moving closer to the source. Come along, Izuku.]

Hydrokinetics and I've been fighting with a sword since I was twelve. I can do both of those one-handed. What've you got?

[inheritance]

Super strength... and enhanced speed. [He mumbles to himself for a moment, even while he's being tugged along toward the chimera.]

Can you use your hydrokinetics even when there's no water around?

[hydrokinetics]

Yeah. I can create my own water source if I have to or by pulling it out of the ground or air. [Strength and speed are good though.] Got a plan?

[They should maybe think of one with the chimera-rustling getting closer.]

[inheritance]

I've got something. Several books mentioned the chimera being fast, so we should try to take it out before it really gets a chance to attack us.

[A pause.] If you shoot water at it right when we see it, maybe you could distract it enough for me to get us both closer and get a hit in. That way we don't give it a chance to recover.

[hydrokinetics]

Blind the main set of eyes and take out the firepower. That's not a bad idea. How fast can you move holding onto somebody else though?

[The paw of the chimera appears from the bush. The rest probably isn't too far behind. Better think fast, boys.]

[inheritance]

[Izuku manages to grin at him before the chimera catches up to them.] Pretty fast.

Okay, you're up first, Jackson-kun!

[hydrokinetics]

I'm on it! [The chimera leaps out of the bushes of the forest and Percy's hand moves, water appearing at his fingertips and creating a small burst that he flings into the chimera's eyes and mouth. The creature begins to roar angrily, stomping closer in its rage.]

[inheritance]

Here we go! [Once the water hits, Izuku jumps into action himself, his free arm wrapping around Percy's waist as boosts his actions with his quirk.

With a giant leap, he's in front of the chimera at all in no time at all. Crack!! He slams his feet down on the lion and goat heads in a brutal double-kick, knocking them both out instantly.]

Quick, get the dragon head, Jackson-kun!

[hydrokinetics]

[IZUKU WHAT?! Percy almost yells but then he remembers that a.) superspeed is a thing b.) superstrength is a thing and c.) this actually works out pretty well. With Izuku holding his hand and also holding his waist, it gives Percy enough leverage with his free hand to redirect the blast of water straight into the dragon's head, disorienting the creature even as he jerks himself and Izuku to the side to bypass a burst of flame.

He reaches for the pen in his pocket then and uncaps Riptide, not paying attention to where the cap's going before the butt of the sword slams into the dragon's head.

Dragon head...down!]

Dude. Nice shot. [Those are some powerful legs?? Holy shit.] Make sure it's not gonna get back up.
