A little wolf-ey ness doesn't deter Hunk from venturing into town in the daytime, though he takes care to try to stay as far as possible in the night. The laaast thing he wants to do is hurt or bite someone. He's a little beat and missing out on sleep hence dark circles under his eyes but he smiles all the same, sheepishly.]
Sorry dude, [apologetically, as he recognises Cairngorm and then curiously looks at the scattered books.] Themed reading week, huh?
[ Despite recognizing the other, they can't help but continue scowling, quickly working to re-alphabetize the books so they can stack them correctly while they speak. ]
Yes. My planet doesn't have wolves. [ So reading about them is the best they can do at the current moment, the only method they could think of to try and find more efficient ways at fighting them that didn't involve asking someone else. ] There's more of them every night, so I have to learn quickly.
[ aka, find some sort of weakness, if there was one, quickly. ]
I know that part. [ They wave their hand dismissively. ] I meant how. Like a blade made of silver?
[ Logistically speaking they know that's already impossible, since they would have to not only mine the ore but then make the blade...or just find one lying around. But this is still important information. ]
[ So it's the moon, not just night time in general, that caused the wolves to be active? The more you know. ]
Well, I did think it was strange that the moon has been full for a few nights in a row. I didn't know it was related to the issue.
[ They step a little back towards the library, as if expecting him to follow. This new hint is giving them incentive to search for something else. ]
But with your travels, you should already know that a lunar pattern like this should be astrologically impossible. It seems deliberate, given the sudden appearance of those things.
[ They open the door to the library and leave it open so that he can enter too, scanning the books in the shelves. ]
I've only been looking for texts containing wolves, but I haven't been thinking much about the moon as a factor in it all. In fact, it's barely mentioned in these texts.
[ Slowly, they place one of the books in their arms back in it's rightful place, reading the spines of the books organized next to it. ]
Do you remember from where you learned about their connection to the moon?
[ So...from other stories. It's too bad there isn't a definite answer, but they can't blame him, so they just go about placing the books back on the shelf. ]
Where I lived before coming here, we didn't have any myths or anything like that, but we had a lot of texts about lunar patterns. Most of what happens here gets explained away by "magic", or whatever, but I don't know if something as imprecise as that can explain what's happening here.
[ Hunk's been to space, so they definitely trust his opinion on anything related to the celestial, more than their own limited understanding of it. They lean against one of the shelves, flipping through the pages of one of the books idly. ]
What do you think? For how much longer do you think its possible for the moon to stay like that.
I mean, it shouldn't be possible for the moon to be like that to begin with.
[Hunk gestures vaguely with a wrinkle of his nose.] The moon just doesn't stop... rotating. The max it might look full is four days. Tops. If it goes beyond that, there's more to it than just a full moon.
I mean, if it went on for too long you'd see reactions on this planet.
Normally we would be able to tell by the shift in tide, or something like that, but that creepy water keeps us from making that sort of judgment...
[ Yet another aggravating part of this dump. To be honest, they are quite skeptical of all that magic stuff, if only because its so...far-fetched from their own reality, seems so impossible that its hard to take the things that happen here very seriously. ]
If it's "more" than just a full moon...do you believe in "magic" then? As that being the cause of so much here.
[Hunk sighs out at the question and puts his hands on his hips, his head hanging like this is something he's thought about wayyyy too many times before.]
I mean... I don't want to. Believe in magic. But, like, even back where I'm from there're aliens with these magical-ish abilities. So we've gotta consider it as a reason.

[Wolf themed...]

Oh. Yeah. Your standard wolves are pretty different from werewolves, though.
[He turns his head to peer at the spines of the books.] Usually, like, in the movies people get them with silver.
no subject
Silver. What do you mean by that?
[ If they sound extra demanding, it's only because they're so desperate for answers. ]

[Hunk looks at them, waiting for any sign of recognition...]

[Hunk shrugs helplessly, thinking the same thing... there's probably not a ready supply of silver here.]
no subject
So they are weak to all silver. Not that it matters much since there's none here...
[ Big sigh. They finish collecting the books, lifting the large stack back up easily. ]
You don't know any other weakness they have?
no subject
It's mostly been silver in everything I've ever seen or read about them.
I mean, maybe if there was a way to make the moon go away, but that'd be even tougher than digging silver out of the ground.

[Hunk shakes his head as he follows after them, not really thinking twice about it. Of course he'll come along! Help look.]
So, what're you looking for this time around?

[Hunk squints.] It's, like, from a few myths about them. I'm not exactly sure which one would mention it.
There's not exactly a lot of varied books around aside from fairytales. But, I mean. It's been full moon ever since they showed up, so.
