[ Minato has a sword?! Minato has a sword, apparently. He'll have to ask about that. Mostly, he's surprised anyone is still using swords in 150 years when guns are already replacing them in his own time - but Minato uses his gun on himself, so maybe it's not effective against the shadow monsters? Then again, he said it wasn't a real gun.
Oh well. He's not one for weapons, anyway. ]
Exactly. I've got a knack for getting in trouble, anyway. Even if I stayed inside, I'd get wrapped up in this some other way.
[ he hears those howls, too, but as far as he can tell, they're not close enough that the two of them need to worry... yet. ]
[ Yeah, he recognizes that look - but the fact of the matter is that if he got bitten, there's a good chance she would, too. He's a master thief who's had years of practice getting out of sticky situations; she's a spirited young lady, for sure, but he feels anxious just imagining her running out there armed with nothing but her good intentions. ]
I understand how you feel, but you can't be reckless. Those werewolves are dangerous - they're strong, fast, and more clever than you'd think. Being a little bit afraid is warranted in this situation.
[ he scratches his head. ]
I'd offer to go with you or teach you some self-defense, but... I think I'd be pretty useless at the moment.
[ dextera thinks… he’s safe. or at least as safe as he’s going to get in close quarters with crowley, who is surely immensely powerful but simultaneously too casual to do anything about it. it’s a blessing, but it does mean that dextera needs to be careful all the more at moments like these. ]
…
[ it’s stupid, then, that he moves his hand to touch crowley’s face—but it feels like the right thing to do, not for crowley, but any time he purifies someone like this. it’s what he would want, after that pain.
[ she stops the channeling and quickly kneels down beside his passed out figure. she checks his head for a fever, looks around to make sure the coast is clear, and then carefully starts to pull him by the shoulders to get him to a safe place. when the sun comes up, this mess should be over... at least until the next night comes. ]
[This is the perfect chance; he should just run away while Lupin is distracted. But before he even tries, he knows he won't.
He can't just leave Lupin here to run into another citizen, perhaps one less equipped to fight him off than himself. And... he can't just abandon Lupin if he's hurting.
[ The response is better than she was honestly expecting, but... The only person she has to compare it to is Booker. It wasn't like he had any time to teach her anything, and she's not completely sure if she would have wanted him to, but there was still that understanding between them. He was the one that fought. She helped him throughout the fight. But she realized just before coming here that it wasn't something she could rely on.
She's still bristling a little bit at being questioned, but it's at least fading quickly. ]
I'll be careful. I promise that, at least.
[ But she's definitely not promising to not look for the cure, since, well. She already knows she'd break that promise. ]
...But it's okay. I understand, and thank you for considering it. [ She makes a thoughtful noise, but there's definitely a note of mild frustration in it ] After, though... I'd appreciate it. I was-- I do need to get better at that kind of thing.
[Why does she have to be the responsible adult here....?
With a deep sigh, her expression relaxes into something that’s part-worried but also willing at this point to just forget and forgive.]
You’re welcome. What are friends for, after all? [...probably not for wrapping up a heart with one bite taken out of it, but exceptions must be made in these circumstances.]
[Yusuke shouts, his hand ripping the mask off of his face as a figure appears in lashing blue flame overhead.
When Yusuke gestures, so too does the figure swing its sword down, a sheer wall of ice bursting into existence immediately before them. Not the nicest thing to slam into if you're a lunging werewolf, really.]
[Yusuke clears the jump shortly after her, sighing wistfully at the mention.]
Yes... more than once I've wished that I had such.
Or, that I had some sort of technology that would allow me to see in the dark. A friend of mine has something of the sort, but I doubt it would be easy to make here.
[ With the amount of money the Okumura household (which is just her now) has, she could basically be Batman -- alas!
At the edge of the roof, she kneels down and peers over the edge and onto the inky-black horizon. If she waits long enough, the gloam greys itself up and is slightly easier to see in, as her eyes adjust to the situation. They have a pretty good view from here, Haru thinks. Nearly 270 degrees with minimal movement. Hopefully he won't mind stopping for a moment as she makes conversation, voice a bit distracted. ]
[ That isn't what she meant! Although Haru isn't sure what she did mean in the immediate aftermath. Her abilities aren't exactly geared toward inoffensive guarding. She wants to help him! She just... She doesn't know how. ]
That's perfectly understandable.
[ Thinking, thinking, thinking... ]
Although it wouldn't be my intention to use it on you, I realise it's no longer an effective deterrent.
[Unlike the other two, Kamui doesn't waste any time worrying about others. He's out here for one reason and one reason only: to hunt. Night after night of these would-be werewolves has him buzzing with constant adrenaline and excitement. Though he's already decided a fight tonight, it had ended far too quickly for his liking. His instincts are screaming at him for more.
So when he sees something fall to the earth like a damn cannonball, hears Rin's anxious curse, immediately, his reflexes act on his desires. In one fluid motion, Kamui whirls around, raises his parasol gun, and fires a single bullet at Kaoru's forehead.]
[A part of her recognized Rin as a friend and she grit her teeth then opened her mouth and she wasn't sure what she wanted to say. Maybe run? But there was something else, something stronger than her own will that was prepared to attack.
She hears the gunshot before she sees it but what are bullets, really? She hasn't been scared of such things since she was ten. She turned around and reached out with her hand and waved it to the side, making the bullet fly off course and into the ground.
Then she moves her hand back in the other direction to throw Kamui into a nearby wall hard enough it would probably have broken someone's bones if they were normal.]
I'm happy for your feelings, but I wouldn't have made it this far if I couldn't take care of myself.
[ the response is cheery, although perhaps less persuasive than usual, considering Minato just had to heal him. Despite how he'd like to appear, Lupin isn't perfect. ]
Besides, I'm your elder. I should be the one worrying about you, here.
[ he groans, shaking his head. His face can't emote very much anymore, but he certainly sounds like he's suffering. His lupine ears are tilted back in discomfort. ]
Not thinking straight...
[ to say the least. Who could think straight when they're this hungry? His face feels so strange; for the first time, he notices that it's probably different from usual. ]
[ And he gets the feeling that she's not going to listen to him... which is beyond his control, really. Even if he's worried about her, it's not like he can tell her it's a bad idea when, clearly, he went out and did the same. All he can do is sigh, sounding defeated, but not unhappy, per se. ]
If you get hurt, I'll be mad at you. Don't forget it.
[ that's the best he can do! ]
Just remember there's no shame in running. You can't lose a fight that never starts. [ a pause; Lupin smiles wryly. ] Advice I should have taken myself a little earlier, clearly.
