Event Six.

he full moon hangs brightly over the Town, hovering so low that it almost feels as though you could reach out and touch it. It should be comforting. But as the howl of wolves fills the air, it's anything but. There are werewolves on the prowl, and their target is very clear -- the Town won't be able to last without your help. [Rin's work with the defense force had kept him from checking on friends that weren't with him in those first few days. He knew many of them were capable of taking care of themselves, but that didn't mean he was without worry. He was simply too preoccupied, needing to be where he was, to take leave and go hunt each and every one of them down. Daytime did afford looking for some of them, but among those numbers he had found and confirmed the safety of Kaoru wasn't one of them.

If anyone would have been capable of handling themselves and surviving the attacks it would have been her... right?

Eventually, though, supplies were needed for the Flavo team stationed at the church, and Rin of course was the one to volunteer to go. He had his sword on him, because why wouldn't he, but it didn't feel like the usual comfort at his side. Any of those werewolves that were prowling around could be someone he knew... or even just a victim that was a stranger. Regardless, the last thing he wanted to do was hurt anyone. Even if they were attacking him first.

It was on his way to his place in Bluo that he picked up on someone flying towards him, turning while continuing to jog backwards while looking to the sky.

Hey, that was--]

Kaoru!

[Mistake. It was a good thing he was still moving because it kept him from getting caught up in the shockwave of her landing. He stumbled back two steps, and it was mere seconds before he realized this was not good.]

... fuck.

[foeyay]

[Unlike the other two, Kamui doesn't waste any time worrying about others. He's out here for one reason and one reason only: to hunt. Night after night of these would-be werewolves has him buzzing with constant adrenaline and excitement. Though he's already decided a fight tonight, it had ended far too quickly for his liking. His instincts are screaming at him for more.

So when he sees something fall to the earth like a damn cannonball, hears Rin's anxious curse, immediately, his reflexes act on his desires. In one fluid motion, Kamui whirls around, raises his parasol gun, and fires a single bullet at Kaoru's forehead.]

[A part of her recognized Rin as a friend and she grit her teeth then opened her mouth and she wasn't sure what she wanted to say. Maybe run? But there was something else, something stronger than her own will that was prepared to attack.

She hears the gunshot before she sees it but what are bullets, really? She hasn't been scared of such things since she was ten. She turned around and reached out with her hand and waved it to the side, making the bullet fly off course and into the ground.

Then she moves her hand back in the other direction to throw Kamui into a nearby wall hard enough it would probably have broken someone's bones if they were normal.]

Don't get in my way!

[The shot ringing out makes Rin flinch, not for himself but for Kaoru. Had she been struck he would have immediately snapped at Kamui for firing at her. She smacked it aside easily, though, and watching Kamui go in to the nearest wall did temporarily give Rin a bit of satisfaction.

His main focus was on Kaoru, and even as she yelled at him he approached with careful steps and an outstretched hand.]

H-hey, don't chase me off, okay? I know what you're goin' through... you don't wanna hurt anyone, right? Lemmie help you...

[foeyay]

[When she waves the bullet aside, lead defeated by nothing more than a gesture, surprise sends shivers down Kamui's spine. His eyes widen, muscles tighten, and yet his smirk stretches like he's just smoothly walked away from the nastiest explosion the world has ever seen.

That's as far as he gets before his backside slams into a wall, shattering stone and crumbling mortar in its wake.

Rin's slow and cautious plea gives Kamui the time he needs to peel himself from the wall's remains and re-sheathe his parasol. If bullets aren't going to work, he'll have to do this the fun way. Not immediately, however. In return for getting to experience Kaoru's power, he can at least give Rin a chance to make the right choice first, a chance to incapacitate Kaoru by any means necessary. He's seen a glimpse of that girl's power now, and he's feeling greedy. He wants to know what Rin can do too.

Kamui cracks his knuckles and observes.]

[Her ears twitched briefly when Kamui peeled himself from the wall, having definitely noticed him but her entire focus was on Rin.

There was a roiling anger in her that wasn't exactly new but the depth of it was different, the violence had only fanned it. Coupled with the wolf's instinct telling her to attack it was no longer possible to think clearly.

So rather than listen, Kaoru turns to Rin with a low growl before jumping towards him to punch him. It would be inadvisable to take that hit since she's putting her power into that hit.]

[For the moment Kamui was a footnote in this fight for both of them, and that was fine with Rin. He was focused on keeping his friend from doing any further damage to herself or any other unlucky soul that came across her.

He knew she was strong. Hell, she was damn near on par with Amaimon, and that was impressive considering he was one of the more powerful of the Demon Kings back home.

But he's also not going to run away from her.

He catches the fist with his own hand, enough concussive energy from the contact causing the ground beneath his feet to splinter and dent. He even feels a slight cracking in the bones of his arm, but it does little more than make him shake slightly. His fingers curl in to her knuckles, holding that fist tight as his other hand curls in to one as well.

That'll hurt, but a cracked bone was the least of his concerns at the moment. It'll heal eventually.]

... sorry, Kaoru. I can't let you do this to anyone else.

[His other hand swung with a trail of blue flames, aiming for her face in an attempt to knock her back off her feet.]
