WHAT: Bored annoyed children decided that fire was the answer to their boredom. By which I mean: they've built a bonfire by the well. Anyone and everyone is free to join them.
WHEN: Let's say 3/19!
WHERE: The well, though you're free to wander around, of course.
WARNINGS: Foul-mouthed children, really.


I.
[ There is a stack of wood by the well, crudely chopped.

When did that get there?? That's weird. Who would go around just putting poorly chopped wood by the well for some reason? Speaking of, the "wood" is a real hack job, all split branches and twigs and small logs. It's almost like some kids put all this here or something.

Actually some kids did put this all here. Because here's Vriska and Kenny walking up with more wood. ]

Hey! We're gonna start a bonfire. Wanna help us?

[Fortunately for those around, Kenny's hood is down.]

It'll be cool! The more wood we get, the bigger the fire. Who doesn't like fire?

II.
[ The fire is going! It is a big roaring warm bonfire. It's, uh, gray, so the light of it is not quite as bracing as it could be, but it is undeniably providing heat and light, so there's that, at least.

Come by and get warm, or roast something over the fire, provided you found something, uh, roastable. There's probably a few fish, their tails sticking out of the well's bucket, which seems to have been repurposed as a fish holding device. At the very least, there's a few sticks set aside for roasting!

Meanwhile, Vriska and Kenny don't look completely satisfied. ]

Man. We need more stuff to burn. Or cook. Or both.

I saw a store. Let's go see what we can find.

[It's later in the evening when he shows up, slinking along like a dog with its tail between its legs as he eyes the fire and the people around it. He seems to be looking for someone in particular to kind of avoid for now and it's why he finds himself wandering directly toward Dave. He doesn't say anything, sitting on the ground next to him and letting the well prop him up as well. He stares into the flames for a little bit before speaking though.]

I cannot believe she had to build a bigger fire than we did. [Things that are a joke: that.]

I'm pretty sure she did it better, too.

[ dave's voice is a little rough around the edges but he doesn't cough or anything; for the most part, he's managing to play off being sick pretty well. he just glances over to assess john before returning his gaze to the fire. which is, really, pretty impressive. ]

So, a life ring.

[windeity]

Man don't say that. [Even though it's totally true. He doesn't notice Dave's voice sounding a little rough if only because he's still getting used to it. Instead, he stares at the flames and frowns a little because right.]

Life ring. [...] What kind of dream bubbles did you visit?

[parodeity]

All kinds. We passed through lots of 'em. Eventually stopped bothering leaving the meteor when we were physically passing through them, but when it was dream time, you know. Whatever. People's memories, I guess, but all mashed up and overlaid with dead alien teenager romance drama.

[windeity]

Given how many quadrants they have I think there isn't much we could have done to avoid their dead romance. I think I saw Rose in a dream bubble once. She kind of saved me by being a huge distraction.

[Thanks Rose. There's another pause.] I was in a bubble once and I found this ring that is supposed to bring people back to life. Vriska wanted me to give it to her and I told her I was not comfortable with giving it to her when she's kind of a dangerous person. You can imagine how well she took that.

[parodeity]

[ an actual grimace flickers across his face. ]

Yeah, I know. [ RE: ROSE. STILL MILDLY PEEVED ABOUT THAT. ]

...But honestly, probably not a bad call considerin' how many dead bodies that girl leaves in her wake. I mean, discounting the apparent murderspree everyone when on when the trolls were alive, she sure did kill a lot of ghosts, or something? I kind of tuned that whole thing out after sayin' "no thanks" to joining up.

[windeity]

[There's a shrug.] Either way, she was pretty mad at me when we both realized we were here since I wouldn't bring her to life and basically told her she was a monster. I do feel kind of bad, but at the same time it was the right move. Right?

[parodeity]

I mean... [ is he being asked to pick sides...he's obviously fucking biased, but. ] It's understandable you feel bad if someone's upset with you, because that is the kind of person you are - but also that's kind of a spiderman scenario. There are a lot of fuckin' dead people, and handing apparently the only method I've heard of for a revive outside of, you know, the other methods - handing it over to the first person who asked would maybe be monumentally stupid, especially if she was, presumably, at that time doing the whole ghost army thing? There's no way for you to know for sure if it would have blown up like it sounds it would have. But generally that kind of shit works itself out. If you didn't give her the ring, it was always meant to end up somewhere else. That kind of fate is kind of worked into the timeline, you know? There's probably someone else who was meant to have it.

That doesn't mean that there's anything you can say about the whys or whatever that'll make her less pissed, but I don't think you're in the wrong, although I get bein' upset about being for-sure dead and out of the main timeline realm of importance.

[ he has to stop and clear his throat. too many words and his throat is too sore. ]

...Don't let someone bully you into changing your mind, I guess, but don't be a dick about it, either? If you want my advice.

You're probably right. But she is still pretty mad about it and she hit me with fish and it was a lot of dumb arguing. I am pretty sure she will not be getting over it anytime soon.

Either way, it's...is it about importance? I don't know, Vriska the last time I really saw her was going after the treasure and that is when I got all of my new timeline powers. Maybe she is also kind of mad about that. I'm not going to let her change my mind since I cannot even given her the ring, but I also don't think we were planning on getting stuck together like this.

It might be. [ a shrug. ] For someone who as far as I can tell wanted to be very, very important, coming face to face with someone who still is [ the only one here who still is ] who refused to let you have a come back probably sucks. But yeah. I don't think it was the wrong move but if you are trying to understand that's my best guess

[windeity]

[He just kind of drops his head in his hands.] I guess I will just give her time to cool off before asking about it again. If we are going to be here for a while we are probably going to have to work together anyway.

Have you talked to Terezi much since this morning?

[parodeity]

[ he lifts his eyebrows. ] Not really? I mean, I talked to her on my post, but we didn't meet up after, if that's what you mean. We're on good terms, so.

[ there aren't any real problems even if they used to date. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ dave sewed her up day one and they're operating in their usual back and forth manner. ]

Or did something in particular happen?

No, nothing in particular! [Which is true. He was curious what, if anything, Terezi may have told Dave about their plan for back home or what had happened the last time she and John spoke but it may be for the better that didn't come up.] I guess I was just wondering.

It's kind of funny that it ended up being us and them, isn't it?

[parodeity]

Because they were the trolls who bothered us most while in game, you mean? [ and there'd been, briefly, a your human versus mine thing dave thinks, but he's pretty sure john never noticed or cared. ] Yeah, kinda thematic somehow?

[windeity]

Yeah, exactly. Like out of all of them and all of us that is who is here. I don't think any of our other friends are here yet either. I can almost hardly believe it has been that long since we first started talking to them and now we're all stuck here doing whatever the fuck.

[...but anyway.] At the same time it's sort of nice. Having other people.

...Insofar as you can have other people, at least.

[ there are people around, and that's...fine, but dave feels disconnected at times and unsure of how to not. it's an issue he had on the meteor, too, though. usually the answer was to go and work on can town. ]

[windeity]

[He remembers they briefly talked about it this morning even if it was just idle conversation, but this time he listens again.]

...are you still kind of unsettled? [It's quiet so that he doesn't draw attention to them, but he keeps his attention focused on Dave anyway.]

[parodeity]

[ his shoulder lifts and falls. he's sick and he misses the fucking meteor (which is dumb, he hated it there) but really what he misses are the people, probably. ]

I'm fine. [ he's really not, but he won't ask john for anything when john's worse off, probably. or even if john wasn't, admittedly. ] Bonfires make me philosophical, though. Like, the great debates of our times, you know? Like Why are folders called folders? That's egregious misbrandin' when we put shit in them so they don't get folded. They're unfolders.

[windeity]

[Maybe talking to your friends would help, Dave. But John doesn't push and instead he just nods. He doesn't entirely buy it, but if Dave says so. Instead, he can at least play along with the philosophical bullshit.]

You fold them in half to protect the papers though. Duh.

[ it's dave: he prefers to just keep his problems to himself and pretend he doesn't have them, with the result that he overreacts with surprise and confused warmth to any actual displays of concern or support from other people. idly realizing you would die for someone who gave you soup is probably not normal.

but, like, neither are the weird moments of people taking care of him, so whatever. ]

What! Come on, you know it's true! [He's laughing because it's. So dumb, but whatever! It's fine.]

Banned. [ just repeating that. ] My statement still stands. You should eat.

Right. Are you going to eat, too? Our resources are kind of limited so far but it's also only the first day.

[parodeity]

I already ate. [ he sure did fucking not, but his appetite is less there than usual at the moment, the idea of scarfing down mutant fish rather unappealing. ] And apparently there's, like, a lot of wild game. It may or may not eventually mutate us but eh.

So what, we're going to be hunting for a lot of our own food here? I am not sure I'm good at that.
