WHAT: Vriska's been a statue for a month. She's going to wake up confused and deeply unhappy. Please hit me up at heartfuls for plotting if you'd like to plan a specific thread, i am 100% open to anything!!

[ She wakes up.

... first of all. She wakes up, when she doesn't need to sleep and doesn't remember trying to go to sleep. With no real clear idea of why or how or what the fuck, she just kind of abruptly comes back to herself while standing on her feet.

She is so baffled by this state of affairs that it takes her a second to notice the ... rest. The rest, which is: 1) like two blankets wrapped around her, 2) a sign hanging off her neck??, and 3) her hair feels DISGUSTING, why IS that.

Never once in her life and death has Vriska been okay with losing control. And the dawning realization that some Really Weird Shit Must Have Happened without her even knowing does not exactly make her happy. Her expression undergoes an amazing transformation from blank confusion to apoplectic rage in record time. ]

.... Minato? MINATO? [ shrill. very shrill. and loud. she at least recognizes that she's outside their hive when she looks up and boy he better have some kinda answers. ]


[ OPEN to all ]

[ The answers are not satisfying, regardless of what they actually are.

Whenever her talk with Minato ends she'll end up going towards the center of town because it's the best place she can think of to yell at the largest possible number of people all at once. ]

You missed a lot of bullshit by being a statue. The furniture in our houses started screaming at us about things they shouldn't have known about. Whatever we were the most insecure about it started screaming about that.

Then our shadows were trying to murder us for a week. Some of them succeeded.

[ Vriska folds her arms over her chest, her expression shifting into something wry. She certainly appreciates Shouto's candor, that's for sure. ]

Honestly, I have heard much stranger things. But that still sucks. Did people actually die? [ A look of vague, like, concern? ] I don't know what the rules are around here when it comes to death. Are they fucking toast, or what?

[glaciers]

[He just shoves his hands in his pockets and frowns.]

Midoriya disappeared. He only reappeared after the shadows went back to normal. [The frown graduates to a scowl. After all of Shouto's fussing and Midoriya still gets himself hurt-] And he came back with injuries.

Anyway, it seems like the color of his text is missing. But it seems like if we die, we'll come back. Not that I'm encouraging anybody to try it.

What? You mean your friend from your world, the other-- the hero kid, right? [ She looks impressed, though not in a good way. ] Holy shit. I'm sorry to hear that, even if he came back. I'm sure it was pretty freaky.

[ Vriska presses a palm to her cheek, frowning thoughtfully. ] I knew it. Shenanigans. Someone's controlling this whole situation. Testing us? Who knows, but we'd better find out what they want. If they can kill people and bring them back, they've got powers we may not even have words for. That's some eldritch god stuff, you know?

[ She talks like she knows. ]

There's six of us, but Midoriya is one of them, that's right. [He runs his hand through his hair, ruffling it. He was really worried, and he's still really worried. Just because the shadows aren't attacking them now doesn't mean they won't attack them again sometime.] He's more or less fine now. I made him get his injuries checked.

[Then he looks bewildered. Is he supposed to know about that? Sure he's heard of quirks that can heal people, but usually at some cost.] I... don't know? From what the quests on the forum are asking, they want us to do a bunch of weird errands. Those seem to get us useful things back and color.

I hate being pulled around, but it's the best lead so far.

Pff. Yeah, it starts out harmless. Little tasks here and there to see what we're capable of. It'll get harder. The more we prove we're up to, the more they'll want from us. And trust me, they're not looking out for our best interests. They may want us to think it, because it'd sure make their lives easier if we did! But you don't fuck up and murder some kids if you're a real nice guy.

[ She huffs through her nose, eyes narrowed. She looks around the town, really looks at it, as if she suspects the very buildings around them to explode suddenly. ]

I'm not sure the shadows are the same thing as the thing posting to the network. It seemed like they couldn't get on the laptops. ... But nobody knows who that guy is either.

... I don't thing the walls are going to drag anybody to their deaths. At least not right now.

... point, but honestly I'm going to assume everything around here wants to use and or kill us until proven otherwise.

[ dryly. she twirls a hand. ]

That's probably fair. The walls didn't try to kill us, but they didn't want us to sleep either.

[ a slow, thoughtful sigh. ]

Not to ascribe angry haunted furniture too much agency or anything, but I can't help but wonder how they knew.

I have no idea. I haven't talked about it in this town. ... Furniture shouldn't be able to read minds like that.

[ she moves a hand. ] I won't ask you to tell me. It's just disturbing to consider they have some kind of access to our minds, or our history. Or both.

The shadows didn't have any access to that. They just tried to kill us and sow discord.

That was the "Trying to kill us" part. The other part was just insulting other people and trying to start fights between us.

[ Vriska presses a curled fist to his mouth, glancing away, obviously thinking deeply. ]

... how much did all of this overlap? The furniture and the shadows.

Not at all. The furniture happened a week or two after we first arrived, and then there was a gap when nothing happened.

Then the shadows started off being mildly annoying, trying to make people trip and insult people. Before they started trying to kill us.

Can you remember how long the gap was? [ she presses. ] And how long the furniture acted up.

[glaciers]

The furniture problems lasted about a week.

I think the gap was two or three weeks? ... Midoriya probably kept track of it. He's good at that kind of thing.

Sorry, I don't mean to grill you. [ she runs a hand through her hair. ] I'll ask him. I'm just trying to get as much information as I can. I am tired of playing games, Shouto.

[ Her mouth briefly thins into a line. ]

Especially by others' rules. I've had enough with being fucked around with, used and discarded like some tool-- it's bullshit. We don't deserve this and if I don't do anything else with my waste of an existence I am going to put a stop to it.

It's fine. I'd probably try to do the same thing if I didn't live through it.

[Ah. He can definitely understand not wanting to be a tool, but he's not sure if he should actually say anything about that.

He's actually at a loss for what to say here. Comforting people is hard and not something he's had a lot of practice in.]

... honestly, I'm sure you'll be able to do plenty to help, but as far as it goes for me ... keeping everyone safe is probably enough? Looking after others just isn't really my strong suit. So if we start fucking shit up around here, well... it shouldn't be me looking after everyone's safety.

[While he notes the way she says it, he doesn't press on it either. Things like that can be really difficult. Even All Might can't save everybody... But this sounds different. Like she was the reason other people got hurt.

... Didn't she say she was a ghost?]

I'll do my best to keep everyone safe. That's part of what a hero does.

[ vriska sniffs, rubbing at her face, not looking at him.
