[OPEN] Town Hall Meeting

WHERE: City Hall, Ruga
WHEN: April 15-20th, and then April 21st
WHAT: Town Hall Meeting #1, as announced here
WARNINGS: Expedition discussions may not be pleasant

[ Like much of the town, the old city hall building sits on unsteady legs. Brick and stone chipped away by time, or lack of care, but the building itself is still standing, roof mostly intact. It stands out from the buildings beside it, columns lining along the front windows and dilapidated steps leading up to the main entrance. It needs some work, but it's big. It will do. ]

Being prepared is half the battle, I always say. [ he never says this, but nobody has to know that. ] I'd like to look at it when you're done. Maybe we can start making some real progress on getting out of here.

Um... [Izuku trails off, eyes scanning him very obviously for a nametag.] I don't think we've met before. I'm Izuku Midoriya.

[ he has one!! his name is written on it in clean, cursive English - just "Lupin." The hesitant greeting is met with a friendly, reassuring smile. ]

You can call me Lupin. It's a pleasure to meet you, monsieur Midoriya. [ here's where he'd tip his hat if it hadn't gotten stolen by shadows. Izuku looks young... Lupin feels a little sad seeing him here. A kid shouldn't have to be subjected to this. Whatever "this" is. He still doesn't know. ] I've been working on a map of the town, myself. We ought to work together.

[inheritance]

[Monsieur. The word makes his lips tug up into a smile despite himself, an image of Aoyama flashing in his mind briefly. He wonders if his friend and the rest of his classmates are doing alright back home.]

It's nice to meet you, Lupin-san. O-of course I'd be happy to work with you on any projects like that! [The smile dims for a moment.] I tried to put together a map of the forest, but I don't know how useful it'll be in the long run, with the way things turned out.

[heartsteals]

Be careful with that. The forest seems like it doesn't keep a constant layout.

[ he sounds a little concerned... his roommate got all the color sucked out of him for like a week after going into the woods. ]

[inheritance]

I know. [The smile completely fades now.]

We...realized that when we went in and the forest shifted around us.

[heartsteals]

I figured as much... In that case, I'm glad you made it out in one piece.

[ he has to assume - he's standing here, after all. ]

[inheritance]

I-I'm glad, too. There were some injuries, but thankfully everyone was able to recover from those...

[Izuku twists his hands together.]

Even if we knew the risks of going in, I just wish they weren't necessary to begin with.

[heartsteals]

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about that. Our job is just to minimize those risks - having a good resource on what's out there will be a big first step. You're on the right track.

[inheritance]

I've been trying to tell myself that. [Izuku looks at him, smile wobbly and uncertain. The reminder doesn't always work.]

But...if the beastiary will help even a little, then I'll make sure I do my best to put it together.
