[OPEN] Town Hall Meeting

WHAT: Town Hall Meeting #1, as announced here

[ Like much of the town, the old city hall building sits on unsteady legs. Brick and stone chipped away by time, or lack of care, but the building itself is still standing, roof mostly intact. It stands out from the buildings beside it, columns lining along the front windows and dilapidated steps leading up to the main entrance. It needs some work, but it's big. It will do. ]

[Hell, he missed being around people that thought like that. As eager to fight as the glaive had been when they signed on, so many of them turned jaded over time.]

You and me both, I guess. It's good to know.

[That earns another little smile, even as Izuku glances around the hall that's still fairly empty. Understandable, when he did make a point to get here early.]

It looks like it might be a while before we start the meeting. [Cue the questions! Izuku can't help but be curious about his new companion here.] So...is there anyone else from your world here? From what I know, there's only a handful of us who ended up here with people we already knew.

[He considers a moment on how to phrase it, knowing that Noctis doesn't want to be referred to as 'Majesty'. He likely doesn't want others to know he's a king at all. Nyx can understand that, as weird as it is to not pay him the respect he's earned. But they're not technically friends for all that they've been friendly to each other. So how does he talk about him?]

Two people I know through work are here as well. We only really knew each other in passing before this. Not close enough to really justify why the three of us were taken and not anyone else.

[inheritance]

[Surprise flickers in his expression before the smile returns, this time more thoughtful. He brings a hand up to cup at his chin.]

That's the difficult part. It's still hard to say why we were taken here. Most of the worlds I've heard of don't have anything particularly in common, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the people that were chosen from each world either. That's without taking the numbers into consideration, either.

It's easy to speculate, but until we have more information, it's hard to put together an accurate pattern.

[Nyx raises an eyebrow.]

Sounds like something you've been thinking about all month. [Despite everything that's been happening, too.] Think it's related to whatever's wrong with the colour in this world?

[inheritance]

I-it's sort of my thing. [He laughs a little, rubbing at his neck.] I...think a lot. Sometimes I can't turn it off.

It's possible. Though we still have no idea what caused the color to disappear like this, some of us have been wondering if the user #FFFFFF brought us here to help. That's...just a guess, though.

[sirnyxalot]

[Izuku looks sheepish, as if a hobby like that is something awkward or embarrassing. Nyx wouldn't be surprised if people flock to him for it. He would know. Information gathering is key to keeping people like him alive.]

A reasonable enough guess. After that first "quest" some colour came back. Good enough of a lead to follow at any rate. I'll make note of anything I find out and pass it your way. I wanna make sure everything we discover is compiled so we don't miss any details.

[inheritance]

[Izuku looks stunned by his response.]

R-really? You would?

[He's been ridiculed for his habits for so long that it still surprises him when people take him seriously because of it.]

Of course. If it's your thing then I want to make sure you have as much information as I can give you. Can't do it all myself, can I?

[inheritance]

Y-yeah, I guess not. [Izuku mulls that over, then smiles at Nyx brightly.]

In that case... please let me know if you find out anything! It's always a good idea to hear more opinions when there's not a lot to work with anyway.

[sirnyxalot]

I'll be sure to.

[He glances back at Izuku's name tag for a moment, committing his forum code to memory.]

In other news, I hope we get something accomplished today. It's bad timing that these shadow things are acting up the same week we've planned the meeting. We'll have to stay alert.

[inheritance]

[Izuku does the same, making sure he has Nyx's code memorized for later.]

I hope so, too. There's a lot that can should be discussed, and now that our font colors are changed, meeting in person is easier for some people.

[He glances at his shadow warily.] It's strange that they've started acting up now, when they've been normal before this.

[sirnyxalot]

They're getting more aggressive as the week progresses, just like the furniture did. I've already seen a couple injuries that could have been serious if not treated immediately. I can only assume it's going to get worse before it gets better.

[inheritance]

[Izuku nods, looking worried.]

It wouldn't be as bad if they were only active during the night, but they don't seem bothered by daylight either.

[sirnyxalot]

Sudden flashes of light seem to stun them, though. I attacked mine last time it tried to get me and that kept it still for awhile.

[inheritance]

I noticed that!

One of my friends can use fire... his power can keep the shadows from attacking for a little while, but they always end up coming back later.

[sirnyxalot]

Lightning is a little more effective, I've found, but not by much. Things still go missing, and I've had to hide my kukri to keep it from trying to stab me in the back with them.

[It still has been making sleep a difficult thing to obtain.]

[inheritance]

Lightning? [Izuku echoes that word, immediately perking up.]

You can use the elements, Ulric-san?

[sirnyxalot]

Yeah, call it a natural aptitude.

[He holds out both hands, absentmindedly casting. Fire flickers to life in one, no bigger than his palm, and electricity begins to crackle in the other, jumping between his fingers and arcing over his skin.]

It's what helps me fight for my city.

[There's a touch of grief in his expression, looking at his hands as if seeing something else. He's lost a lot before coming here.]

[inheritance]

Oh...two elements! [He watches them both with fascination for a moment.] My friend has two, too, except his second one is ice, not lightning.

[Despite his obvious enthusiasm at seeing Nyx's power, Izuku catches the look on his face. It's a familiar one, and Izuku doesn't like seeing it on someone who was so friendly to him.]

You don't...sound too happy about that, Ulric-san. [He says cautiously.]

[sirnyxalot]

[Realizing he's projecting, Nyx extinguishes the magic and grins sheepishly.]

No, I suppose I don't. [No need to get into the joys of war with a kid who isn't involved. It's over for him now anyway. Even if he were to go back home, he's certain the only thing that's waiting for him is death.]

At any rate, I can cast ice, too. It's more a collection of spells, some of them elemental. All of them useful in various ways. Just not against one's own shadow. Bet they never thought of that back home.

[inheritance]

[Unfortunately for Nyx, Izuku can be incredibly stubborn at times. Like right now, even forgoing the mention of more spells--for now, at least.]

You know...you don't need to hide it if something's wrong. [He says, looking slightly more worried than before. Though he has no idea yet what would've made him look so sad, Izuku's growing more determined to find out.]

[sirnyxalot]

[Damn. What a kid. Nyx can't help the incredulous grin as he shakes his head.]

It's nothing that matters here. Don't worry about it.

[He's far too accustomed to just keeping his shit to himself to cave so easily. He's spent too many years now being a pillar of support. He's supposed to be the one to have everything together and save the day.]

[inheritance]

[That only makes Izuku cock his head to the side, looking unconvinced.]

When you say "don't worry about it", that just feels like I should worry more. [He shakes his head, finally backing off just a little.] I won't make you talk if it makes you that uncomfortable, though.

[sirnyxalot]

[Nyx snorts, an ungraceful sound that does a remarkable job of easing whatever's left of his tension.]

Six, you sound like one of my best friends.

[He reaches out and rubs his hand over Izuku's hair fondly. His voice is brighter when he speaks again, teasingly.]

You're gonna be a menace, aren't you?
