Where are you now? Atlantis, under the sea... [Quests 50 and 51]
WHO: Rin Okumura and You!
WHERE: Harbor (Quest 50), Cafe (Quest 51)
WHEN: Various
WHAT: Quest 50 is kinda shady, but Rin figures there's at least one way to make it less so. Also, remembering people.
WARNINGS: NA
i : quest 50 | water toss
[Vigilant, observant residents might notice an odd sight about two days after the quests go up.
It seems that Rin is carrying a large load of crates out from the cafe and down to the harbor. Its almost impossible to see whats in the crates as he has them stacked in his arms, having no issue with the weight of whatever it is, but there is a delicious smell of something recently cooked coming from at least one of them.
Should one follow, or simply be in the area of the harbor to observe, they'll be privy to Rin setting the crates down on the dock, separating them and putting a roughly scrawled sign out to lean against one of them. In one crate there is a stack of stained, somewhat ratty but clean towels. In the other, the source of the delicious smells being some wrapped up food brought from the cafe.
And the sign?
"Harbor Toss
Free Food After
Any Color"
Look, the quest is suspect as hell, but Rin figures if he can get people to do it willingly with their consent then at the very least there will be a lot less people thrown in without warning. And he's one of the strongest people in Chroma, so hefting a bunch of bodies in to the water is something that he would barely break a sweat over.
Never mind that food is already free, but details. His ideas can't be 100% intelligent.]
b. quest 51 | i will remember you
[There's a new addition to the cafe, once again about three or so days after the quests went up.
Its a small altar, tucked in the corner of the dining area across from the stairs to the second floor. Its fairly rough and clearly put together from found items, but the idea and thought is there. A small cloth draped over a small end table that no longer has legs. A number of half-burned candles on a slightly cracked dish. Personal items, left behind by those no longer here. A small notebook missing about a third of its pages and stained, but usable as names have obviously been written inside. A lighter and a pen for those who wish to add to the memories.
At the beginning it is only items and names that Rin himself has added, but should anyone ask he'll greet them with a sad smile and a nod.]
Yeah, you can add to it.

Yeah, you can add to it.
After settling in and sleeping off what should have been death but wasn't
A year's worth of memories, just gone. It had only been a couple of hours, if that, but the loss lingers in his heart as the truth settles in with poisoned barbs: he could be taken back at any moment. He could lose everything without a warning, and not even know he's lost it.
Might as well take advantage of whatever time this accursed place is going to give him. The cafe is a good place to sit for a bit. He can relax and watch as residents wander in and out, Rahm curled possessively around his feet. A good place to feel at home.
And, apparently, a good place to learn that he's not the only one that disappeared this past month. After a time, Nyx notices several people visit the corner, and finally gets up to maneuver around his coeurl to check it out for himself.]

It wasn't until he came back out much later in the afternoon to see Nyx standing near the altar that he recalled what he had done for the quest, and that a certain name would very obviously be written down in somewhat scrawled handwriting.
He stood behind Nyx for a long moment of unsure silence, a towel in his hands but otherwise not moving.]
... I really did think you were gone.
no subject
I don’t blame you.
[What had been a moment for Nyx was longer here. He’s not sure how many days, exactly, but long enough, apparently. He’s....
His jaw tenses as he physically swallows down an unfamiliar rush of emotion, and he has to look up at the ceiling a moment to blink as his vision blurs.]
no subject
H-hey. You're back now, right?
[Chroma might not be the best place to be. Between the fairy tale nonsense and how many times they've nearly died it could be fairly stressful to live there, but the friends Rin had made were important to him.
He just wanted them to be happy for a little while before everything went to shit again.]
no subject
[His expression is fragile as he smiles, but it fades before it can reach his eyes.]
I...I was dying, Rin. I knew before that I’d die if I went home, but now it’s the real deal. I was right there at the end.
[He reaches out to trace the memorial book, distant.]
This would be the only thing I’d leave behind.
no subject
[Nope. Not having that. Not at all. Rin stomps in front of him, putting himself between the book and Nyx's hand. He grips at the man's wrist, gentle but firm.]
Your name in that book is way more than just my shitty handwritin'. That's all the memories you've given me! And anyone else you've helped here! I know for a fact I wasn't the only one who wanted to put your name there when we thought you were gone!
None of us are leavin' behind somethin' useless. You've taught me way too much for me to forget you or the things you've done for me. Don't you dare act like you haven't given anythin' to this town.
no subject
This is dumb, of course he’s going to leave something meaningful behind. Something other than a heroic deed no one will ever know. He has a family here.
Leaning forward abruptly, Nyx pulls Rin into a tight hug. This little shit’s probably going to learn all of Nyx’s worst habits.
He wants to be here to see it.]
no subject
He might learn all the worst habits, but he'll also learn all the best ones, too.]
I can't do shit about goin' home, but as long as I'm here I won't forget you.
no subject
[He ruffles Rin's hair as he pulls back, leaving his arm draped over his shoulders. Shifting his weight, Nyx reaches to look at the book itself, his fingers tracing the names inside.]
Guren's gone too?
no subject
Okuyasu, Ochako, Zelda... probably more I don't know about. The Defense Force is pretty up in the air right now. I'unno what's gonna happen there.
[A sad state of affairs, really. Life carries on in Chroma, but there's that lingering feeling that the next big event could very well catch them all unprepared.
Oh look, a distraction-- kitten. A kitten.
Ayame, the tawny little kitten with soft gray points and bright blue eyes comes hopping down the stairs, trilling happily when she sees Rin. He turns and tucks the towel in the pocket of his pants, bending down to pick her up carefully.]
Hey, Ayame-chan. You're gettin' bigger every day, huh?
no subject
They've done a lot of good work for this place.
[Then there's a kitten and Nyx quirks a smile at the deliberate distraction. Rahm 'rowls' at Ayame, but doesn't twitch from her position curled around his legs. Nyx reaches out to let Ayame sniff at his uninjured fingers.]
no subject
Yeah. I want to keep the force goin' but I wouldn't have a clue where to start with somethin' like that...
[Ayame sniffs at Nyx's hand, ignoring Rahm in favor of shoving her head in for some pets.]
Guess we're just gonna have to do our best to protect this place without it.
no subject
[Nyx rubs her fur affectionately.]
We're not going to let him down. It might be a bit of a looser definition, but people keep arriving and for better or worse this is where we have to make our stand. Everyone who's gone helped make this town what it is, and we can keep it thriving for the future. We will.
no subject
Rin started to say something, hesitated uncertainly before finally voicing his concern.]
Are... are you really gonna be up to anythin'?
no subject
Drautos's words were wrong, he knows that. He can accomplish plenty even without relying on the power aching under his skin, but going back home brought up those doubts like a disease.
Rin's right, he's going to be limited by his injuries. But he already knew that.]
I'll heal. I've bounced back from worse than this, and my right hand can still hold a blade. And... [He swallows.] if I have to figuratively take a desk job, I'll help coordinate from the sidelines.
no subject
You said it yourself. You were dead. You were a mess when you came back. I get not wantin' to sit on your ass, but...
no subject
[He pushes a smile and turns away from the table, gingerly stepping around Rahm who grumbles as she's nudged.]
Guess I'll have to rely on you, too. I won't be able to hunt for a little while.
no subject
Geez, you act like I gotta twist your arm to eat my food!
