ouch is one of the most intimate, romantic ways to be close to someone else. The Town knows this very well -- the Town wants everyone to be as close as possible. Perhaps that's why this bonding is so...aggressive. Because you're in for quite the shock on this otherwise peaceful day when you brush against the next person on your path. Maybe you're going out of your way to touch people. Maybe you've got a terrible urge to just see what's lurking in someone's heart. Maybe you trip over a conveniently placed rock -- whatever the cause, you're getting an up close and personal look into someone else's heart. Welcome to Awash's eighteenth event log, everyone! [Gonna just... skip over the not having a choice part for now, because he hates that, even if he understands on some level why it happened from Kaoru.]

None of us knew each other. I knew of her. [Information gleaned, of course, by reading the Chief's mind.]

And then we met and she was nothing like I expected at all. I did a judo throw on her the first time I met her, you know.

A-a judo throw?

[Staring at her like he's not sure if that's a joke but he's pretty sure it isn't.]

I was five! [It isn't a joke.... but she's going to try and defend her choices a little anyway though it's probably clear from the way she looks away that she feels more than a bit guilty and ashamed at the kind of child she'd been.]

...I was a different person back then.

I believe you. [He nods, hoping to placate her.] We all change a lot from when we were five.

[It's... still really funny to imagine tiny Shiho judo throwing tiny Kaoru.]

[She hadn't thought he'd just believe her like that. And he probably doesn't really, is her best guess but for now she'll relax and take it.]

Exactly. We grow and learn that being so overtly violent doesn't work in every situation. And... we're friends now so I'd never to that to her. [Though she definitely still has the ability to execute a perfect judo throw on Kaoru even now.]

Sometimes your friends are the perfect people to do a judo throw to.

[He's joking! Really!]

But I'm sure she trusts you not to.

....well.... sometimes. [They're also good candidates for a thorough dowsing with a water gun too.]

And she knows I would never do that to her now.

[He's seen how they are together, and how Kaoru acts around her friends anyway.]

[She still pouts at that.]

So that's the kind of friend you are, huh.

[He tugs at his bangs.]

You're lucky we like you. [Yes, "we". Because it's not just Kaoru that thinks he's a good friend at this point.]

Monsters too, occasionally, but Shiho is getting better and better at truly loving who and what she is.]
