Who told you so, dilly dilly, Who told you so? ‘Twas my own heart, dilly dilly, That told me so.
ouch is one of the most intimate, romantic ways to be close to someone else. The Town knows this very well -- the Town wants everyone to be as close as possible.
Perhaps that's why this bonding is so...aggressive.
Because you're in for quite the shock on this otherwise peaceful day when you brush against the next person on your path.
Maybe you're going out of your way to touch people. Maybe you've got a terrible urge to just see what's lurking in someone's heart. Maybe you trip over a conveniently placed rock -- whatever the cause, you're getting an up close and personal look into someone else's heart.

Hmph. [She could take them! Or she could at least inconvenience them and make them sorry.]
Can you do that, though? [Because believing is good and all, but she's always thought that action spoke louder than wishes. If you had time to wish for something, you might as well take matters into your own hands.]

I...had the strength to back then, I suppose. But one sword can only reach so far, after all, and--in the end, winning on the battlefield wasn't enough to save the country. [That shrine's going up in flames now....]
I had strength, but only the strength of a god of war. Despite how hard I tried, I was unable to help with the rest.
Well, obviously. You have to think about finance and politics too. If winning a war was all it took then wouldn't everything be way more peaceful? Asking you to be able to do all the things they want without trying themselves is just unreasonable.
[The shrine gets a flat look from her.]
And it's not peaceful now anyway. Come on, let's go find some water and put that out. Honestly, don't they know that setting random fires is dangerous? It could spread and then the whole place will go up in flames.
[...She's so pragmatic....somehow he really appreciates that right now. He even manages a little laugh, when she starts complaining about fire safety.]
I wouldn't worry about that - this is only a memory, after all. And if memory serves, the fires never got so bad that the city would be in danger...or any more danger than it already was, at least. [Ha.]
...I suppose you're right though...it's silly to think I'm entirely to blame for everything. [Though he can't bring himself to blame anyone else....at least it's a step?]
[She got him to laugh and at the end of the day, that's really all that matters. Sometimes she knows people need normalcy, need to know that everything will be fine and someone is on their side, no matter what.]
...So you want stuff on fire in your heart? [But that's mostly to tease him than anything. If he feels like the fires will be fine, then she'll trust him.]
And it is silly. But people are mostly silly anyway. Don't let it get to you too much. If you try and they don't appreciate it, it's because they're too caught up in themselves to notice anything or anyone else.
I wouldn't say that, exactly... [He'd rather his heart be peaceful??
He sighs though, at the rest.]
...I can't bring myself to censure their behavior or beliefs. And there's no way to turn back what's already happened. But...in the end, they're only human. So I suppose all I can do is move on, and put faith in the future.
[Being willing to move on at all--maybe that's a step in the right direction. It's enough for them to find themselves transported back to the real world, at least.]
I’m kidding. [But so far his heart seems far from peaceful.
At least they do make it out, and the sudden change from brightly coloured city to drab (and sometimes clashing) Chroma is a bit of a jolt for Shiho.]
...But I’m glad you can move on. Even if the past can’t be changed, as long as you grow from it and learn from it, then it’s enough. Your past doesn’t have to define who you become. You’ll be fine.
[And if not, Shiho is here to make sure that he is.]
