Who told you so, dilly dilly, Who told you so? ‘Twas my own heart, dilly dilly, That told me so.
ouch is one of the most intimate, romantic ways to be close to someone else. The Town knows this very well -- the Town wants everyone to be as close as possible.
Perhaps that's why this bonding is so...aggressive.
Because you're in for quite the shock on this otherwise peaceful day when you brush against the next person on your path.
Maybe you're going out of your way to touch people. Maybe you've got a terrible urge to just see what's lurking in someone's heart. Maybe you trip over a conveniently placed rock -- whatever the cause, you're getting an up close and personal look into someone else's heart.

Well...I wouldn't say treachery exactly. "Failure" would be more accurate. [He failed their trust...does that still count as betrayal? Maybe it does.]
Really, it was a combination of things that led the kingdom to fall--though it's been so many years now, it's rather hard to remember the exact details of it. Suffice it to say I didn't help matters much.
[ He feels a warm surge of compassion for Xie Lian at that reply. How familiar—how very familiar this all is indeed. It almost makes him afraid of going outside now because of what it might reveal to him, after knowing all this.
And yet…at least one of them has to move on today. ]
I am sorry. I won’t press you any further. Indeed, this world seems a bitter enough memory when taken in such a light.
It was...a long time ago. Really, I suppose I should be long over it by now.
[And yet here they are, in the ghost of a long-dead city, surrounded by regrets.]
I was unable to save this kingdom - I couldn't protect my family, or stop the wars that followed. I don't think I've ever actually been much of a real help to anyone, as a god.
Xie Lian. [ He reaches out to place a firm hand on the other’s shoulder, frowning with concern. ]
Far be it for a wretch such as me to say this, but…there is hope. [ Thanks, Shizun, et al. ] That is…I know well the pain that you bear, and I will not let you carry it alone.
[He knows? Does he really? But his intentions are clear enough; Xie Lian find himself losing strength under the other man's concern.]
...I can't remember the last time anyone offered that. [So long alone, so long without help or friends or family--the dark room fades away, and soon enough they're standing in the real world again.]
[ Save for the sudden flood of light now that their empty little hideaway has vanished, Tristan hasn’t really noticed much of the world changing around them. ]
There is no need to thank me. You have made me feel just a little more alive and whole. You have also given some color to this town, though you knew it not. I am simply returning the favor.

Their downfall was the result of treachery then? [ Oof. That hits a little too close to home. ]
