Who told you so, dilly dilly, Who told you so? ‘Twas my own heart, dilly dilly, That told me so.
ouch is one of the most intimate, romantic ways to be close to someone else. The Town knows this very well -- the Town wants everyone to be as close as possible.
Perhaps that's why this bonding is so...aggressive.
Because you're in for quite the shock on this otherwise peaceful day when you brush against the next person on your path.
Maybe you're going out of your way to touch people. Maybe you've got a terrible urge to just see what's lurking in someone's heart. Maybe you trip over a conveniently placed rock -- whatever the cause, you're getting an up close and personal look into someone else's heart.

If there are any questions, please ask them here. Thank you!
I can strike them down, yes. [ Would outright stating that he can slay them be too much? He already senses the tension in her, and while he doesn’t mind being her punching bag, well…
There’s a risk to her here, if he kills these things now. He might not know much about the rules that govern this world, but he does have a little bit of insight into a maiden’s heart. ]
[ Turning more fully to their opponents, he addresses them thus: ]
And to you who have fallen in service of this noble lady, say your farewells now, for I shall swiftly send you into the underworld.
[ And with that, the slaughter begins as he plays his harp, solemnly singing a sorrowful hymn as if he were at Chroma’s church, while his harp fires invisible arrows into the hearts of the monsters shambling closest to them. ]
[Just when she thinks Chroma can't surprise her anymore - what in all fresh hells is this?
She gasps in surprise, taking a step back, but make no mistake, she is grateful. The strikes are powerful enough to knock the monsters down - which begin dissolving into purple mist.
Only that makes her turn away with a whimper - that the dead cannot even have a dignified end.]
There is no need, my lady. [ He can hear the distress in her voice well enough. There is no victory here. He’d slain innocents yet again, and willingly at that.
He turns to her then, feeling a profound sorrow deep in his heart for this stalwart woman whom he’d seen at her most vulnerable and who had seen him at his most vulnerable in turn. He wonders if they’ll ever meet in happier times again, like when Tonbokiri had brought him over to visit. ]
I have killed your comrades, after all. [ The blame lies with me. ] And now I wish to take you elsewhere, and deprive you of even the small comfort of mourning them.
[ It’s disconcerting to find the world around them shift once more to the familiar skies above Chroma. He feels a weight upon him as she hurls imprecations upon the town. Whatever that undead world was, he knows that he wasn’t meant to see it at all. ]
I am sorry. [ For what? ] I know that I am hardly any comfort to you now, my lady, but it pains me to see you thus.
Indeed, however… [ He frowns, deeply distressed by her words as he moves closer to her, leaning down to offer a section of his cape for her in lieu of a handkerchief. More quietly, he adds: ]
Holding in your grief will hurt you more, in the end.
I— [ To be complimented by a woman is nothing new, though it feels wonderful every time it happens, anyway. This moment is no different, even if he can’t quite shake off the memory of those Risen. ]
Lady Maribelle, it is but my duty to defend the beautiful and radiant. And yet…I shall cherish your sentiments regardless.

Though you will not find it pleasant, I imagine.

... Do what you must. They... they be my fallen comrades, but... these things will not hesitate to harm us.
[don't cry don't cry don't you dare cry in front of anyone!]
I can't... do anything for them, now.

He readies his harp, gliding his fingers along the strings, the music disconcertingly melodious within the chaos surrounding them. ]
Then heed only my voice, my lady, for I shall sing a requiem for their passing.

[It just hurts to be reminded, that's all.
But perhaps this small comfort is what was needed - the world around them begins to fade, and Chroma's sky appears above.]
... Damn this place... Damn this place! What is the bloody point!

... Forgive me. Such actions are most unbecoming... and will do us little good.

[Another sniffle, and she reluctantly takes some of the cape to wipe away her tears.]
... Such is... the life of a soldier. It is my duty to fight my enemies, and to heal my allies... and... sometimes, I fail. I am only human.
[Is she telling him that, or is she trying to reassure herself?]

And it is only human to remember them. [ Though he knows even saying this won’t help. He knows full well what it’s like to fail to save everyone. ]
Yes…at times keeping their memory alive is the only thing we can do.

... I owe you many thanks, Archer.

I am deeply grateful for your regard, my lady, but I have not done anything worthy of such.
