Who told you so, dilly dilly, Who told you so? ‘Twas my own heart, dilly dilly, That told me so.
ouch is one of the most intimate, romantic ways to be close to someone else. The Town knows this very well -- the Town wants everyone to be as close as possible.
Perhaps that's why this bonding is so...aggressive.
Because you're in for quite the shock on this otherwise peaceful day when you brush against the next person on your path.
Maybe you're going out of your way to touch people. Maybe you've got a terrible urge to just see what's lurking in someone's heart. Maybe you trip over a conveniently placed rock -- whatever the cause, you're getting an up close and personal look into someone else's heart.

[ After a moment, Kisa sinks down, glancing around inquisitively. Yeah... this house is pretty much got Damian written all over it. Simple, yes, but incredibly organized-- and just seeing it makes her smile. Organized, full of necessities, and housing animals. ]
[As hilarious as it seems, Titus takes the bed. The dog is twice as big as it is, long and spindly legs hanging over the edge and head over the end. Ridiculous. Pennyworth takes up residence on the table as expected, high enough to see and be seen, by the light source, and level with higher intelligence.]
Huh? Oh... It’s nothing great. It’s enough to sleep and do some things. I spend most of my time outside. Unless there’s a storm.
[He takes the seat on the opposite side of her as another ring of thunder peels across the sky, shaking the house. If it isn’t over them, it’s close. The rain hasn’t started just yet. The lightning mostly unseen without windows can sometimes be spotted beneath the line of the door.]
You came on the worst day. With a storm. I can’t even show you the waterfall or anything. Jon is probably hiding too. I hope he’s okay...
Sorry, [ she says automatically, as though Kisa had any semblance of control over hanging out in Damian's heart and what the weather in said heart would be doing. Which, obviously, she doesn't, but it's instinctive at this point. ]
But I'm sure he's okay... and you can show me the waterfall some other time. Like this, I still get to stay with you.
[They could have fried so many eggs on his face, honestly. It goes red again, though not quite as badly as the other times.]
Yeah. He's pretty strong, so... I think he'll be okay. [Not smart, however... RIP.] I have some books in a drawer if you want one. I don't have anything fun in here since I don't stay long. Sorry.
[He pauses and glances up when the wind snaps by rather roughly, quaking the house around them. Titus lifts his head and whines softly.] It's okay, boy. [To Kisa:] There's some candy in the jars, too.
A few times... when I was in the hospital for a little while. [ Thanks, Akito. ]
And when... no one at school would talk to me. They just laughed if I tried talking... so I stopped, eventually. It just... got easier to stop trying at all, even when it came to finding company.
[Damian looks worriedly shocked, but then typically and hilariously angry. It's like a little chihuahua being mad, and not a violent anger. He's mad on her behalf.]
What they did was mean and stupid. I'm glad you can talk again. I like hearing your voice. It reminds me... people still want to talk to me, too.
Heh heh. [Damian gives a kind of beaming grin, self satisfied for once not about him, but someone being rallier by him.] You're already braver. You started talking again, right? And you came here! Through the cave. It's pretty dangerous.
[The next clap of thunder is loud, and Damian looks considerably shocked, shoulders hunched. The thunder brings with it the heavy downpour of a storm. Titus shifts on the bed and whines again. Pennyworth has hilariously disappeared--probably under the bed.]
[Though big and regal and intimidating, Titus definitely soaks up the comforting attention. Damian keeps his eyes on the edges of the little house for a while, watchful. The lightning blooms in cracks and beneath the door periodically, followed soon by loud cracks of rumbling thundee.]
It was still brave. Even if you were scared, you tried anyway. Being brave... means you keep going especially when you’re really scared.
[Another flush creeps back into his face despite the storm going on outside. He clears his throat in a way that sounds almost like a cough.]
You can always be with me. Just like everyone else. [He glances down, back up, and then pokes over his heart.] Right here. [The hand wavers during another sharp crack of thunder. The lantern winks, and Titus whines softly.
Damian finally climbs up and moves over to join them on the edge of the bed, reaching out to give Titus some rubs.]
I'm glad you can. I think the storm would be a lot more scary if I didn't have anyone.
[Damian actually smiles at this. It's genuine, but not something ever really seen on his "normal" face very often. Something boyish and shy, something happy.] Okay. I believe you. [He leans in against Titus as Pennyworth creeps, like liquid, up onto the bed to ball up in the midst of all of them.
There's another rattling, loud crack of thunder, the sound of wind beating relentlessly against the wood of the house. But Damian doesn't seem to even notice it at all.]
I'm glad we met. I like you a lot, and... I would be sad if you left. Don't forget, okay?
[ Because she's the flushed one now, even as she tips her chin up to listen more intently to the storm. Or maybe that's exactly why she's listening so carefully. ]
Even if you tell me to... I won't ever forget that. Because... I'm the same.

This is... really just like you.

[ Your poor, sad, whining dog... ]
When I was alone, I used to just sit and stare at my hands, so this isn't boring.
[ oh my god, Kisa. ]

He'll be okay. He's a big baby. [Damian gives Titus a glance. And hogging the bed apparently. When he looks back at Kisa, he is visibly stunned.]
When you were alone? When?

[he's gonna fucking die when he gets back]

[ It's fine, and she doesn't seem to want to linger on it, instead offering him a softer look. ]
... Thank you, though. I really like talking to you, Damian. It makes me feel a lot braver.

Only because I was trying to follow you... I was really scared I wouldn't be able to find you if I stayed behind.

You'r always saying nice things about me, you know... I think half of why I can do things is because it means I can still be with you if I do.
[ Kisa is also braver around teeny Damian than Bigger Damian. ]

[ please stop flustering her by telling her she's in your heart, tiny Damian. ]
my typo yikes
But I'm glad you're here more.

[ She gestures to herself. ]
I promise... I'll be here.
