Who told you so, dilly dilly, Who told you so? ‘Twas my own heart, dilly dilly, That told me so.
ouch is one of the most intimate, romantic ways to be close to someone else. The Town knows this very well -- the Town wants everyone to be as close as possible.
Perhaps that's why this bonding is so...aggressive.
Because you're in for quite the shock on this otherwise peaceful day when you brush against the next person on your path.
Maybe you're going out of your way to touch people. Maybe you've got a terrible urge to just see what's lurking in someone's heart. Maybe you trip over a conveniently placed rock -- whatever the cause, you're getting an up close and personal look into someone else's heart.

[Prompto springs up with the force of it, but his hand stays rooted to Grey Ignis's arm like it's attached. He stares down at him, lips pressed firmly together.]
Absolutely not.
[Trying to get him to look up, Prompto tugs his arm a bit.]
You're our friend, Ignis. You're--my friend. [Has he ever dared say that before, make a claim outside the comfortable reach of Noct's shadow? Prompto takes a steadying breath and keeps on.] Not just part of you. You can't be friends with just part of someone, it's an all-or-nothing deal. Take it from me. I mean... that's what you guys taught me, that the person you wanted with you was the real me all along. And with you--I, I wouldn't want it any other way, anyway.
[It doesn't matter how well Prompto can read any particular color Ignis, it doesn't matter which ones have to give way based on the needs of the situation. Iggy is Iggy is Iggy, and Iggy is the best.]
And I'm not saying that to cheer you up, because I don't want you to disappear. I'm just saying it because it's true. You're... you're one of us.
[Prompto doesn't let go, not even to offer a friendly bump of knuckles against Ignis's chest or a shoulder clasp. Letting go is the last thing he ever wants to do to this lonely side of Ignis.]
[Gray looks up a little, not technically smiling, but with an expression that suggests a sort of quiet, wrung-out contentment nevertheless. And as he does, Blue starts to drift closer, his attention caught by the interaction between Prompto and Gray, and drawn in toward it.]
If you'd thought that all I am is just...sadness...then it would've been clear you didn't really understand me at all. There's much more to me than just that.
[His voice turns soft.]
The two of us together achieve empathy. Blue and I. If I weren't a part of them...what they all make without me would be incomplete. I'm needed, too. Sometimes it's good, even, that there is me. Too much of Yellow and we start to think we're little more than a machine. But so long as I'm still a part of us, we can't be anything but human.
[Prompto stares long and intently at Grey, then looks at Blue again, too. Blue is nice, and caring, and talks about what Prompto and Noct like and think and do. Grey is sad, but not just sad; together, the two of them make...]
[Says Gray, who seems to understand this best, which probably says something further about precisely what sort of facet he embodies and has purview over.
Still working in tandem, Blue pipes up: ]
I told you, didn't I, that Yellow is the one you can't read very well?
[His brain catches up to his mouth a second later, and he starts to make a face; red's got its classic associations, and for a Lucian in the time of Niflheim's Magitek Empire, more modern unpleasantness to contend with.]
Red has a...singular purpose. One that overrides most anything else. Do you recall, during our, ah..."bust-a-base" —
[Only Blue could be so willing to go along with Prompto's shenanigans.]
— our plan to take captive and interrogate one of the Niflheim generals? "Targeting metal men will yield little in the way of reconnaissance, but bones bend easily"?
[Gray laughs softly again, but this time with far less mirth in it.]
[Red is...Certainly Something, All Right™. Even the other parts of Ignis's own heart think so.
It's Gray who continues on with the explanation, though.]
Purple is — not the youngest. But the newest. The most recent. Pink is the oldest of us, but also the youngest; Purple is recent because he, likewise, has something of a...niche purpose.
[There is, in Ignis's heart, a lot of power in the words for Noct. Enough so that Gray almost looks upbeat as he rises from his chair and heads for the place in the penumbras of the setting that marks his own door back from whence he came. And with his departure, Galdin Quay wobbles and shifts again, transitioning into —
...a beautiful starry night in the open country, the night sky overhead littered with shooting stars. And there, in the midst of it, is Purple Ignis, warmed by the presence of Blue still lingering nearby.]
[Prompto's busy gasping and taking a photo of that unfathomably gorgeous sky above them, mouth open in joy and disbelief as he aims his camera at the star shower, but then he turns it to Purple and snaps a picture of him, too, and finally lowers the lens.]
Flirtnis.
[He's half breathless from the view and half wiggling with giddy delight, imagining Iggy with all the over-the-top mannerisms of Gladio at his worst. He lopes over excitedly.]
Trust me, that's better than Purpnis. Or Ignurple.
Oh, come now, you needn't be so eager. It's still just me.
[But Purple is smiling easily — far moreso than Ignis ever tends to — and there's a jaunty little cock to his hips as he shifts his weight into a casual stance, like he's well aware of all his best attributes and how to call attention to them effortlessly.]
You're sure those are just for Noct? None for yourself?
[A different Ignis would've phrased that differently — "picked it up by osmosis", or somesuch — but this is Purple Ignis, afraid of no double entendre.]
But no, it's mostly Noct's influence. I'm —
[He pauses, musing, and then smiles a little.]
— the opposite of Yellow. It helps me remember what he wants me to be — his equal, not his advisor.
I'm surprised you think me the type to kiss and tell.
[And up go his eyebrows, amused.]
I meant that Noct is the one who influenced my...existence? Defined it, in a number of ways. But you'd know all about that, too, wouldn't you, Prompto?
I'd know because I... kissed Noct that one time in the ice castle? I dunno, dude, it was--it was kind of nice at the end, but not, like, life-changing like for you, probs.
...Influential, Prompto. You know what it's like to have him change your life, just by existing in it.
[And because this is Purple, he actually reaches out and ruffles Prompto's hair with one hand, unafraid of physical contact and more than willing to indulge in it.]
[Purple's easy affection surprises Prompto even as he rises up into it, listing after his hand like the family dog chasing pats. He catches himself, though, and fiddles with his bangs instead, sheepishly guiding them back into place.]
...You know about that, huh? Haha. No denying it, I guess. Noct's a pretty powerful force on all of us.
no subject
[After a moment of studying Grey Ignis over his shoulder, Prompto lays a hand on his arm.]
I'm sorry, Iggy.
no subject
[He doesn't look up, and his voice is quiet, and it seems like an honest question.]
Better, if I weren't there at all?
no subject

Are you, like... feelings? In general?
no subject
[Says Gray, who seems to understand this best, which probably says something further about precisely what sort of facet he embodies and has purview over.
Still working in tandem, Blue pipes up: ]
I told you, didn't I, that Yellow is the one you can't read very well?
[Gray hums softly.]
Yellow is the reason we have our job at all.
no subject
[He looks Blue up and down, a finger of his free hand curled before his lips, then snaps his fingers and nods grandly to himself.]
Mama Ignis! And Fun Ignis? Pun Ignis, definitely.
no subject
[Blue says, indulgently, and Gray actually chuckles under his breath.]
We all have our roles. We all work together. It's rare for any one of us to work alone — Red sometimes does. But that's different.

That's Red for you.
no subject
I remember one time in the arcade, too.
[He rubs his arm, then physically shakes the memory off like a chocobo shedding water.]
Okay, so that's Red. Hey, what about green? Is there a green Iggy? Oh, or purple? You love purple, right?
no subject
[Red is...Certainly Something, All Right™. Even the other parts of Ignis's own heart think so.

He's a flirt.
no subject
Oh. Em. Gee.
[This is the BEST HEARTVENTURE EVER!]
Iggies, please, I don't really want either of you to go, but I gotta. I gotta meet Flirty Purple Ignis. I gotta see him.
[He pauses, then lifts his camera again, grinning hopefully.]
For Noct?

no subject
Of course they're for Noct! [Ahem hem, again.] You guys are together, I wouldn't get between you like that.
[He lets his camera hang from its strap and lifts both his fists, though, excited again.]
That was kind of a Gladio thing to say, though. Am I right, did you learn all your flirting from Master Amicitia?
no subject
[A different Ignis would've phrased that differently — "picked it up by osmosis", or somesuch — but this is Purple Ignis, afraid of no double entendre.]

So... if all things were equal, is this what you'd be like? Party on the outside and the inside?

I meant that Noct is the one who influenced my...existence? Defined it, in a number of ways. But you'd know all about that, too, wouldn't you, Prompto?

[The last one? Was not an innuendo. This one? Absolutely an innuendo. Thanks, Purple Ignis.]
Now. Weren't you looking for the others? Or was that all just a ruse to get to spend time with me?
(no subject)
