--> Shouto, Yuuya, & Keith
And ambiance? Perhaps? Keith isn't sure. He's not exactly thrilled at the idea of dancing to this #FFFFFF's tune, but if the reward really will reveal the words missing from the pages in the books that Dave and he found... then maybe it's worth it. This time. At least it doesn't venturing back into the woods yet again.
Once everything is prepped, he settles down to wait for Yuuya and Shouto.]

So we really are having the campfire.
[He was wondering if that was just something that people said. But he'll put his right hand in the wood and light it right up. No big deal or anything.]
no subject
Of course we're having a campfire! Ah, look, and it even has a natural glow to it! [since Shouto made it, orange and red flicker on the grayscale ground around them. It's both natural and unnatural in a way he can appreciate.]
I considered looking for marshmallows but who wants to take the gamble on whether or not they'd actually have taste? This is good enough for now.
[He settles down by the fire and ruffles his feathers ever so slightly. If there was any doubt in Shouto's description of him as a large, talking pigeon, well... here he is. A large, talking pigeon.]
no subject
[Like, legitimately nice. Warm and the soft glow is reassuring. Keith drops to a seat, cross-legged, hands on either knee as he looks between Shouto and. Yup. That's a pigeon. Why not. He's met stranger aliens right?
Right. Let's go with that.]
So... how do we start this?
no subject
... We're supposed to share stories, I guess? Something like that.
You want a recent story or an old one?
no subject
Whichever one's juiciest! [he chimes in, helpfully]
Or, rather, it should be an interesting story, shouldn't it? We might as well entertain ourselves while accomplishing whatever Mr. or Ms. Hashtag-Eff wants from us.
no subject
I think whatever you feel like telling should be fine. I hope.
[...Keith has no idea where to even start on his turn, so he really appreciates Shouto starting it off. That will hopefully make it easier for him to sort it out in his head anyway.]
...though I guess an interesting one is probably best. To listen to and to tell. Right?
no subject
His voice goes softer and stays that way. ]
When I was growing up I rejected half of my power. My fire. It was too much like someone I hated so I wanted nothing to do with it.
This year I told somebody all of the reasons I didn't want to use it. I took him everything. About how my father pushed me and how it drove my mother to the breaking point.
That guy was a classmate. We were scheduled to fight each other during the tournament. I wanted to tell him why I wasn't going to use my fire during our fight.
But instead of just accepting that he kept pushing me to use it. For the first time in years he made me realize that this fire was my power.
It didn't matter where it came from it was mine.
Even though he wanted to win just as much as I did he couldn't stop himself from helping me too. He's a real hero. I'm... grateful to have him in my life.
no subject
You know, just the fact you can make that fire out of nowhere is plenty interesting to me... [But that's just how it was. That was something normal in his world as much as being a giant pigeon was normal in his. So, rather than something about the fire itself (mundane, to him) it was an individual that was interesting. It's not like he was feeling like poking and prodding a whole other story out of him.]
Anyways, I get it. A hero. [He doesn't Get It in the sense of U.A. and the profession, but he gets it.] I suppose I've got someone like that I could talk about. He'd be very grumpy to hear it, though!
no subject
[So Keith is listening, entirely interested in the story. It feels familiar to him, even if the details are different. The general meaning of it, yeah. He get that.
Almost a smile, and he nods.]
That means a lot, right? When you find someone who helps you be a better version of yourself.
[Fighting off the homesickness, Keith turns to Yuuya.]
I guess it sounds like you're ready for your turn then?
no subject
Yeah... It's good to meet people like that.
[ Now his features go back to their usual stoic look. ]
The floor is yours.

When I was rather young, I wasn't as Sexy and Suave as I am today. I was a little lost, let's say. Too much in front of me to do and not an idea of where to start. I got paired up with this older bird to do some specific work... and, well, he was rather intimidating looking to my young, chick self! I spent most of our first months working together constantly expecting him to catch me doing something wrong or chide me for slacking off. [He wasn't, of course, he was working his hardest. It's normal to feel like one's hardest isn't enough, though, especially in a dangerous line of work. And it certainly matches how he acts here a lot more to say he was slacking off. He's sure the people he's met here could picture it like that.]
... I can't remember him ever yelling at me, though. Correcting me? Tons of times! Telling me to be a little more serious? Of course! ... but he never had to raise his voice to do it, you know?
He truly is Bright and Massive. Not showy [like himself], that's just how it was... like how you wouldn't call the sun showy, just for doing its job. [And even if watching after Yuuya was just his job, he was grateful.]
no subject
[Well. If Keith weren't missing Shiro after the first story (he was) he is now (he is, even more). Keith nods his agreement at what Yuuya has to say though.]
Yeah. It sounds like he was really a mentor for you.
[That's really good, yeah. And now that makes it Keith's turn, and he finds himself hesitating. He shouldn't, but he's not actually good at sharing... especially with what their stories have brought to mind for his own contribution.] I guess that makes it my go, huh?
[Damn it. A flaw in the plan. But no okay he can do this.]

--> Lupin, Yusuke, & Keith
...we're actaully going harpy hunting.
[He pipes up out of the blue, looking from Yusuke to Lupin and back. They have just started out, but still, that's stating the absolute obvious. Harpies.]
no subject
[ it is confusing, and, frankly, Lupin doesn't like being out here, but he's confident in his ability to find his way back and stay on his toes. Besides, he has a goal in mind. He's keeping pace with a casual expression, cane tucked under one arm, but there's a bit of tension in his shoulders that says he's ready for things to go wrong at any moment. ]
What do you think these harpies look like? Legends say they're awful hags with bird wings - they shouldn't be too hard to find if that's true, I guess.
no subject
The difficulty will be getting to them. If they're bird-like, they'll presumably be up high.
[But really did you just clue in to how weird this is Keith... nbd... it's just another thing to Yusuke. Though he does pause, tilting his head slightly to one side.]
I suppose it is somewhat strange we have to hunt them.
no subject
[Hey wow. His disbelief exists in a state of permanent suspension at this point in time, okay? So yeah it's just kind of hitting him that they're hunting down harpies like it's a totally normal thing to do.]
It really is. I mean... what if they're sentient?
[So Keith is all for fighting. He is. It's his strongest suit. But.] ...if they're hostile, I have no problem fighting like hell. But what if we're the aggressors entirely? If they aren't just animals, it's not really right to just attack, is it? If they're not a threat?
no subject
Don't worry. If I recall, the quest specifics were to hunt them - it didn't say to hurt or kill them anywhere. I'm not fond of violence, myself.
[ he's hoping they can just capture them and bring them back to camp. Maybe they can release them afterwards. If they're sapient beings, he'll feel pretty sorry about the whole thing.
also he totally recognizes you Yusuke. But he's acting like he doesn't, and pretty convincingly, although he probably gave him a wink on the sly when they first met up. He would never rat out a fellow thief without good reason! ]
no subject
We will find out when we encounter them if they're hostile or not.
There's no saying we have to complete the quest either, if doing so is not something we morally can.
[And morals and justice and shit is important.]
no subject
[Keith nods. If they can find them anyway. So it'll be a game time decision how to proceed? Keith is pretty used to that too, actually, so he can definitely roll with it.
Moral and justice and shit are definitely important.]
no subject
[ just throwing that out there... ]
no subject
Lupin don't call them out like this.]
If they are anything at all like regular birds, should they not be... high up? That is where I'd be if I were a half-bird creature who is likely carnivorous.
no subject
[Yeah wow okay. Keith came out to
have a good timehunt some harpies and he's honestly feeling so attacked right now. He's also looking more sheepish than he wants to admit.]
..Yeah. Yes. Thank you. Yusuke. High up. And they're probably too big for most trees, so... [Nailed it. They got this.]
no subject
Right, right. High up. I suppose we'll have to do a little bit of exploring to track them down, then. Large birds usually live on rocky outcrops, I believe...
no subject
[yeah no they got this lupin what are you talking about they planned this out real well]
