[It can't be worse than the boys' rooms, right? She stands in the doorway for a moment longer, waiting for Kaoru to grab an orange before heading over to the crate.]
Let's eat them in here. It's much comfier than the kitchen! [And just to prove that it's totally cool, she grabs an orange of her own and heads over to her desk chair. Make yourself comfortable, Kaoru! Ochako certainly is; watch her drop into her chair with a happy sigh, slinging her legs over one of the arms as she begins peeling her treat. It's gossip time.] So... Shiho is going to be the supervisor? Does she really think that they'll find anything down there? And she will be nice to him, won't she?
[Ochako likes Shiho just fine, but she did tease her rather unmercifully when they first met...]
no subject
I'm pretty sure she just wanted to be supervisor. She likes bossing people around. [Kaoru didn't think they'd find the exit either, but they might find something.
She laughs a bit.] Shiho is one of the kindest people I know, but she's terrible at showing it so she's not very good at being nice. [She's just peeling her orange as she thinks about it for a moment.] She likes to pretend its on purpose--she calls it gap moe. But the moment someone is genuinely nice to her she'll get all flustered!
[Her smile is fond. She can't help it, when they've been friends for so long.]
no subject
I'm glad! I like Okuyasu and I like Shiho, so I want them to be friends. Maybe I'll tell him to be extra nice to her. [She says this teasingly, of course, glancing back up at Kaoru as she flicks away the last piece of her peel.] But since you two are so close, then what does Shiho think of Kirishima?
[It's genuine curiosity!!]
no subject
She's super weak against that! [She can already imagine it. She giggles when she mentions Shiho and her opinion on Kirishima.]
Ah, she won't stop complaining about him! I bet she's holding a grudge because he saw her doing something embarrassing.
[She shrugged. That's just Shiho for you.] And you know, Ei-chan's the sort of straightforward person who wouldn't pretend he hadn't seen it. [She means this in the nicest way possible, but he really doesn't have much tact...it's both endearing but also a little bit funny.] But it's also that honesty of his that means Shiho probably couldn't really dislike him if she tried.
[She has absolutely no doubt that this is just a conversation about Shiho and Kirishima.]
Has he always been like that?
no subject
I think so! I only met him at the start of our school year, but I've never heard him lie about anything. He's just a really cheerful, fun friend to have! So if he did see Shiho do something, you're right—he'll never tell anyone about it.
[Kirishima: A Good Guy™!!]
He's a little obsessed with being manly, though. Has he told you about that yet? [She looks up from her orange long enough to flash Shiho a conspiratorial grin.] I wish that you could see his dorm room! It's kind of funny, but please don't tell him I said that. Everyone else picked on him enough...
[And Ochako was the one girl to stand up for him, because she's just that nice.]
no subject
He hasn't said it but it's obvious isn't it? Everything he thinks is positive is 'manly'. He called me that too, and I can't convince him that you shouldn't compliment a girl by calling her that...at least he didn't call my hair manly too.
[She winked as she pulled a piece from her orange.] Hey, what we say here stays between us.
[If Shiho found out Kaoru let someone else in on her secret she'd be in trouble! But a man's room is his castle, isn't it? Kaoru has always felt that how someone kept their room is their business...and it wasn't just because of her porn collection!]
no subject
If he called you that, then he must really think highly of you! Only his best friends are "manly." Everyone else is just cool, you know?
[Newsflash: Boys are D U M B. She pauses long enough to pop a piece of her orange in her mouth.]
Has he told you any stories about himself? I can definitely tell you if he exaggerated any parts of them.
[She totally won't, though. If he wants to tell a cute girl that he fought off twenty villains at once, then hey—she'll quietly support that. It's not lying if you keep your mouth shut...]
no subject
I'm not sure if he thinks highly of me or he just liked that I was willing to walk into a completely unknown situation.
[But despite her complaints she seems happy. They really hit it off, after all and he was quickly becoming an important friend.]
He's not really bragging much if that's what you're asking. [Just a lot about the sort of person he had been in middle school and how he hadn't wanted to be that person and what he's done to change himself. Which was much more impressive than fighting off twenty villains at once, really.] He did mention he got the second best score on the entrance exam. Which must be hard! I never took any entrance exam but I've seen my friends prepare for them and they seem intense!
[She may or may not still think the UA entrance exam is just written one. Being the sort of person who was very bad at studying she finds it very impressive that he did well on a test.]
no subject
He did get second place, didn't he? I was third, and Bakugou—that's his best friend—was first. It was tough! [She lets out an exaggerated little sigh, because my, oh my...] Everyone was so nervous when they send the first wave of robots out, but no one expected that huge one at the very end.
[No further explanation needed, or so she believes. Surely Kirishima broke down the entire thing? Talking about how many robots he punched is such a boy thing to do, and so she'll be moving right along.]
Did you not have to take an entrance exam for your school?
[Or does she not... go to school...]
no subject
[It actually wasn't complicated. It was just that she works for the government in secret and the school she was getting into had ties with Babel so she was guaranteed a spot.]
But can we get back to your entrance exam for a moment? [Because...Kirishima had actually told her nothing about the exams. And she's just scooting over to sit on the edge of her bed. She may be two seconds away from just hovering over just from how excited she was.] What do you mean there were robots? And a huge one too? What sort of exam was this?!
[Actually, why did she assume a hero school would have a regular exam, anyway?]
no subject
It wasn't our entire entrance exam. We had a normal test, too, but the practical part was more fun. [And stressful, but like she's going to say that.] They broke all of us up into smaller groups and put us in this model city, right? We were supposed to take out as many robots as we could in ten minutes. It's funny now, because we've fought so many different things, but those were the first robots we'd ever fought. They were kind of scary, even though they weren't that big.
[Well, she assumes that none of her peers fought any robots before then, but whatever! She takes another bite of her orange before continuing.]
The huge one came out at the end. It was taller than the buildings, and everyone tried to run away from it. I did, too, but my foot got stuck, and then—Deku knocked it out with one punch!
[Her voice sounded noticeably warm there, didn't it? And her smile definitely softened a bit. Hmm. That's... suspicious.]
no subject
And you got third? That's so awesome!
[It's strange to imagine a school entrance exam like that...but then, they came from very different worlds, weren't they? But as cool as fighting robots for your school entrance exam is, Kaoru's Female Intuition is sensing something even more interesting.]
Okay but who's Deku? Sounds like he did something even cooler than just beating a robot to me.
no subject
You've met Izuku, right? Izuku Midoriya? Deku is his hero name, so that's just what I always call him. [She casually skips right over the history of the name, because, like? That's a little personal?] What he did at the entrance exam, though... it was cool. We were all so focused on getting as many points as we could, but he was the only one that stopped to help someone else. That's when I knew that he'd become an amazing hero!
no subject
Ah, the one who organized the forest exploration. [He seemed like a nice person. It's not that she wasn't interested in the story behind the name, but it didn't feel like the time to ask.] He definitely sounds amazing!
[And then, because she is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.]
So, was it love at first sight?
no subject
L-Love? It's not—I mean, he's my friend, but—
[How convincing. She takes a deep breath, trying to steady herself.]
It's really not like that at all! I just... look up to him. He's so strong, and he's always giving it his all. I think that's great!
[Sure, Ochako. Sure.]
no subject
Mm-hm. Sure. [Sounded like she's not even slightly convinced.] It's possible to feel all that and also like him in that way, you know. It's not as if you stop wanting to be his friend or stop looking up to him just because you feel something else for him.
no subject
But don't feel that way for him. He's just—he's very important to me. [She's a terrible liar, honestly, and she knows it. But that doesn't mean that she's about to admit anything! Let her live, Kaoru!] I try to give everything my all, but he makes me want to try even harder, you know? That's how friendship is supposed to work.
[And he's probably never going to think of her as anything more than a friend, which... well, that's fine! They work as friends, and she never, ever wants to mess that up.]
A-Anyway, tell me more about Kirishima! What have you two been up to? I haven't seen him lately!
no subject
Kaoru tilts her head with a pout before she huffs a little. She'll let it go...for now anyway.
She's pushing a piece of orange into her mouth even as she makes Ochako's orange float on over and bump up against the back of her hand as if to gently remind her that her food was still there.]
Ei-chan? [She's not entirely sure why they were talking about him again.] Well, we've been doing some endurance training together. Or well, he has. I've just been throwing things at him or throwing him around. [Which, while it wasn't really the sort of training she needed, was actually sort of fun. And she couldn't help but be a bit impressed too. She knew the sort of damage she could do and even though she's wearing her Limiter, it was kind of amazing what Kirishima could take.] And he was all set to be Red Riding Hood when the wolf quest came out so I went with him as his woodcutter.
[...it was funnier in context. But that reminded her...]
Does he really have a Red Riding Hood dress? [It's not like she thought he was lying about it, but she just wanted some confirmation!]
no subject
Wait, what was that last bit?]
A dress? [The past awkwardness is instantly forgotten, because what the heck? She shoots Kaoru a puzzled look.] Did he actually say that he owned one? I mean, he can do whatever he wants, but I've never seen him wear anything like that. And he'd look so—
[Hilarious? She turns her face away, trying not to sputter all over the darn place as she pictures him in an old-fashioned red dress. Maiden Kirishima...]
no subject
Kaoru thought it'd be more hilarious if he were actually embarrassed about it. But she's still grinning at Ochako's reaction.]
He did! I was talking about how I didn't have an axe but it's okay because he doesn't have a dress and one thing led to another. [She shrugs.] I don't know if he has the legs for it but he sounds confident enough to pull it off at least.
no subject
Loyalty to her friend, however, forces her to at least try to keep her mirth in check, and she reaches a hand up to cover her mouth. She can do this! She can keep it in!
...Until, of course, Kaoru brings up his legs? Excuse her, please, as she begins howling with genuine laughter.]
His legs! [She's kicking her feet against the side of her chair, not even trying to hold it in any longer.] M-Maybe we should find a dress for him here! Or make one!
[It's all in good-natured fun!]
no subject
When I talked to him it didn't seem like he minded...I guess it's true what they say about guys who are comfortable with their masculinity. But it's no fun if they're not at least a little bit flustered!
[She huffs.] That's what makes Ei-chan no fun to tease! When I told him the way he talks about his powers sounded like a euphemism it barely even phased him. And then! [Sounded like a she has some Real Complaints to lodge against Kirishima,] When I told him I'd have made him empty his wallet buying food for me if there were any restaurants here he just said he likes spoiling his friends! What am I even supposed to do with that kind of response?
[She's rolling her eyes and she definitely sounds like she's complaining but there's something like a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth, like she couldn't help but find it endearing. (But just a little!)]
