Event Seventeen.

I went to the wood and got it;
I sat me down to look for it
And brought it home because I couldn’t find it.

he magical vines creep ever onward, slowly infringing upon the Town. No matter how many are chopped down, no matter how many are set on fire, they keep coming even so.

And slowly, one by one, the people in the Town start to fall to the curse that they bring along with them.

Stay and tend to the cursed? Venture out into the woods to find the castle at the source of these vines?

Whatever you choose to do, you'd better decide quickly; the curse only seems to get worse and worse the longer everyone is afflicted.

I have never heard of such a thing before. Could you explain more of what you mean? Gods manifesting like that... [ Just shove everything that he just did into a pocket dimension where it never happened and let's focus on this weird thing Xie Lian said!!! ]

[ The way Shen Qingqiu is acting, shoveling more tear-inducing porridge into his mouth rather than answer his question, is so amazingly suspicious that he's certain that his words must have hit the mark. Of course; Pyra is blessed with rare and radiant beauty, both within and without. It stands to reason she'd have an endless train of admirers.

He feels a flash of jealousy. And yet... and yet........ ]

[ Pyra's fondest, most ardent wish is to disappear. She doesn't believe she deserves to exist in this world. If anyone can heal her heart, even if that person isn't him, he can't be envious or jealous, only grateful. Thus he gazes at Shen Qingqiu with a complicated expression.... ]

[ .......and turns to Xie Lian. Sorry, you're "it." ]

Who's General Xuanzhen, and when did he manifest to you?

[Seeing Shen Qingqiu shovel porridge into his mouth like that is honestly kind of surreal. Is the man okay? Maybe he should take the bowl away? But this is supposed to be a cure, so maybe it's better to let him suffer this once?

He's more concerned with that than the questions, honestly, staring at Shifu with a look of mixed amusement and worry as he offhandedly answers their questions.]

The gods can manifest in dreams to their disciples, or physically if circumstances demand it. As for Mu--er, General Xuanzhen, well...it's been quite a few years since I last saw his face, to be honest.

[ Please, don't look at me like that, Wei Wuxian! I'm honestly not doing anything! This old man knows how it seems but what it seems and what is are two different things! If you ask me honestly, I'd say nothing but in your heart, you'd hear something!! ]

[ Dear lord. I'm starting to sound like Airplane-bro. He has all right feelings towards his transmigrated bro, but he does recognize when he sounds like he's whining! And really, what is there to whine about? ]

[ Another bite. ]

[ DO I HAVE NO FUCKING MEMORY?! Just stop. Just stop eating this! Just set it to the side! I can't fucking be trusted. ]

[ He gives a few thoughtful nods as he sets the bowl far out of his reach. I have to stop myself. I just have to. I'm sorry. Thank you, but sorry. Shen Qingqiu keeps on nodding along.

Honestly, he has not stopped sweating since he took the first bite. ]

[ Xie Lian, that's fucking weird as all shit. What the fuck? Gods just come and say "hello" to you? Oh wait, you're one of his disciples? ... r-really? D, Does that still warrant a drop-by? "Hello, follower, how are you doing? Oh, good, good. That's good. Still being mortal, cool, cool." What do they even say?! ]

[ It isn't the first time he's heard Xie Lian speak like this, as if he were an old man. He can't help smiling, for the man has the face of a dewy youth. ]

...Well, last we talked, he was rather angry with me, to be honest...

[Not that he'd planned to have that clock fall on him, but the fault is still his own, in the end. More importantly, is it okay to mention having personal relationships with a god? Then again he's already confessed more than he'd like to admit to Pyra, and he met a demigod the other day...

Turning to Wuxian:] He was, actually! We used to go everywhere together--ah, please don't tell him I mentioned that, if you ever meet him.

[ Unconsciously, he picks the bowl back up as he stares at Xie Lian. He sounds so earnest and serious. ]

[ Xie Lian, when exactly do you think either of us are going to have a chance to talk to a god?! Seriously! That doesn't happen! Sure, Binghe's father is pretty high-grade shit and thought almost god-like yadda-yadda-yadda! But he's not actually a god!! ]

[ Also, being angry at a follower, isn't that mean?! What kind of god does that! Take your prayer money back if he can't be kinder!!

He takes a bite of the porridge. ]

[ HOW THE FUCK DID THIS GET BACK IN MY HANDS?! HOW THE FUCK! WH-WHAT WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT? WHAT?!

He swallows what is in his mouth, of course, as he looks down incredulously at the bowl that he's holding! ]

[ I just don't ... I don't understand.

He actually is starting to cry, again, but he is fairly certain that's just the reaction he has to this food now. ]

[ But he recalls that both of them made this for him! Both of them are not having difficulties eating it! Both of them are doing fine. He thought he wouldn't be able to see them again! He is now having the most bizarre conversation he could hope to have with them -- and he's wondering if he isn't hallucinating it. But if he isn't, he should be happy.

He should be happy to have this chance to talk to them about these things. ]

[ So, he stares at the remains of what is in the bowl and quickly eats it. He thinks to himself if he just eats it really, really fast then -- ]

[ He finishes it but his head hits the back of the couch cushions.

And he wonders, if he dies in this body, will his soul go to the seed that is being grown in his world ... ??? ]

.

His head lifts and he shakes his head. Oh my god. Oh my god. What? ]

[ He holds his hands out before looking up. There is a lot he could say. He's back in the conversation and going through what was said -- and ignoring the fact he may have blacked out there for a second.

Shen Qingqiu sorts through all the things he wants to say to Xie Lian about what he just said but only ends up with saying: ]

What? [ And he looks to Wei Wuxian to be more articulate! ]

Wait a second, you're saying your childhood playmate ascended into the heavens from the mortal realm.

[ ... ]

And you don't get along.

[ there are a lot of unbelievable things going on in this conversation, but the one that absolutely strains credulity is: ]
