I went to the wood and got it; I sat me down to look for it And brought it home because I couldn’t find it.

he magical vines creep ever onward, slowly infringing upon the Town. No matter how many are chopped down, no matter how many are set on fire, they keep coming even so. And slowly, one by one, the people in the Town start to fall to the curse that they bring along with them. Stay and tend to the cursed? Venture out into the woods to find the castle at the source of these vines? Whatever you choose to do, you'd better decide quickly; the curse only seems to get worse and worse the longer everyone is afflicted. Welcome to Awash's seventeenth event log, everyone! [Oooookay things might be getting just a little out of hand here. Xie Lian waves his hands in an attempt to politely turn down her suggestion, smile slipping slightly--he's already tired, honestly, so he was bound to slip up on that eventually.]

Oh no, we really don't need to do that! It's, ah--well, I don't think I can say we're truly wed [though he did do the proper wedding kowtows] but I'm happy with just the ring, honestly!

[ Just the ring, but not be ~truly~ wed. What? No, noooo, he must be doing that again. That thing where he goes "It's fine" but it's not really fine-- only this time it's about marriage!!!

Ah, her heart...! It hurts for him! ]

[ Wei Ying you scoundrel! It's one thing to forget about Maya (and other things have happened between them but she's not thinking about that right now okay? okay) but another thing entirely to treat his husband like this!! She's going to have words with him later. ]

No-- that's not something to be happy about. [ She's telling him this. ] He can't just go around making vows and not follow through with them! You have to hold that man to his word! [ Keep your husband on a leash!! ]

Who was your witness? We have to right this wrong as soon as possible!

I-- [why does he feel like he's getting scolded, this situation is kind of getting out of hand, is Wuxian in trouble? He's in trouble, isn't he.

No, it's--it's really fine! Rings aren't exactly part of wedding tradition where I'm from, anyway, so really our having them doesn't mean anything...a-and I don't think there were any witnesses? [if there were he'd have been so embarrassed aaahhh]

[ He's doing it again! Saying it's fine but it's not fine! ] No witnesses?

Then... I'll be your witness. And maybe-- even others, too! [ He deserves a beautiful, grand wedding. One fit for prince!

Because Pyra has only been to one wedding, and it was for a prince, and so that's all she has to base her idea of weddings off of. ] We'll make this work, Xie Lian. It's probably not every day a god falls in love and gets married, huh? So it has to be special!

A-and, um, I'll talk to Wei Wuxian.... about...

[ She looks embarrassed all of a sudden once more, at the idea of talking to him for whatever reason.

--About taking his vows seriously.

[ Why didn't Wei Ying say anything? This just makes things all the more complicated and oh Architect what has she done??

She mad. ]

[But we're not in love he wants to say...would she even believe him at this point? What if that makes it worse? What if he successfully convinces her now, only for her to overhear Wuxian calling him "dearest wife" again?

...He really needs to get him to stop doing that eventually.]

Lady Pyra...we've exchanged no vows, drunk no wine, had no witnesses. All we have is matching rings. Despite what he may say, or how we might look, we aren't truly married. So there's really no need for you to go to so much effort, just to officiate it. There's...there's nothing to make up, here.

[That's a good argument right? Yeah!]

[ No vows, drunk no wine, no witnesses?? She's about to say that that sounds like the worst wedding in history, but finally he clarifies that they aren't married. ]

...But... your rings...?

[...Oh, did it work? Nice.]

We got these when he, ah--[achoo!] ...When he kissed me. [He still can't help turning a little red when he mentions that.] Or around then, at any rate.

[ UM NO??? That just makes things worse?? ]

A-ah... Xie Lian... if someone kisses you, and then exchanges rings with you....

[ That-- ]

It really could mean-- no, that definitely means that he intends to marry you... [ Unless Wei Wuxian hoodwinked this beautiful being into a marriage already?? HOW COULD HE?? ]

[ Offstage: ]

Wife! Dearest wife! Come quick, I’ve found the wine cellar!

[ The sound of running feet and Wei Wuxian enters stage right, ponytail bouncing and his face wreathed in smiles. He bounds up to Xie Lian and says: ]

Wife, do you have any more room in your—oh, hello Pyra!

[ He’s called the other man “wife” so many times that he’s forgotten to be self-conscious and just stands there smiling at Pyra, whom he’s delighted to see. ]

[holycurse]

No, but--well, I'm sure it's just-- [he honestly doesn't know how to follow up on this, what she says makes sense?? But he can't really be married, it's all just a misunderstanding, right?] Lady Pyra, that--that kiss was-- [and then he hears the familiar call of "wife" echoing down the hall.

......................................Right.

Y'know what, okay. Sure. He should've expected this. It's just his luck for this sort of thing to happen, after all.

There's a looonng tired sigh, though, before Xie Lian can muster up the energy to reply.]

.....There's still room, yes.

[ She looks from Xie Lian to Wei Ying the moment he comes running into the room, and Pyra looks all the more shocked for it, if that is even possible.

"Wife"? ..... No, wait-- "Dearest wife"?!

Pyra brings both of her hands to her mouth to cover her gasp when she looks to Xie Lian again, then back to Wei Ying, then finally to Xie Lian once more.

So-- so they are married, but why was Xie Lian saying just now that they weren't-- ah, maybe he's embarrassed about how terribly lacking the so-called wedding had been? Or maybe this had been something he had meant to keep a secret? But now he's going along with it, and Wei Ying seems so happy to be back with his wife, she hasn't personally seen him smile as giddily as that in a long time, how she's missed it--....

....Wei Ying...... doesn't your wife deserve better than a half-assed ceremony? And also.....

Also....!

Her face quickly colors as scarlet as her eyes, and she looks away from the both of them. ]

[pyrafect]

[ Then, when a moment has passed: ] ...Wei Wuxian! [ Yep, addressing him by that name now, because... using his other one might cause some questions from the wife! ] Hello to you, as well.

[ It's like she's been hit by a Titan. She'll be upset at Wei Ying for not giving Xie Lian a proper wedding (and also what about Maya??) and other things-- later. This is supposed to be a happy moment for a husband and wife reuniting in a scary castle. ]

[ He has the idea he missed something. ]

[ And then....... it comes to him. Pyra must have been talking to Xie Lian about being trapped in a coffin. She probably left out the part about being trapped in a coffin with somebody. That's what any normal girl would do. And then the somebody she was trapped with just shows up out of nowhere, and she's probably afraid he'll say something. That's why she turned red. That's why she's using his courtesy name. Fine, fine. He'll take the hint.

He glances at Xie Lian, and then at Pyra—and gives her a great big wink. Don't worry, my dear. I won't breathe a word to anyone.

He taps his "wife" on the shoulder. ]

Please, come down to the cellar when you're done here. It's easy to find, just keep going down. Not all the way down, that's the dungeons. Bye-bye~!

[ With a lilt in his step, and grinning from ear to ear, he exits stage right. ]

[Look, he's even smiling! No problems here! Not a single one.]

[And then the criminal disappears as quickly as he came.

[ ...Ah, it's really difficult to want to want to call Wei Wuxian a scoundrel or a dead-beat husband who doesn't know how to treat his wife right when he's smiling and looking so happy like that.

It takes her a moment to notice that she's watching him leave, her expression as wistful as it is fond. ]

[ Then, back to Xie Lian-- ] Ah, so you two are married.

[ ..... ]

[ She claps her hands. ]

.....What's your favorite kind of flower? For the ceremony, of course.

[ FOCUS ON WEDDING PLANNING, focus on wedding planning. That's a lot easier than... all of this mess. ]

...I rather like white flowers, I suppose. Something about them is very soothing.

[To be honest, after getting called wife so often, he'd gotten so used to it he'd almost forgotten the implications of it. Then with all this talk of how kisses and rings are how marriage works in this place, he's beginning to question himself: maybe they really are married? Did he misunderstand something? How'd he get himself into this??

...Time to attempt (a way-too-late) escape.]

Perhaps we should be seeing about that tea first? And making sure he doesn't get into trouble in that cellar.

[ She'll excuse herself after the they find the tea though.

OH what a coincidence, here's the room in question! ] ...He is your responsibility now, as his wife. [ A light, almost too casual chuckle. ]

But yes, white flowers. [ She continues, looking through the various cabinets. ] ...I'll have to make them from paper or whatever we might find here, though. [ Obviously they can't find real flowers anywhere because it's the dead of winter. ] But we'll do what we can for the two of you. [ Ah--! Is this tea....?


Nope, it's some sort of grain. Onto the next cabinet. ] And... what else? [ Actually-- best to ask this first: ] Have you ever attended a wedding before?

I wouldn't want to trouble you though! There's no need for flowers, especially at this time of year.

[He's never been a wife before...he'd never planned to be a wife before? Is Wei Wuxian really his responsibility now....he's okay with that part, at least.

Joining in on the searching though, he pulls out a few jars, tasting them as he goes.]

I've seen them before, but never as a guest. [just as a beggar eating leftovers outside the gate.] It's always a large celebration, full of music and decoration and food...have you attended one before, Lady Pyra?
