... Duo? Duo, hey!

[ Honestly, after being trapped in that god awful castle, the weather back in town is positively balmy. Which is part of why she's out and about, though the other part is that she's heard about something new in Flavo.

Both reasons are momentarily forgotten when she sees her friend, and she zips up to him with a big grin. She stops just short of hugging him, which it may well seem like she only held herself back from at the last moment... ]

It's good to see you again. Did you make it back from that frigid bullshit hellhole okay?

[Duo certainly isn't complaining about the warmth. It's actually nice enough that he's discarded the turtleneck and jacket for a tank top, mainly because when Vriska finds him he's working outside of his house in Bluo getting wood chopped up for the fireplace inside.

He's not taking any chances this time. If they're going to get frozen out again in a week or however long he'd rather be prepared.

Her calling out to him gets his attention easily, though, and he lowers the ax he was using on the wood so he can wave back at her. The logs he has don't look the healthiest but at this point it's better than nothing.

Probably better she held back on hugging him anyway. He's covered in wood dust and sweat.]

Yeah. Looks like you got out alright, too.

[ Moving past him, she'll snatch that ax out of his hand and hold it up to admire it, tossing it up in the air and easily catching it by the handle. ]

Maybe you've even managed to keep from getting mixed up with any other dangerous broads.

[ that's not a leading statement, probably. ]

The only other 'broad' around here is my housemate, and she'd probably kick me if I called her that.

[If Kohaku was dangerous then water was dry. She was a sweet girl, though he wasn't joking about that kick comment. She had legs that could probably snap a man's neck if she wanted to.

The toss is impressive, and he'd complain about her taking the ax from him the first place if he wasn't welcoming the break right now.]

I was a soldier once, y'know. 'scuse me for being out of my element, oh great and powerful Vriska.

[ Vriska only laughs and returns the ax. The answer seems to satisfy her, anyway. ]

You're damn right I'm great and powerful! Don't you forget it. [ the way she shakes her head is what makes it clear she isn't taking proclamation that too seriously. ] I haven't forgotten about our shared tortured pasts, either! I think I am at least a little entitled to concern, given how we met. For all I know, you are duping all kinds of girls into smooching you for kicks!

[He takes it back and sets it down next to the stump, done for the moment given that he's got a conversation going and frankly he was at that for way too long anyway.

A scoff, but he raises his hands in mock surrender.]

You got me. I'm a secret deviant. I can't believe you found me out.

[ That makes her crack up laughing. ]

It was inevitable! You are totally transparent, and I wasn't fooled by your act. Now will you come with me quietly, or do I have to make you?

[ that's like, an actual offer, just couched in cutesy cagey nonsense, as she do. ]

[A dramatic gasp!]

Undercover! I should have known! Well, I suppose I can't run anymore. Take me in, officer.

[He even puts his hands out like she's going to cuff him.]

[ Now when she smiles it's warm, making her eyes crinkle with the force of it, and she circles her fingers around his wrists, tugging. ]

Come on then! There is something in Flavo I want to check out. [ ... ] Though, uh, do you want my jacket or something?

[ Won't he get cold... then again, humans seem a little more durable in the cold than trolls are. ]

[Oh. Right, it's actually cold when he's not swinging an ax around.]

I can run in and grab mine.

[If she lets go that is. He's totally up for going, though!]

Go, go! [ She lets him go, making shooing motions. ] I am not having you freeze to death on my watch. Don't make me wait!

Yeah yeah, I got it.

[Off he goes, disappearing inside for a brief moment. He returns with a proper shirt and jacket on, closing the door behind himself as he bounces back down the steps.]

Lead the way.

[ He'll find her idly twirling the ax again, but when she spots him coming she'll give it a last toss and hop over to him. Whether through skill or great fortune, the ax lands with a solid thunk right in the center of a nearby log intended for chopping, cleaving it neatly in twain.

But never mind that! She'll loop an arm through one of his and tug him along. ]

Have you heard about it? There's just this new lake, suddenly.

[... damn.

That is both impressive and mildly infuriating.

To his credit, though, he sticks with 'impressive' and gives a low appreciative whistle.]

A new lake? Like, it just appeared?

[ That's kinda Vriska in a nutshell, honestly. ]

Yeah, that's what I heard. Actually, I think Prompto called it a pond, but I want to see it either way! It can't hurt to get familiar with whatever new bullshit Chroma is going to pull on us.

[Of course it is.]

Pond, lake, either way this place likes to play fast and loose with basic physics.

[So he's agreed on the "bullshit" part of that for sure. Game to check it out regardless.]

Right? It's annoying, though it fits the whole storybook theme they seem to have going on. Do some magic nonsense, and a convenient magic pond appears! You hear that kind of thing in myths and legends all the time. The more we satisfy their dumb fairy tale requirements, the more bizarro nonsense is likely to happen! [ EYE ROLL THOUGH ]

I hate playing along with this kind of thing, but other options have been sparse.

I've noticed...

[He brought it up to a few people after arriving, but he couldn't really get beyond "we don't have any other choice" with them.

It grossly reminds him of some of the organizations back home, the ones that were intent on pushing the war out as long as they could and were profiting off the backs of dead soldiers and innocents...

But he's not about to bring that part up.]

I'm not gonna hold my breath that anything good comes from this.

[ A dry laugh. ]

You mean from the pond, or all this storybook bullshit in general? Because either way, I completely agree.

[ True to the stories Vriska heard, when they arrive in Flavo, there sure is a brand new lake plopped right in the middle of the district. Vriska will let Duo go to float into the air and go hover over the very edge where land meets ice. ]

Would you look at that. It's so mundane, but the fact that it's here at all is borderline irritating!

... wow. This is... incredibly boring!

[It's a fucking pond. Hurray?

A frozen one at that. So they can't even use it for water. Even better. Thanks, Mr. F! You suck.

Duo moves closer and crouches down at the edge, staring at the thick reflective ice, his own distorted face gazing back at him.]

Well, this was pointless.

[ And Vriska's ... quiet, strangely. She's pretty much never quiet, so that's weird.

Instead she's curling over in the air, peering down at the ice with a confused frown.

Whatever it is she's seeing in there, she jerks back only a few moments later, stumbling onto land and falling right on her ass. And she'll just kinda stay there for a moment, looking unsure of how to feel. ]

... was that just me? Did you see anything?

Eh?

[Duo looked up from his own reflection after she tumbled back, straightening so he can walk over and make sure she's alright.

He glances where she had been looking before shaking his head.]

I didn't see anything. You okay?

[An offered hand so she doesn't have to sit on the cold ground.]

[ Quiet, Vriska doesn't say anything for a moment, still staring at the ice. But she'll take his hand to get to her feet. ]

... but I saw--

[ without thinking she'll kind of curl her hand around his, gripping it a little tighter. ]

I saw the universe breaking apart. Haha, what the fuck?

[ Vriska shakes her head roughly. She doesn't show it much on her face, but the way she holds his hand probably gives away the fact that she's a little freaked out. ]
