t's very, very cold. It's cold enough that you'll see your breath fog in the air before you, that goosebumps appear on your arms and legs and a chill goes up your spine. You're inside, in a huge palace with sweeping arches and rooms, but it's no real shelter from the cold -- it's just as cold inside as out.
There's a throne room, a kitchen, various rooms and even a dungeon to be explored -- and outside, a frigid, frozen garden, a lake that's naturally frozen over, and miles, and miles of snow as far as the eye can see.
But be careful while you explore. The snowflake soldiers are naturally dangerous, but even more dangerous than that...there's that creeping sensation of numbness going up your arm, a pang through your chest, and the slow, slow freezing from the inside out.
Try not to leave any of your friends behind, okay? Even if they might look a bit too uncannily like some of the statues hanging around for decoration when they're frozen over.

I could just disappear again, you know. Then what would you do?
[ This is a mature conversation between two very mature ladies. ]
no subject
Stare at the place you disappeared from and then start telling lies about you to see if you're still there or not. [Which is so very mature of her.]
no subject
You assume I have much thinner skin than I do.
[ It's a pretty safe assumption considering how she's acting... ]
Anyway, I don't really believe the whole "we were walking in the same direction" story. I'll ask you again—why were you following me?
no subject
Well, I'm sure I can think of a few mean things to say.
[Because psychometry means being able to dig deep into people's trauma. Though that probably also meant Lux would run away more which isn't ideal in the least.]
Because you were glowing and I wanted to see if you'd know the way out of here or to somewhere better.
no subject
[ That came out a lot more perturbed than she might normally like, but Lux doesn't question it. This is a pain.
She winces faintly when Shiho mentions the glow, her gaze sliding away as she lets her arms cross over her chest. There's no harm in passing along information, at least. ]
If there is a way out of here, I haven't been able to find it. The front gates lead to a frozen wasteland; and as far as I can tell there aren't any passageways or escape routes in this place. It doesn't make any sense.

Well, I guess they wouldn't go through all this trouble to bring us all here just to let us escape. Like in fairy tales, right? Next thing you know, a beast is going to come crashing through the halls and tell us that we should have stayed out of the west wing or something.

[ Oh! Does this girl know something she doesn't? Maybe being followed—erm, "going in the same direction"—isn't so bad after all!
Sorry Shiho, that one soared right over her head. ]
no subject
...You know, I haven’t been to the west wing yet. There might be.
no subject
Then that's where I'm headed.
[ Lux takes a few steps past Shiho before glancing at her from over her shoulder. ]
And if someone decides to follow me, I suppose there isn't much I can do about it, is there?
no subject
[Because wandering around alone is dangerous. Lux looks like she can take care of herself, but there is always strength in numbers.
Besides, maybe there really is something in the west wing.]
no subject
[ Lux starts to walk, pulling her staff out to use as a makeshift torch; the crystal on the end lighting their path. She can see just fine in the dark, but if this girl insists on following her, then that means Lux is at least somewhat responsible for what happens to her. The last thing she wants is for Shiho to trip over something.
But that does make her wonder. ]
...You aren't afraid of me. Why not?
no subject
And you're lighting the way and everything too. [Though Shiho also doesn't need the light either every time she touches the wall. Still, she appreciates this.]
no subject
You're all so strange here.
[ Is this what it's like, living somewhere where your existence isn't a crime? She isn't sure how to react, especially with her emotions dampened. She wants to feel heartened by that, but everything seems so distant. ]
I'm not sure if I should be happy, or worried for you.
no subject
Shiho raises an eyebrow at the back of Lux's head as they walk. In contrast with everyone else she thinks she's rather normal and well-adjusted. If anything, finding someone she'd just met scary seems so much stranger. After all, Shiho is no stranger to being hated before she'd even so much as opened her mouth and she doesn't want to be that person.]
You should be happy. And you can save that worry for the rest of the people here.
