t's very, very cold. It's cold enough that you'll see your breath fog in the air before you, that goosebumps appear on your arms and legs and a chill goes up your spine. You're inside, in a huge palace with sweeping arches and rooms, but it's no real shelter from the cold -- it's just as cold inside as out.
There's a throne room, a kitchen, various rooms and even a dungeon to be explored -- and outside, a frigid, frozen garden, a lake that's naturally frozen over, and miles, and miles of snow as far as the eye can see.
But be careful while you explore. The snowflake soldiers are naturally dangerous, but even more dangerous than that...there's that creeping sensation of numbness going up your arm, a pang through your chest, and the slow, slow freezing from the inside out.
Try not to leave any of your friends behind, okay? Even if they might look a bit too uncannily like some of the statues hanging around for decoration when they're frozen over.

No, that's... that sounds entirely like a fairy tale.
[Minato just looks pretty rueful at that.]
I don't know if I can cry on command like that, but... I bet you're right, and that's exactly what will work. It sounds like something this place would pull.

[ They hum in agreement. Of course it can't be as simple as just "go cry on and kiss every cold person you see", but they have to admit that they're faintly certain that this is at least related to the solution. For once. ]
So? Did you break your mirror, or are you just cold...
[ They're betting on the latter, considering Minato isn't giving them I-don't-care-about-anything-chic. ]

[Minato murmurs that out easily enough, rubbing his arms.]
I don't... r-really do well with cold.
[He has bad associations with winter... sorry.]
You...do well in the c-cold though, right...?
no subject
Normally, yes. My kind can't feel temperature.
[ So as it is right now, they're not feeling even a bit of the chilliness in the air, probably as is obvious given the way they dress everyday without looking like they're freezing. ]
Earlier in the week, I felt the cold for a few days, but it seems that that has subsided.

[Minato grimaces at that, shaking his head.]
That must have been even more miserable, especially if you're not used to it... I'm g-glad you're back to normal now, C-Cairngorm-san.

[ They'd hate it. Most humans they speak with seem to feel sad that gems are devoid of feeling pain or temperature, but they're of the opinion that they're lucky to be blessed with the lack of sensation. Perspective is everything. ]
There were others that helped me, so I was fine. But it was still awful. [ They give a slightly concerned glance at his grimace, shifting their weight. ] Shouldn't you actually be sitting by a fire, or something?
no subject
[Minato murmurs that a little, shrugging. He's not surprised Cairngorm didn't enjoy it. Cairngorm is Cairngorm; gems don't live that way, and that's all there is to it.]
I wanted to check around, though. You've noticed p-people acting weird t-too, right...?
[He's worried about his friends...!!]

[ As they expected, those who broke their mirrors started acting in strange ways just a few days into this mess. As if to lead him to somewhere with a flame, and also to take a break from standing in this empty throne room, they take a step away from it, expecting him to follow. ]
As it stands, their behavior is approaching the way that character I told you about acts after getting shards of the mirror inside him. So, probably... [ It sucks to feel so unsure, but at the same time, no other progress on an alternative cure is being made. ] Sooner or later, we'll have to attempt one of the cures I explained to you. Obviously that won't make some people happy.

[He shrugs a little.]
I think they'll understand it was necessary to save them.
[NEEDS MUST.]
It could be worse, right?
no subject
I would hope so. But some of the people I proposed this idea to were pretty against it. [ There's a pause. ] Are a lot of the people you know affected?
[ It's probably...easier to do it with people you at least know somewhat, right? They have a hunch it'll only work on people they're close to, given the story, too. ]
no subject
... I'm not sure yet. I've seem some people I care about acting a little weird, but it's hard to tell if people are just cold or if they're actually freezing over from the curse.
... I'd probably get slapped if I tried to kiss someone who was just really cold, you know?
no subject
[ Wow. All they can think is that people are in for a rude awakening if they try to slap them. ]
And anyway - can't you just ask them? That's what I did for you, after all.

[HE...SUPPOSES...
Minato, please.
But honestly...]
You're right about that, though. The best we can do here is just be cautious and help out how we can. ...And hope that those really are the right ways to help everyone.

[ Maybe it's different for them since they're an alien and would be able to look past the momentary weirdness of it since they don't do stuff like that to begin with. They suppose it's also a matter of how well you know the other person; in their opinion, it'd almost be easier to overlook something like that from a stranger than to someone close to them. It might make things weird if it's someone they actually like and aren't indifferent towards. ]
I'm going to try it eventually, on someone I know. They're a gem like me, so they're not gonna care about the method. [ A pause. ] If it works, I'll try to pass it around more.
