t's very, very cold. It's cold enough that you'll see your breath fog in the air before you, that goosebumps appear on your arms and legs and a chill goes up your spine. You're inside, in a huge palace with sweeping arches and rooms, but it's no real shelter from the cold -- it's just as cold inside as out.
There's a throne room, a kitchen, various rooms and even a dungeon to be explored -- and outside, a frigid, frozen garden, a lake that's naturally frozen over, and miles, and miles of snow as far as the eye can see.
But be careful while you explore. The snowflake soldiers are naturally dangerous, but even more dangerous than that...there's that creeping sensation of numbness going up your arm, a pang through your chest, and the slow, slow freezing from the inside out.
Try not to leave any of your friends behind, okay? Even if they might look a bit too uncannily like some of the statues hanging around for decoration when they're frozen over.

Of course, of course. I have taken great care to keep them warm. Without them, I could not create any more masterpieces, or fight.
[ She lets out another breathy "haaaaah" of hot air onto her fingers, a smile still on her face. ]
But your concern is appreciated, and your recognition of beauty moreso.
no subject
You could say I'm an expert in the matter.
[ distantly, he wonders how one would go about stealing a snow sculpture; fortunately, he doesn't have to solve that problem at the moment... but maybe someday... ]
And it's my opinion that beauty is enhanced by skill. This is yours, I assume? [ he gestures towards the aforementioned Hot Sword. ]
no subject
Yes. It is glorious, is it not? A fine instrument for a player as perfect as I.
[ The blade is pretty much as big as she is, almost 5 feet (or 150cm). ]
no subject
I'm amazed anyone can pick up a sword that big, especially a fair maiden like yourself. [ but hey, he's seen weirder things. He inches a little closer to it, although it's out of a desire to stay warm rather than a desire to filch it (there's no way he could lift that thing, anyway.) ] It's certainly coming in handy here, saving you the trouble of finding kindling to burn. I'm pretty jealous.
no subject
Still, nobody should blame anyone for finding it annoying or obnoxious either. ]
That is natural. It is also perfect for defeating those pesky knights of cold.
[ Type advantage!! She sidles closer to the sword as well, because she'd like a break from the snow sculpting too. It is indeed large and heavy, and has an inscription carved on it: "regnum caelorum et gehenna". "The kingdom of heaven and hell." ]
Still, maintaining such magecraft requires enough energy that I cannot keep it ever-burning.
[ And so she will have to take a break and head inside when she does. ]
no subject
[ adding onto the difficulty in understanding is the fact that it apparently works different in every world. Anytime he meets someone new who has their own wacky powers, he has a whole new set of rules to learn. Lupin's doing his best to keep up. ]
So you go inside and take a nap to recharge?
no subject
That is the gist of it, yes. My Master is not here to provide me with a better mana supply, so I will have to subsist on what the town offers, which replenishes over time.
[ As opposed to having a living, sentient Master who can decide when and to whom to direct their mana to. ]
no subject
[ that gets him to tilt his head a bit, looking a little perturbed (his first thought is that she's a slave, and he strongly disapproves), but he stops himself from pressing the question further. There's something important he's forgetting. ]
Sorry. I'm asking you all these questions, and I haven't even introduced myself. Just terrible. My name is Arsène Lupin - just Lupin is fine. [ he reaches up to tip his hat with a gentlemanly flourish. ] Might I have the honor of knowing yours?
no subject
It probably doesn't bode well for a hedonistic, overindulgent tyrant like herself. Then again, even Robin Hood was able to put aside his animosity to work with her after knowing her true name...for the most part. (He still calls her "princess" and makes fun of her though, which!! Is an outrage!!)
Nero smiles, a small one. He's quite gentlemanly, she'll give him that much. ]
...Very well. You may refer to me as Saber.
[ Still, he'd disclose his true name already?
Does he know what that entails? Then again, he is not a Servant, as far as she can tell, since he seemed to be disturbed by the mere mention of "Master", so he's probably a case like Jekyll, Frankenstein's monster, and Holmes. ]
no subject
He guesses that she's using a title instead of her actual name, herself. The honor isn't his yet, he supposes. ]
Miss Saber, then. It's a pleasure. [ he tucks his hands back into his pockets. ] How is it that a lady of such talent and beauty finds herself with a "master?"
no subject
Hmhm...you have misunderstood. Simply because I have a Master does not mean I am a slave to their every word, or referring to a flight of fantasy in one's private bedchambers.
[ She just throws that out there all casual-like. She gestures, pressing a hand to her chest while the other has its palm facing upwards, not unlike how she would hold out her hand to someone who needed it. ]
It is a contract, Lupin. I was summoned by a Master to aid them, and in exchange, they provide the mana—energy—necessary for my physical existence. However, I will never obey one I find unseemly.
[ And that is the reason that nobody really summons her on purpose. She is too flighty for the likes of cold, calculating magi to summon intentionally. No, it was not a regular magus or a genius who summoned her. It was simply a lone soul who refused to die. ]
no subject
The rest of what she says is more interesting, anyway. ]
In other words, you're some sort of familiar spirit? You're the first one I've met that looks so human.
[ it would have been outrageous to him a year ago, but something like a summoned servant isn't any stranger than a living crystal or a gun-toting giant pigeon. ]
no subject
Correct. Does this mean you have met others before?
[ She is aware that Servants are still kind of a special case compared to regular magus familiars, but it's the closest analogue she can think of that can explain their concept to a layperson easiest. ]
no subject
[ sure, all the ones he's seen have been vaguely human-shaped, but that only made them a little more frightening, if anything. Including the one that was apparently supposed to be him. ]
no subject
[ Lancelot, Heracles, Cu Chulainn Alter, mostly.
And then there's a certain spoiler Servant.]But, a whole group of children?
[ A bunch of kids as the equivalent of magi. Somehow, Nero is not surprised at all, because that's pretty much what happened in the Moon Cell too. ]
no subject
[ he comes from a world that (he incorrectly thinks) is distinctly non-magical, so seeing all these summoned beasts and mythical monsters was a big shock; he's still trying to wrap his head around the logistics of some of it. Mostly, he's given up on trying. It is magic, after all. ]
But yeah. Teenagers, actually - I'm making myself sound old. There are four or five of them at the very least.
no subject
[ And so her "perhaps" turned into a proclamation. To learn about other worlds is a welcome opportunity in her eyes. If they had 2 or 3 more, there could be enough for a Holy Grail War...but no. She does not like that. The last "proper" Holy Grail War she was in, Nero found distasteful. It's that doctor's fault, honestly. ]
They are not to fight each other with such spirits, are they?
no subject
[ for some reason, he's ended up taking care of like every Persona user in town... but he likes them, so it's fine. ]
As for fighting each other, I don't think they do. It's more like... they work together to fight against monsters. Something like that, anyway.
no subject
...Ah. They also have that burden.
[ Like Mash and Ritsuka, and...everyone else at Chaldea, really. Quite a weight on their shoulders. Her expression softens, for just a moment. It's not like she's a stranger to waiting hundreds of years in ennui. But she thrives in familiar company, and as much as she loathes to admit it, she's clingy, so all of a sudden, she feels a bit lonely, sentimental at the thought of how they're doing back there. ]
Well, everyone here has their own stories to tell, their own burdens and backgrounds. I am sure you are just as interesting, despite claiming that you do not believe in such fantastical things.
[ He probably comes from a world in the age of man...sage nods. ]
no subject
Unfortunately, I'm no more than an average good-for-nothing. [ Lupin grins, a bit mischievously. ] I can't hold a candle to a warrior spirit that wrestles lions in the nude.
[ yeah he saw that one too. ]
no subject
Nero has little, if any, sense of shame or what others consider modesty or common sense, so she simply beams upon being reminded of one of her ~masterpieces~. ]
Oh, you saw that one! Yes, it is an impressive feat, is it not? Though I wish my citizens found it so as well...
[ Probably because they thought she was some delusional megalomaniac of a ruler (which they wouldn't be wrong about). ]
no subject
[ now he's really puzzled about what her position is. The Personas had been famous historial and mythological figures, though; perhaps she's the same, even if he's reasonably certain she's not actually a literal Persona. Some kind of famous summon spirit? itt Lupin's educated guesses from being in a panfandom RP for a year are hilariously accurate. ]
no subject
But of course. As a ruler, I am consummate. My might and talents must reflect those of my people, and those who would place their life in my hand.
[ Which includes her Master as well. Her voice is lighthearted, but she carefully fixes her gaze on Lupin, watching for his reaction. She thinks that her type will inevitably butt heads with thieves of the chivalrous sort, one with far too much wealth and too many treasures, and the other who will steal them on behalf of others. Her position would handily explain the size of her ego, at least. ]
no subject
So you're a queen? Wow. [ he looks amused, and nothing more. ] There's a princess here, but I think you're the first actual monarch to set foot on our soil.
no subject
Sweats internally at being an infamously hedonistic and ruthless emperor...She silently notes his amusement (and just amusement, it seems), internally a bit relieved. It is not that she is ashamed of her name, no, she could never be, but she is aware that others have reason to be wary of her, and she'd rather get off on the right foot when it comes to first impressions, for the most part. There is a reason no mage wanted to summon her of their own volition.
Nero's a little surprised that she's the only real monarch to have arrived already, but it's entirely possible that others are concealing their true reputations here, like she is. A princess, though. She'd like to meet her. ]
I am an emperor [ yes, the masculine form, that's just how Fate/ rolls ], to be specific. Though this is not my empire, I have pledged my blade to the town's inhabitants, for they are the most beautiful things here, especially when the town itself is so...lacking.
[ Colorless. Flavorless. Useless. Just...lacking. It is enough to make her artistic sensibilities weep. Although the town is technically what she's contracted to at the moment, she doesn't care. Plus, despite her...everything, she's chaotic good at heart. ]
