1; the cuddle prompt (all month)

[ Fushimi is on his front porch. It's not, like, the best front porch, but it does in a pinch. He seems unbothered by the cold, but he has a steaming cup of coffee next to him and a blanket in his lap and he's typing on his laptop since this battery isn't affected by cold... somehow... he hates that nothing makes sense here.

If someone he knows walks by, he'll drag his eyes up from the laptop screen and offer, slowly, carefully, a little bit like a robot attempting to mimic human behavior: ] ...Hey.

[ If he doesn't know you, then he just looks at you and takes a sip of that coffee. ]

2; the mirror prompt (nov 8-12)

[ So there's a mirror following Fushimi. The mirror is resting against something no matter where he goes -- against the coffee stash in his house, against a tree, against the sword in his room. In the mirror is, well, Fushimi: he has his hair slicked back, unlike the looser way he's been wearing it lately for lack of hair gel, and he has an extremely unkind look on his face, an uncharitable smile that glints like a weapon in its own right.

It, actually, resembles Fushimi when he arrived more than anything else.

Fushimi, for his part, just looks exasperated, reaching out to turn the mirror to face a wall. ]

Seriously...? What's even the point of this?

[ The mirror is laughing, and Fushimi looks even more tired. ]

3; snow snow go away (nov 11-12)

[ There's a snow drift in Fushimi's way. Wherever he's going, there's snow, and he seems to be pretty well insulated in his puffy black jacket, but he still looks dour and annoyed. (The mirror thing probably isn't helping.)

When he gets to snow drift, he raises a hand -- maybe he's going to use his fire powers to melt the snow! --

and then he kicks the snow drift in an explosion of powder and irritation, showering the entire area in wet snow. Hope you weren't nearby! ]

[Shouto knows awkward and he's pretty awkward himself, but he's pretty sure he's ever actually looked that much like a robot.

Still, they talked once in the forest before. So he heads over.]

[ Well, now that he's answered, Fushimi doesn't really know how to deal with any of this... he'll do his best, he supposes.

He shrugs up a shoulder. ]

Nothing, right? It's been quiet, lately. [ It's kind of nice that they get these breaks in between fighting off sirens and skeletons and werewolves! Convenient. ]

[Shouto can pretty casually talk to people now that he's trying to be a normal(ish) teenager. It's not like his father is suddenly going to start climbing out of the well.]

Yeah. I haven't seen any werewolves for months.

[He'll count it as a success.]

[ Fushimi doesn't even want to imagine his own father as a general rule, much less crawling out of the well to terrorize everyone (but mostly Fushimi). That's a special kind of trauma that he just isn't even going to deal with. ]

There'll be something. [ Fushimi sounds a little tired when he says it; of course there'll be something, there's always something, but, hopefully -- ]

...not for awhile, probably. [ A beat, and then, by way of explanation: ] I was trying to -- get ahead of things, with the quests.

[ Doing the easy quests when things are quiet seems like the best strategy towards not getting, like, killed. ]

There's always something.

[Shouto just kind of stares at him for a moment. Oh. Huh. Is he actually trying to ask to do one of the quests?

That's a roundabout way of doing it, but maybe not everybody can just be blunt about everything.]

Are you asking to cuddle?

No. [ Fushimi says it too quickly, because it's embarrassing to hear it said like that -- and it isn't like he's exactly looking forward to it, the idea of touching other human beings a little... weird. He's getting more used to it, but it still isn't exactly his favorite thing. ]

I'm... volunteering. [ That sounds better than "asking", right? It makes it sound less like Fushimi is trying to cuddle people and more like he's doing something!! For the greater good!!

Sort of. ]

Volunteering to cuddle sounds weirder. [Ever the blunt type. Sure it's the quest, but just saying he wants to cuddle is much easier than trying to get around it.

But sure, he doesn't have anything to do and he's talked to this guy... once.]

You got a blanket ready?

It's just for the quest! [ Geeze, Fushimi doesn't want to be seen as the creepy cuddler. In his defense, it really is a quest, and there really aren't that many people he'd cuddle of his own volition.

Like, two. Three, maybe, but one is dead, so that doesn't count, probably. ]

... yeah, I do. [ It's a blanket cobbled together from other blankets, but it still works. ]

[There's at least a handful of people Shouto would willingly cuddle without a quest. But since it's a quest on the line, he walks up and steels himself for an extra round of cuddling.]

Okay. I'm ready.

...you don't have to act like it's the worst thing you could do. [ Fushimi has never quite felt offended at someone not wanting to cuddle him before -- usually because Fushimi is the last person on earth that wants to cuddle other human beings -- but having it turned around on him is a little...

Well.

He clicks his tongue, irritably, and holds out the blanket so Shouto can... come cuddle. ]

We'd better get a real good reward from this...

[Does it look like that? It probably does... He's never been good at being enthusiastic, even over things he wants to do. Not much to do about it now though. Shouto slips under the blanket without a complaint.]

What's a good reward to you?

Anything useful. They've been okay so far. [ A little dumb, sometimes, but usually pretty useful -- winter blankets and music boxes that chase away nightmares and things like that. It's not as good at reward as information, or getting out of here, but... well. He'll take it.

He tucks the blanket around them both, a little automatically -- he doesn't really need the blanket to stay warm, but it does add to the "cozy" vibe, he guesses. ]

...I don't know how long they want us to stay.

[With Shouto's left side pressed against Fushimi's, he'll notice Shouto runs a little bit warmer.] I think this one gives out a blanket.

I stayed under one all night, but we were going to sleep anyway. Maybe ten minutes is enough?

[ A solid 90% of all Fushimi cuddling action takes place with Yata, who also runs hot -- so Fushimi doesn't actively notice anything unusual about the heat that Shouto radiates. For Fushimi's part, he seems a little colder than usual, like his body temperature is trying to match the surrounding air. ]

Ten minutes is fair for a blanket... [ Fushimi fully intends to stockpile the blankets for an extra cozy blanket fort.

Don't judge him, he never had a real childhood. ]

[Fushimi's coldness settles Shouto in a way. The chill reminds him of mom and his sister. So he settles in more easily than he was expecting.]

It's a pretty nice blanket, but it's just one.

I don't need that many. [ One is enough; two is plenty; three is fort material. ]

I don't get cold easily. Even in weather like this, I guess. [ It's cold, but Fushimi's been out in snow in just his uniform before. It's always nice to be around people with fire powers in winter, even if he'll literally never admit it. ]

My body temperature adjusts to whatever makes me comfortable. I don't know if it's actually cold out.

[He still kind of shifts so more of him is in contact with Fushimi, not that he seems entirely aware of it.]

[ Despite Fushimi's grumbling, he's actually not that adverse to tactile things like cuddling once they start -- especially with people who are warm. It's sort of nostalgic. He sighs, leaning back a little to get more comfortable, making the contact between he and Shouto a little easier, a little more solid. ]

It's definitely cold out. I think other people are really cold. [ Just not he or Yata, so it's hard to gauge. ]

[For somebody who didn't get a lot of this cuddling thing growing up, he's making up for it now, leaning against Fushimi. He's comfortable now, even if it was to last longer than 10 minutes, he'd be fine with it.

He might be falling asleep.]

You can see their breath in the air. Maybe they should start wearing jackets.

[ Fushimi isn't liable to fall asleep, but that's because at this point his blood is 90% caffeine. He has an arm free to poke at the laptop, though, scrolling through the same posts on the forum like something new will pop up. It doesn't.

Despite himself, he's comfortable, even if being in this much contact with someone he doesn't know very well is a little awkward, it feels -- sort of normal? Like the sort of thing real people (tm) do. ]

If they get frostbitten, it's their own fault. [ Like. There may not be the best choice of clothing in this place, but there's definitely ways to get coats and be cozy. ]

[The forum updates when somebody has something to say. Sometimes it's useful and sometimes it's pure nonsense. It just depends on who wants to chat.

This might not be something normal people do, but Shouto doesn't have much of a concept of "normal".]

Everybody should know what cold is like. There's some old blankets that can be sewn into better ones.

[Ryuu decided to take a long way home after visiting the library again. He's been visiting it lately to read up on different tales he decided to call it a day and rest up at home for a little bit before he got dinner started. It would give him a chance to see how things have changed during the winter too. When he walked passed Fushimi's house he gives a cheerful greeting back.]

Hi Fushimi! How are you?

[ How is this man so tall and so cheerful all the time. All the tall people in Fushimi's life are never this cheerful, it's insane. Fushimi didn't realize he equated being very large with being quiet until he met Ryuu. ]

...Fine. [ Fushimi hesitates -- he's still not entirely sure how to handle people like Ryuu, who exist in a sphere of "extremely friendly but not exactly people that Fushimi would say he's fond of" -- but errs on the side of being nice. Which is to say, "What would Dextera/Yata/Totsuka-san do?" ]

How... are you?

[ Nailed it. ]

I'm doing good.

[Ryuu placed his hands in his jacket pocket as he walked over to the porch. He stopped when he saw the laptop.]

Oh, if you're doing some work I can come back later.

[Ryuu may look worried cause he doesn't want to disturb Fushimi even if he wants to talk to him.]

It's not... work. [ Fushimi doesn't have work, here. He misses work. He never thought he would miss work, but he does: he misses Scepter 4, he misses the bureaucracy and the paperwork and the smell of servers, he misses the dorms and the lunches and the way everyone offered to eat his food and get him more, he misses the feel of a fresh pressed uniform and a hot shower after a fight. ]

There's not anything to do on them, anyway. [ There's not even a local internet, aside from the forum. Fushimi would sacrifice a lot of things for even wikipedia at this point. ]

[Knowing that he isn't taking Fushimi away from work makes him feel better, though he does miss his own work schedule. It felt weird to go from having a busy work schedule to coming here with nothing at all. He missed practicing, singing, traveling to different venues, being able to see his friends, and call his family too. Well, as long as they were safe, Ryuu would be able to adjust to his new schedule. He hoped Fushimi has been able to do the same.]

Yeah we still can't do anything on it. I thought we would be able to do something else by now, maybe we'll be able to do something else in the future. So, how have you been?

[Since this time Ryuu can talk to him without worrying about seeing a personal memory.]

[ Fushimi thinks about telling Ryuu all the problems with these laptops -- how he's tried to program things and it hasn't worked; how nothing is actually the way a laptop should run and it all feels instead like someone took the veneer of a laptop and planted it on top of a completely different system --

And then he decides it's a pointless and exhausting conversation, because he'd probably have to explain things and he doesn't have the energy for teaching people about programming without anything to use as an example. ]

...It hasn't been terrible. I thought something worse would happen, after the festival.

[ You know, when people lit the wickerman on fire. ]

Uh.

... you? [ Smooth. ]

I thought the same thing would happen too. Maybe something will happen when we least expect it. We did go through a lot during that time maybe the town is giving us a break. Hopefully anything that happens won't be too bad.

[That has been on the back of Ryuu's mind since he heard about the burning of the wickerman. He doesn't know what's going to happen, he'll just try not to worry too much about it.]

It's good that things haven't been too bad. Hmm? Well, not too bad, I've been practicing more since the stage appeared. Other than that I've been going to the library to read the fairy tales. Have you gone to the library lately?

[He could talk about how much he misses Gaku and Tenn, being able to talk to his family, and the friends he's made back home, though he shouldn't do that. He knows that they're going to meet again. Now he can make some more friends while he's here.]

...you're still worried about things like performing? [ Fushimi doesn't exactly sound judgemental -- well, maybe a little -- but it's mostly because he keeps meeting idols and they're all so... nice? And really love singing? Like, at least as much as Fushimi enjoys programming.

He's a little jealous, actually, that they can manage to do their job even in a place like this while Fushimi is stuck with safe mode computers. ]

I don't go to the library much. [ He doesn't leave the house nearly as much as he should. ]

Well, I'm not worried since I don't have to do lives or anything here, still you never know when I might have to perform. It's always good to be ready so I won't be too rusty. [Even if he's performing for an audience of one, he wants to make sure that he gives the best show he can. He's still a member of TRIGGER after all.]

Really? There's some interesting books in there. I started to go there after we had to fight those sirens that time. It's a good place to warm up for awhile too.

[Ryuu may have gotten used to winter due to working in Tokyo, still it's not his favorite season.]

You haven't seen anything out of the ordinary lately, have you?

I don't get cold easily. [ Which might be obvious from the fact that he's sitting on the porch in just a blanket in the middle of winter... you know how it is. The blanket is cozy but it isn't that cozy. ]

I read some, since I thought it might help to figure out what's going on...

[ It didn't, in the end. ]

I wish I could say the same.

[Ryuu did notice that he wasn't wearing a jacket. It's about the same as the jacket he has on. It's not like his winter wear back home, but it's good enough.]

Yeah there's nothing to explain what's happening here. There are stories I haven't read before though and that's pretty interesting. [Ryuu hummed softly as looked up at the colorless sky]

It would be good to know even a little bit of what's happening...

[Ryuu looked away from the sky and turned to Fushimi with a smile.]

Then again I guess that would be too easy.

[So the funny (??) thing about Ichimatsu is... Well, okay, so there are more things that are "funny" about him than aren't, he's pretty freaking weird, but the particular thing of note currently is that he doesn't live anywhere in particular. He just carries what little he owns around with him and sleeps wherever and whenever the impulse strikes him. As a result, he wanders around a lot, trying to find quiet places people won't bother him if he just climbs up on something and takes a fucking nap.]

[So today he wanders by Fushimi's porch and pauses, watching his bizarrely robotic attempt at socialization, and quirks a crooked grin, moseying on up and standing on the steps with his hands in his pockets.]

Do you always look so tired? [ Rude, Fushimi, but Fushimi has never been one to try and be polite... and it's true: Ichimatsu always looks a little bit like he might collapse at any moment. He looks how Fushimi feels, most days, but Fushimi has some unfair genetics at play that result in a clear complexion and no undereye bags even when he's pulled three consecutive all nighters.

Enviable. ]

Uh... [ Fushimi appears to realize that was rude a second after he says it. ]

I mean... [ Fushimi pauses for a bit, trailing off, and then clicking his tongue, because he meant exactly what he said and doesn't know how to rephrase it. ]

[Honestly, it's hard to be rude to Ichimatsu. You kind of have to have self worth to find something directed at you rude. Regardless, he doesn't look bothered by the question, chuckling and shrugging one shoulder, shuffling up the steps and standing near him.]

I don't make a habit of looking at myself, so probably.

[ Fushimi's lips twitch in something that might be amusement. It's a fair enough statement, on Ichimatsu's part; it's not like Fushimi would trust any mirrors around here. They'd probably just show the fairest of them all or some weird bullshit. ]

You look tired. [ It's just a statement of fact, and Fushimi's tone is surprisingly level, all things considered. ]

Not really unusual, for a place like this...

Usually am, [He doesn't see any harm in admitting that-- he's never slept well, and now he's been being a weird homeless stray cat because he can't sleep unless he's dead exhausted because he's so used to sleeping in a line with five other bodies he can't adjust to sleeping alone.]

I'd wager you would look tired if you didn't probably bleed coffee. Care if I sit with you?

It's fine. [ Fushimi says it a little too quick; a little too sharp -- it isn't an inviting agreement at all, but the fact that he says it at all means it's genuine, more or less.

It can't be weirder than petting Ichimatsu, after all. ]

There's -- a quest, or something, for... [ Fushimi looks genuinely pained. ] ...cuddling, if you want to get whatever reward they give for it.

[He doesn't seem bothered, folding to sit about a foot's distance from him with his knees drawn up and his arms folded comfortably around them. He doesn't mind Fushimi's awkward sharpness-- he's generally quiet, taking the time to say things only when it's at least mostly necessary, and Ichimatsu appreciates that.]

[As such, he angles his head toward him when he starts in about the quest, his eyes closed over, and opens them when he brings up cuddling, giving him a quizzical, wider-than-normal-eyed stare.]

...cuddling.

[ Fushimi does not make eye contact. He looks somewhere to the vague left of Ichimatsu, turning faintly pink, because this entire situation is ridiculous and Fushimi damn well knows it, but --

Well! Well. The last few rewards he's gotten have been at least vaguely useful, and they help make the bedroom a little more homey, and they seem to make Yata happy, so why not get more magical knickknacks that chase away nightmares and shit? ]

Yeah. I'm a blue, so I guess if you cuddle me for awhile we... succeed, or whatever...

[ Despite his status as a cactus, Fushimi is pretty good at cuddling once he relaxes. ]

Is the only requirement a blue? 'Cause I am, too, even if I fuckin' hate it.

[As he asks, he uncurls his knees from his chest and crawls right on over, taking the blanket in his lap as an invitation and ducking under his arm to scoot right up to him. He's taking a corner of that blanket, thanks.]

Cuddling is a stupid word, but it's cold, and you've been drinking coffee so you're warm.

[ Everytime Fushimi interacts with Ichimatsu contributes further to Fushimi's assertation that Ichimatsu is literally a cat, and the way Ichimatsu is so quick to curl up definitely helps cement that a little further. ]

I'm never cold. [ That's the good part of having the power of two opposite clans: it's really easy to regulate his body temperature and never be overheated or cold. It's like cheating. ]

I heard they give out more blankets as rewards, so it's useful.

[He's absolutely not wrong. He's a cat with some extreme executive dysfunction, but still basically a cat. He closes his eyes over, inclining his head when Fushimi talks to designate he's heard him.]

...mmn, convenient. Both never being cold and blanket rewards. [Says the cat who to the touch probably feels like he's been outside for days. ...probably because he has, but you know. Who's counting.]
