t's a regular morning here in the Town. The sun isn't shining at all, snow is falling like crazy, and...there may be the sounds of shouts coming from the well, thoroughly muffled. Okay, so it's not a regular morning at all, but you'd better go help those people! The newcomers are here again. Of course, once you get to the well, you'll notice that there's actually no real help you can offer -- it's totally frozen over. As for the newcomers, well... hopefully being suddenly dumped into freezing cold water in the middle of November in a dark, damp well is your idea of a good time, because that's your life now! And that's not even taking into account the mirrors in everyone's homes that are about to wake up and start chattering... Welcome to Awash's thirteenth event log, everyone! Yeah. He's an asshole like that.

[He's not thrilled to hear that, but it's not like he can do anything.]

...what'd your mom have to say about it?

[glaciers]

I didn't really get a lot of time to talk to her growing up. She was around until I was five, then the old man took her away.

Maybe... she was relieved that none of her other kids looked like him. [Shouto seems to thoughtlessly cover his left side with his left hand. A constant reminder of how he looks just like his father from one side.]

[expulsions]

[Aw buddy no....yikes. He didn't mean to keep digging but...man.]

I don't know. You were still hers even if you did look like him. That's gotta outweigh the bad in that. [If his mom disappeared when he was five who tf raised Shouto? His dad? What is wrong with heroes.]

[glaciers]

[Yeah, basically. Enji did a horrible job with his children.]

Maybe. She did say she was worried about taking care of me. Sometimes when she looked at me she could only see my father. She didn't mean to have me hear it, but I was up late.

Living with him... was bad for her. It caused a mental break and that's why she was sent to the hospital. We've only recently started talking again.

I'm sorry. [What do you even say to that?] Where is he now anyway? I mean obviously he's not here, but back there. You guys are separated from him, aren't you?

[glaciers]

... He's the number one hero right now. Since All Might retired.

Not really. Fuyumi still lives at home, Natsuo lives in the college dorms, and I live in UA's dorms. But my house is still technically the one he lives in.

I can't really move out until I have a job.

[expulsions]

Like being a professional hero? [Is that the kind of job people from their world have?] ...what if someone takes over as number one hero instead of your dad? Is that possible?

[glaciers]

Yes. [There are people who don't throw their bodies recklessly into danger, but everybody who is here is either a hero or a hero-in-training.]

Somebody could, it depends on rankings and the public's opinion.

[expulsions]

[He wonders what that's like. Is that a thing that could happen for him and Annabeth, too? Being professional demigods.]

Explain that one to me. People vote for who's number one and it's not based on skill or anything?

[glaciers]

[Maybe? The villains are pretty well known though.]

People vote for their favorite heroes, but the heroes' skill and number of incidents they've deescalated or stopped are also part of the ranking.

[expulsions]

Which one has more weight when it comes to ranking? [Stop trying to figure out how to overthrow Endeavor, Percy.]

[glaciers]

I don't know. I'm not the one that does the rankings.

[expulsions]

Look, all I'm saying is that your dad's probably not gonna stay at number one forever. So hopefully that means things will get better after that.

[glaciers]

There's no way he's going to. There are up and coming heroes every year.

[expulsions]

[There's a half-grin.] ...people try to take over the Olympians' reign all the time and so far it hasn't worked. Come close, but we've always managed to stop them. I'm kinda glad to hear it's not the same everywhere else.

[glaciers]

My old man might be a hero, but he's only human. Besides, he's really only popular with business men and other guys. [And people who are into bears, I guess, but Shouto definitely doesn't want to think about that.]

I think he was number one because he's currently the most powerful hero. And after what happened to All Might, people needed to believe they could still be protected.

[expulsions]

That's a pretty specific niche. [But sure, okay. His expression turns thoughtful then.]

What did happen to All Might? [Shouto's mentioned it and he's curious especially given Izuku's never said anything about it.]

[glaciers]

You're not wrong.

He fought a powerful villain, won and then had to retire due to injuries.

[Which is probably the loosest possible way to say what happened. But it's all still technically true. There's not a lot Shouto knows about All Might's quirk, after all. Except for his intense enduring fan theory that Izuku and All Might had to be related.]

[expulsions]

[Wow. That sounds kind of terrible.]

At least he won. [That's maybe not the most important thing here...] And there's no chance of him ever coming out of retirement?

[glaciers]

[The thing is everybody saw it. Shouto pauses for a moment to remember the very skeletal form of All Might these days.]

No, I don't think so. He looked beaten up. And now he looks like a skeleton.

[expulsions]

[....well. That's fine. He's just going to frown a little in thought.]

Does the All Might that's here know about all of that? Or are there timeline issues, too?

[glaciers]

He's before all of that went down. He jumped out of a window and into a tree to try and hide his identity.
