Event Thirteen.

The cracks of paint and varnish on the brow; Soon to distrust all impulses of flesh That strews its sawdust on the chamber floor, While at the window peer two crones Who once were Juliet and Jessica. | |
Welcome to Awash's thirteenth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post. Please keep in mind that while this is a general event log, it is also an intro log; be sure to pay plenty of attention to our newcomers! |

Better. [He doesn't dare specify if he means better now that she's here or what.] Things here are...you know. About the same as you left them. [A beat.] Are you alright?
no subject
... better, huh. ]
What? Why wouldn't I be? I'm fine. [ Glances at him from under the towel. ] I mean, I just went back to the same situation I came from the first time? It sucked, but it's not like it was any worse.
no subject
We've never really been sure that's exactly where people go, so that is a relief. [He seems to be leading her to somewhere around Ruga. It's the area he knows best.] But waking up in the well still sucks, too. Plus there was the whole ice problem.
no subject
I'm pretty sure it was? Like, it's a fresh memory again. It's the last thing I remember before waking up here, again. [ Can you sense her rolling her eyes, John??? She is. ] Anyway, don't talk to me about that stupid ice. I blame Mr. F for it being an unexpectedly huge pain in the ass.

[ Glances at him, clearly trying not to smile. ]
Tell me you got stuck in something stupid.
no subject
Not exactly, but I made myself look like an idiot anyway. Does that count?

I did help Shouto wander around in a sexy firefighter's costume though.
no subject
Are you serious? Shouto? Wait, how did you help? I need details, John, you can't hold out on me like this!
no subject
I have no idea how it happened, probably a quest reward, but I was minding my own business and he came up to me and was about to bite it because he was in heels and wanted to hold hands. So I prevented him from falling on his ass like a true hero before pawning him back off on Izuku.
no subject
Well. Regardless, Vriska cannot stop laughing at this mental image, her cackles delighted now. ]
Fuck, I can't believe I missed such a golden opportunity for blackmail! ... then again, he probably wouldn't even care if I gave him shit about it, knowing him. [ ::::/ ]
Good thing you were there to save him, and were not at all fucked up or in heels or something else ridiculous that you know I would never let you live down for the rest of your life. Phew! Saved.

The fact of the matter was he had missed being able to casually chat with her like this. For all of the ways John and Vriska weren't alike they shared some things in common like stupid teenage banter and making fun of people they love. Coming here and finding her the first time they arrived in Chroma had been startling and he'd tried to figure out how to deal with her. Then she left and he realized it was a lost opportunity and something he didn't want to fuck up if he got a second chance.
Granted, it's John. He might still fuck up just because they're still two different personalities but for now…it kind of makes him feel hopeful. Happy, maybe.]
He absolutely would not care, that is both admirable and horrible when it comes to him. But you could have made fun of everybody else. [A flash of a grin. They're almost to one of the empty buildings by now. This is apparently where he's going to contain the breeze to air-dry her.] People were acting pretty ridiculous. Definitely not me though.
no subject
Vriska wraps the towel like a damp, fluffy scarf around her neck, but it doesn't hide her fangy grin. ]
I know, right? How is he so stoic, and yet so nice?? It is a total mystery to us all, except for Midoriya, I guess. [ A beat, and: ] Think he'd die on the spot if I asked him?
Anyway, right, we already agreed on that, John. Try and keep up. Obviously I'm not going to pump everyone who knows you for information about something that never happened!
no subject
Vriska might have done a lot of terrible things, but he can still remember getting along with her, sharing things with her and what it's like to be in her good graces.]
I wish I knew. Do it anyway and report back with results. For science. [He grins, and then they venture into the building. At least it's dry and quiet and John floats back a few steps.]
Obviously. [Even as he's talking though he's concentrating to make low-level whirlwinds, sped up enough to warm the air but not enough to knock her over while he tries to help dry her off. It's a lot of focus but he's Trying.] You've actually missed a lot since last time. It has been a weird couple of months.
no subject
But that's all distant from this moment, where she's grinning and giving him a mocking salute. ]
Of course. Purely for science.
[ Vriska will pull the towel away and let it drop to the floor once they step inside. The rush of wind makes her smile, and she'll stretch out her hands to move them through the loops and whorls of warm air. ]
Haha, cool. You've gotten much better at this whole windy thing since the last time I checked in with you. [ There's some nostalgia, there. ]
Then tell me what I've missed out on! I am kind of banking on hearing the same information from enough people to actually put together a complete picture.
no subject
I have had a lot more time to practice here believe it or not. [If it weren't for Vriska, actually, he wouldn't have even gone godtier. That's a weird thing to think about.] I can do all kinds of cool stuff now.
[But even so, she's not wrong. People are going to update her regardless so he's thinking of where to start.] As you probably noticed we brought color back to the well? Also when you get a chance you should check out the post Mr. F puts all of the quests each month because the story's getting bigger. I have a post to show you from Dextera, too, you might be interested in about a ghost they found in the woods.
no subject
But she blinks her eyes open again and smiles, and maybe that never happened at all. ]
You will have to show me everything you've learned when we get a chance.
[ As to his frankly startling amount of information, Vriska is quiet, and blinks once or twice as she mentally sorts through this brand new list of priorities. ]
Shit. Okay. I will check out the forum once I get a chance, so let's table that for now. Yes, I noticed the well, and I'd like to ask if there's a specific event you can link to that, but first! Tell me about this ghost, and then we can go over Dextera's post.
no subject
Okay. So the ghost thing was mentioned in Dextera's post. You know Guren? He and Dextera went into the woods and found this ghost-lady who made them do a test or something, but she rewarded them with a prize. They ended up walking away with a journal that was written by someone who was here way before us. The general idea is that the town's districts used to be a lot more segregated, I guess, and trying to mingle was almost impossible. The woods used to be a lot less dangerous and monster-infested, too. But the author started talking about how the color was fading from the town and the people in it. Their personalities got wiped, too. Apparently the guy's best friend also disappeared around that time and that's all he wrote.
So…the town's kind of fucked up is what I am saying, I guess. The post has some good theories and stuff on it, too.
no subject
Otherwise she listens to him quite seriously, bright-eyed (for as much as a ghost can have bright eyes) and attentive. ]
I can't say any of this surprises me. This journal was a good find. Having the lore surrounding this experiment or game or whatever the fuck it is tells us what kind of story it is! What parts we are supposed to play. And this is a more classic story than I was expecting, to be honest with you. Kind of stereotypical.
[ vriska don't criticize the metaplot. ]
I will check it out. Honestly, I will probably ask Dextera himself what he thinks so he can just tell me. I would like to see him, anyway. So tell me about the well! What happened?
no subject
But he'd probably be willing to share, so sure. [The well though...] You should ask Okuyasu about the well and the people he took down there. Dave came home after that field trip and he was sort of a zombie so something happened, but it's worth checking in. But also the well is bright red. Who do you think fixed it? [Idiot...] One of the quest rewards last month was the ability to restore the color of anything, but for once we got to pick.
[It's why all of the doors in Chroma are John's blue now. Great.]
no subject
[ after a pause, somehwat musingly: ] You know, I was wondering why the well was such an obnoxious, eye-searing shade of red. I should have guessed Dave was involved. However, I am going to go ahead and make the logical assumption that the well wasn't borderline neon originally, because who the fuck builds a bright red well? Which gives rise to the next question: was doing that really the same as "restoring" color? Why did Mr. F or whoever the hell decide to do it that way?
[ The last two questions are really just musing aloud. ]
no subject
You mean is there a difference between restoring the original color and adding new color to it ourselves? I've been wondering the same thing. This isn't the first time one of the quest rewards was giving color back, but it was the first that we had any idea what we were doing.
I'm also sort of wondering how much Mr. F really has control over what's happening here in the first place.
