Event Thirteen.

The cracks of paint and varnish on the brow; Soon to distrust all impulses of flesh That strews its sawdust on the chamber floor, While at the window peer two crones Who once were Juliet and Jessica. | |
Welcome to Awash's thirteenth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post. Please keep in mind that while this is a general event log, it is also an intro log; be sure to pay plenty of attention to our newcomers! |

I don't know what the common thread between them is. I only know mine is wrong.
[Sure he doesn't like being alone, but it's not like he actually is alone in Awash.]
no subject
Well, mine was saying things like -- 'I'm stupid, I don't know what to do unless I have orders, all I want to do is please people.' Stuff like that. So different from yours. But I guess they're both pretty depressing ... maybe we're supposed to cheer them up?
[ Jion glances at the mirror version of Valvatorez once more, reluctantly curious. His first impression of Valvatorez had been so pompous and confident, it's a little weird seeing that lonely mirror version. ]
no subject
Do you think any of those things are true? [Tact? What's tact?]
Well, mirror me, what will make you happy?
["I miss Fenrich and Artina." Mirror Val sound so quiet and despondent, wrapping his cape around him almost as comfort.
Real Val just puts his face in his palm.]
They weren't in the well so we won't be getting that.
no subject
Well, um. You’re not wrong, that they weren’t in the well, but ... you’ll be able to see them again, I’m sure? [ He talks gently at the mirror. ] I know people have been stuck here for a few months, but they can’t keep us here forever, and I’m sure we’ll find a way out eventually! And then you’ll be able to see your, uh — [ friends? coworkers? minions? ] — see those people again! Right?
[ Jion looks to Valvatorez for confirmation. ]
no subject
Exactly! Even if we don't see them right now, we'll see them again eventually. There's no reason to dwell on what we cannot change.
[Unless... Unless they can some how affect the well and what it brings in. That's for another time. For now he's got this mirror version of himself to deal with.
"I miss them right now," again, a much softer voice than the one Val normally uses. "I don't want to wait. We've been alone for so long..." He whines.]
no subject
That does sound tough. But if you’ve been alone a long time, then that means you’ve already survived it? So you know you’ll be able to hold on just a bit longer, until you can see them again? And, um ...
[ This is hard. Jion looks at Valvatorez and perks up a little bit, as if connecting some dots. ]
— look at this version of you! He’s holding on fine, right? So you should be able to do the same! [ Right??? Another glance at Val to confirm he hasn’t said anything wrong. ]
no subject
I am not lonely. [He says it with full conviction. If he says something, he means it. No matter what the Val in the mirror says.]
no subject
Um. Well. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with missing people? It’s pretty natural to want to miss people, but I also get why you wouldn’t want to say it out loud, because sometimes that just makes it feel worse because you can’t take your mind off it? [ Pause. Does that imply too heavily that Val is lonely? He hurries to add, ] — and sometimes you really don’t miss people, that’s true too! Um, some people can just wait patiently, and I think that’s also fair. It’s just different for everyone?
no subject
I don't miss them.
[Which is immediately undercut by, "Liar. We've been alone 2100 years and you miss all of them. You miss Fenrich trying to get you to drink human blood. You miss Fuka's stubbornness. You miss seeing all the progress Emizel's made. You miss raising Desco." There's a pause before he mentions the last person, "You miss Artina the most."]
Don't be ridiculous, I don't miss any of them. And if I did I would never miss one of them over the others.
no subject
[ This is kind of stressful to be around, and Jion protests fretfully. ]
Um, look. Valvatorez? I don't think there's anything wrong with missing your friends. I think it'd actually be kinda mean if you're really saying you don't miss your friends even a little bit. They're your friends for a reason, right? And two thousand years, geez, that's a long time.
But, uh, you -- [ looking at the mirror ] -- also gotta understand that sometimes you miss people, but you just have to live with it. Because there's stuff going on, and you can't see those people until you've dealt with things. That's just how things are, right? So there's, um, a middle ground here. So please don't argue.
[ That last bit was obviously his main goal. Because if Val has no choice but to argue with his mirror, that makes him kinda nervous about how he'll have to deal with his own mirror. ]
no subject
They're my comrades and they wouldn't want me to worry about them. Besides, I trust them to deal with whatever issues arise on their own. They don't need me to miss them.
["We've already dealt with everything. We stopped god from destroying the Earth. I just want to be with them."]
no subject
Oh my god.
[ There's so much going on here. He's still pretty embarrassed, face a little red even as he drags his hand away from his face and tries to feign calm. ]
Um, okay. I, uh, don't think that's the point of missing people? It's not like you miss people for their benefit. And ... [ He was going to ask what the mirror meant about stopping god, but on second thought, he's not sure he wants to know right now. ] ... can't you just agree to disagree? It seems exhausting, just fighting with each other like that.
no subject
Why would it be exhausting?
no subject
Because ... because you have to keep saying the same thing over and over without anything changing? Like, you can't keep telling a fish to breathe on land, that's not going to change anything. That's why it's exhausting?
[ Please don't say 'saying the same thing over and over isn't exhausting at all.' ]
no subject
Saying the same thing over and over isn't exhausting at all.
no subject
... alright. [ This is giving him a headache. Jion ponders for a moment, hand rubbing at his temple before venturing very tentatively, ] Are you, like, having fun with this? Arguing with him?
no subject
[And he can and will argue with himself for hours.]
no subject
[ He can't believe he ever thought Valvatorez was cool, this almost feels like a betrayal. ]
... can't you just cover up the mirror so you can't hear it any more? And then he can't argue, so you won? Or do you not count that.
no subject
Don't ever think this old man is cool, Jion. He's just a demon who likes sardines.]
The mirror will show up again if I just leave it somewhere. I'd rather know where it is than have it complaining to strangers.
Covering it might muffle it's voice, but it'll still be convinced I'm alone here.
