QUEST 32

Minato;

[scooptimistic]

[ So Minato is probably dying in some way, shape, or form. But that doesn't seem to have made it to Maya, who's all smiles and cheer as she knocks on his door, one hand held behind her back. ]

Minato-kun! Are you in?

[messianic]

[Yep.

Minato is Dying.

It came out of nowhere--one minute he was fine, and then he was collapsed in bed, shivering from a fever.

So.

Maya's going to have to come in on her own! The door's open, though...]

[scooptimistic]

[ That's... promising... ]

Hello...??

[ And as she steps in, she's looking around, a little more concerned now. ]

Minato-kun? Hellooooooo??

[messianic]

[Minato is...coughing!! Coughing up gunk, even, maybe.

And already huddled under a blanket on the couch.

Ughghghhhh.]

... Maya-san...? [He sounds like he's smoked 10 cigarettes in the past hour.]

Ochako;

[ Of course when you think about people to be grateful for, you think of your roommate, right? Or at least, that's what Maya's thinking.

But Ochako hasn't been feeling well lately, which has really just made Maya want to hurry up on her little gift. Finally, she knocks on her door. ]

Ochako-chan? Are you awake?

[thriftea]

[Ochako is honestly just stretched out on the floor of her room, idly poking Busta Rabbit's side and sniffling pitifully, when she hears that sudden knock on her door. It's always nice to see Maya! It's always nice to hang out with Maya, but as she stands, blinks her blurry eyes, and sneezes... ah, yes: she definitely feels like Death.]

Y-Yeah! One— [ACHOO!] One second!

[She tries to keep her voice as peppy as usual, but as she opens that door and peeps out at her roommate, it's... obvious that's something's wrong? Puffy eyes, sniffly nose, splotchy cheeks—even the smile she gives her friend can't hide all of that.]

Do you need something, Maya-san?

[scooptimistic]

O-Ochako-chan...

[ Maya is trying very, very hard not to look stunned, alarmed, or put-off, though the fact that she has to struggle for any of this is not all that promising for either of them. ]

Are you... okay? You kind of look like you're dying.

[ SUBTLE. ]

[Those icons back-to-back are absolutely killing me. Ochako blinks back at Maya for a moment, sniffling, before reaching up to sheepishly rub the back of her head.]

It's that bad?

[Uh, yeah? Even her voice sounds scratchy and disgusting, but she's careful to keep her smile in place. Causing other people to worry about her is FORBIDDEN.]

I-I mean, I must look worse than I feel! It's just a cold, Maya-san. I'm fine!

[But that is totally unconvincing, especially when she has to turn away and sneeze two—no, three more times. And then hobble over to her desk to grab a handkerchief. And then blow her nose so loudly that Busta scurries under the bed to hide.]

Nov. 4

As soon as Tonbokiri saw the new quests the evening of the 3rd, he knew exactly to whom he wanted to show his appreciation to. But the question was, how.
Usually he would ask for advice, but he felt like this quest was directing him to do it entirely himself. So he thought it over carefully overnight, and finally settled on something the afternoon of the next day. Once the necessary materials were granted to him, he made his way to Maya-dono’s home.

Without hesitation he comes up and knocks on the door, one hand carefully holding the gift, plainly wrapped in greyscale cloth. (He perhaps should have asked for a proper furoshiki, too! But he’s glad with what he got.)

“Pardon the imposition, but is Maya-dono at home?”

It takes a minute for Maya to move, even longer for her to actually make it to the door, and when she appears...

Well. She looks like she just dragged herself off the couch after a particularly long hard night of getting sick to her stomach and tossing and turning. She's very pale, her hair's disheveled, and when she speaks, her voice emerges in a thin croak.

"Present. Hi, Tonbokiri."

This was not at all what he expected, and it shows clearly in his shocked reaction.

"Amano-dono! What happened? Please, return back inside and lie down. I am sorry for intruding upon you at this time. Is there anything I can do for you...?"

He offers, although he doesn't really know what to do with sick humans. But he can at least make her as comfortable as possible!

"I could bring you some blankets?"

[scooptimistic]

"Huh? Oh, no, I'm fine now..."

She's not fine, given the fact that she's kind of heavily slumping against the door frame now, but at least she's smiling. So maybe she is fine?

"What brings you here?"

She's not fine, she's growing paler by the minute. Good job, Maya.

QUEST 33

Cairngorm;

[scooptimistic]

[ The thought's already on her mind when she sees the quest, though not so much the execution of it. But that's okay, she thinks. Surely someone in this town must be super excited to track down a mythical creature and solve some seemingly impossible question.

... Besides her. But even if no one looks remotely enthused, or at least no one she's run into yet, she's brightening when she spots a familiar face. They haven't talked in awhile, but-- ]

Cairngorm! Ciao! Got a minute??

[ This poor rock. ]

[ A familiar voice! Though not super familiar, they still turn at the sound of their name, raising a brow dully. ]

Maya... [ They saw her briefly at that party for Lupin, not that they talked with her, or even thought about going out of their way to do so. They're honestly a little surprised she calls out to them. ] What is it?

[scooptimistic]

What are your thoughts about plunging into the deepest depths of the woods to get riddled by a monster?

[ ... well, at least she's blunt about it. Though still beaming. ]

[ Unfortunately, they can't tell that she's referring to the quest here... so they wrinkle their nose and make a face. ]

What? Why would I ever want to do that.

[ Catch this extremely flat look Maya. ]

[ The best way to find someone to go on quests with is not to go ask all of her friends like a sensible person, or even check the forum to see who's looking for takers-- it's to go stand by the edge of the wood and hope someone else will also be standing by the woods and--

... Actually, there is someone. Wow. ]

Oh, hey!

[Let's be honest, he was probably considering going off by himself if he couldn't dig up anyone else to come along, even though he isn't red-- but fortunately that's not happening today. Ryan glances up at the sound of her voice, then quickly brightens a bit, giving her a little wave.]

Hey-- were you thinking about heading in, too?

[Clearly no one can get annoyed with him as long as he has company, it'll be fine.]

Sure was!

[ Yes, sorry Ryan, that probably won't save you. ]

I was thinking that the Sphinx quest sounded interesting! Among other things.

QUEST 33

[ dextera wants to spend time with maya, and now that he’s feeling a little more like himself, what better way to do that than go on a quest that seems mostly harmless?

he’s used to riddle-like problems being posed, though usually they go without answers, so he’ll see what he can do here. the sphinx wouldn’t give them something unanswerable, right? ]

Are you good at riddles?

[ as they move into the forest. ]

It's right up there with poetry for me! I love puzzles and riddles.

[ And this will probably be nowhere near as bad as trying to puzzle her way out of a bunker. This is exactly why Maya's pretty much bouncing as she walks. ]

[ initially, dextera is surprised, but after a moment to think about it, he supposes it’s not really that strange. maya does have a good head on her shoulders, for as silly as she can be.

he nods. ]

I like “tactile” puzzles.

[ he’s the type of person that could sit down with a jigsaw puzzle and be entertained for hours. he likes games. ]

Riddles are… more difficult.

Well, look at it this way.

[ Maya taps a finger to her chin, glancing ahead as they progress deeper. She still doesn't like these woods, but at least this isn't a "fight something to the death" kind of quest.

Hopefully. ]

The minute you solve a riddle successfully, you're already preparing yourself for the next one you face. You learn how to navigate them, since a lot of the time, the riddle itself gives you at least two clues.

And if nothing else, you've got a powerful ally this time around! A very humble powerful ally.
