[Closed] Lupin's Birthday Mingle!

What: Akechi and Akira throw Lupin a birthday party! It's... probably somewhere around his birthday, right?

[Akechi and Akira have dragged a few of the decorations from the harvest festival into the cafe: some hay-bails, some flowers, a few pumpkins (but not the weird effigy). They've laid out a few treats, including the white chocolate kit-kats Akira got from trick-or-treating, coffee that he's made, and a cake - one made with easily obtainable ingredients and a substitute for flour. It actually looks a bit misshapen, but Akira did his best.

They've invited just a few people for this, so it's not a very big party, but Akira hopes they'll have fun none the less. He wants this to be a great day for Lupin, since he can't celebrate at home with his friends. Akechi has pitched in just as much, wanting to give his housemate a great party to return the favor from a few months ago.

It's not exactly a surprise party, though it's still clear he hasn't exactly told Lupin what's up as he guides him into the cafe. Somehow he doesn't think he'll mind the attention, though.

Wouldn't that use up too much of your spices? Since our supplies are so limited and there's no way to tell when we'll get a chance to replenish them, it would be more prudent to exercise parsimony...

A flattering thought, but it would be far too selfish of you to grant me that kind of special privilege because of our relationship-- and ill-advised business practice, too. I suppose I need to keep your terrible ways in check.

[He doesn't sell it in the cafe - it would be too hard to keep the food stored properly all on his own.]

Then, how about we save it for a truly special occasion? Since it's your own recipe, we should follow your own idea of what an anniversary should be like, and only use it then.

[ So, in a year's time? Guess that's it, they gotta break up before then... ]

[Akira arches his eyebrows - he can't help but be amused.]

An extra-special anniversary dish, huh? Alright.

[He nods in agreement.]

We'll have it in five months, then.

A proper anniversary should be held in a year. Then again, this might be your way of implying you plan on being done with me before then, haha...!

I said my perspective changed. Besides, what if my ingredients go bad before a year?

Whether it has changed or not, I would feel better knowing we can compromise on this much. And I'm fairly sure dried spices have considerably long shelf lives, at least for a couple of years. There will be plenty of time to use them.

[ Take the compromise, Akira. Give him several months to prepare. ]

(He never planned on feeding Akechi the Volcano anyway, but now that he's decided to compromise, guess he'll have to hold up his end of the deal!)]

[ Bold of you to assume Akechi won't try to find a way to get away with it in a year. If hiding all the ingredients is what it takes, he'll do it! ]

Very well. It's a date.

[ A date scheduled a year in advance... There's so much that can happen in that window of time. Are they still going to be here in a year? And whether in Chroma or back in Tokyo, will they still be together, despite their opposing paths? It's impossible to tell.

And yet somehow, right now Akechi feels confident about it, not with absolute certainty, but just enough to lift the dark veil over his heart. Is this... hope? ]

I'd suggest we seal it with a kiss, but we have company at the moment. Instead, would it be too drastic to go for a blood oath?

[ Weird choice of words, isn't it. ]

[It's not like Lupin doesn't already know they're dating! And Akira isn't entirely sure what Akechi means by that, anyway. He's just not sure how interested he is in anything with the word "blood" in the title...]

How about we just pencil it in on our calendars?

[ Lupin may know about it, but everybody else doesn't! And either way, they shouldn't be doing any scandalous displays of affection in public! Akechi is a Good and Proper Boy! ]

Calling it a calendar is a bit too loose in this place, isn't it?

[ But it's friendly teasing, and he's laughing at the idea, anyway. Not in mockery, though, just... happy. ]

But, that's just as well. I wouldn't forget something like that.

[ Because it's Important, after all. ]

[And he grins, then reaches out and takes Akechi's hand, giving it a squeeze.]

Ready to go back to the party? Everyone's going to start wondering about us.

[They are the hosts, after all.]

[ Oh, Akira, what did he just say about scandalous displays of affection... Still, he does return the hand squeeze with a smile of his own. ]

I wouldn't mind staying with just you for a while longer.

[ Flirtatious? Sure. But he's honest, too. It's not that he doesn't enjoy everyone else's company, but as happy as he is to be around these unlikely friends, he can't deny the fluttery, giddy feeling he gets with Akira is... something else. ]

But, I suppose you're right. It's not much of a party without the hosts, correct?
