[Closed] Lupin's Birthday Mingle!

What: Akechi and Akira throw Lupin a birthday party! It's... probably somewhere around his birthday, right?

[Akechi and Akira have dragged a few of the decorations from the harvest festival into the cafe: some hay-bails, some flowers, a few pumpkins (but not the weird effigy). They've laid out a few treats, including the white chocolate kit-kats Akira got from trick-or-treating, coffee that he's made, and a cake - one made with easily obtainable ingredients and a substitute for flour. It actually looks a bit misshapen, but Akira did his best.

They've invited just a few people for this, so it's not a very big party, but Akira hopes they'll have fun none the less. He wants this to be a great day for Lupin, since he can't celebrate at home with his friends. Akechi has pitched in just as much, wanting to give his housemate a great party to return the favor from a few months ago.

It's not exactly a surprise party, though it's still clear he hasn't exactly told Lupin what's up as he guides him into the cafe. Somehow he doesn't think he'll mind the attention, though.

Mm. Well, "-san" is used for formality, and "senpai" is what you'd call someone in a higher position than you. Technically!

[ he's actually never even asked about these suffixes, so he learned something today!! ]

Hmmm... It's cute, but I think that'd get embarrassing pretty quickly.

For one of us. [ which she's sure is what he meant, as she grins. ]

But that's fine. I don't mind just calling you Lupin.

[ it is what he meant, as he has a sneaking suspicion that Maya doesn't actually have a sense of shame. ]

That'll do. I should tell Minato and Akechi to stop calling me "san" too, then...

[ he never knew exactly what it meant before!! ]

... Ah, in Minato-kun's case... that's probably a good idea. He wouldn't really change on his own.

Right? Somehow, he's really relaxed and really formal at the same time. I don't know how he manages. [ Lupin shrugs. ] I suppose that's one of his charm points, though.

That's true! Just don't hit on him, okay?

[ he laughs at that, waving a hand dismissively. honestly, Lupin's never once looked at him that way... and is also not about to start. ]

Don't worry - he's not my type. But he is an excellent friend.

You're not wrong there. He's a good kid. He kind of reminds me of the kids I used to know.

I think he's a little too mature to be called a kid, don't you?

[ although Lupin has probably also called him that in the past. Nonetheless, he looks at Maya with a raised eyebrow, seeming amused. ]

Wait, I see it now. You're the motherly type. That's why you're so resistant...

[ And look, if you're under 18, you're a kid to Maya. ]

Is that what it is? Hmmm...

[ he doesn't have either one, so maybe his read was off... Lupin rubs his chin, studying Maya as if looking for big sister traits, then shrugs. ]

Big sisterly type, then. Either way, you like doting on people.

Guilty as charged. I mean, I like encouraging them to think for themselves and look forward too, so it's not... too much doting.

[ But she definitely dotes. ]

Well, I may be your elder, but since it's my birthday, maybe you can dote on me for once.

[ a wink. he knows you're hiding something behind you, maya!! ]

I can do that. [ but then she smiles, mischievously. ]

Close my eyes?

[ he gives her a curious look - more trying to guess what she's going to do and hoping it isn't what he's imagining than being confused. For the briefest second, his eyes flick over surreptitiously to the booth where Cairngorm's planted themself. ]

I'm kindly requesting that you don't give me a surprise kiss as a present. [ but he listens!! eyes are closed. ]

... I could be incredibly offended by that, but I wasn't planning on being a smooth criminal today.

[ Here, Lupin, there's something small being placed in your hand now. ]

[heartsteals]

Don't be, [ he replies, eyes still closed, with a note of self-deprecating amusement. ] I'm more the fool for saying it to a woman as lovely as you.

[ he would have probably said something closer to "I hope you got me a kiss" if this had been just a month earlier and they were alone, but Lupin's not the type to keep playing dumb around his own feelings for that long. Not that he thought there was much of a chance of Maya actually doing that... but also, they do flirt with each other a decent amount, so he thought he'd better play it safe.

When she puts something in his hand, he's quick to close his fingers around it, trying to figure out what it is. ]

Can I look yet?

Kisses are something special, I know. I don't think it makes you foolish.

But go ahead!

[ It's a little Lupin plush! Not exactly Etsy material, but recognizable enough with a little tophat sewed on. The material's all grey though, so Maya has to add-- ]

I have no idea what colors it will turn out to be, so sorry in advance if they clash.

No, that's not it, exactly...

[ not that kisses aren't special, but he'd totally kiss Maya... if he didn't have someone else he would rather kiss and is planning on pursuing at the moment. Such is the life of the romantic gentleman thief. That's not what matters right now, anyway! He opens his eyes and looks a little taken aback by the tiny replica suddenly sitting in his hands. No wonder he couldn't figure out what he was holding. ]

[ he seems pretty entertained by the present, moving to tuck it into his breast pocket so the head and arms peek out over the rim. He's learning a lot about his friends' hidden talents today... ]
