awashlogs | Event Twelve

I am a reaper whose muscles set at sundown.
All my oats are cradled.
But I am too chilled,
and too fatigued to bind them.
And I hunger.

ou know what's probably amazing? Waking up to your previously normal front door suddenly being covered by a huge, autumn-themed wreath. Or perhaps you're close enough to the center of the Town to look out your window and get an eyeful of that effigy, staring soullessly at you?

The point is, there's a festival going on! The Town's been decorated accordingly (don't trip over sudden bales of hay), and towards the center of the Town, there are all sorts of fun games, tables of food, and other amazing things set up. Go prance onto the stage, sample some of the amazing food, convince one of your friends to play one of those bobbing for apples games...

Enjoy it! There doesn't seem to be much of a catch this time.

(At least, not until you eat the food, and then you'll figure out just what that "catch" is.)

...don't tell Shiho that, okay?

[Because Shiho is terrified of ghosts.

She's doing her best not to laugh. It has nothing to do with the situation or his costume though.]

Besides Chisato and Touno I don't think I've met any of my friends normally back home. The first time I met Shiho she threw me over her shoulder and threatened to break my arm.

[ Oh, is Shiho afraid of ghosts? Or did a ghost try to eat her too, once? Ari can respect that either way. Ghosts can be pretty spooky. ]

> "Oh, I see..."

[ He smiles under the costume. ]

> "I guess if I think about it, I met all my friends in weird ways too."

[ Some in really weird ways. ]

You too? We should compare notes. I met some of my friends in really weird ways.

[...why does make it sound like something to brag about?]

[ Maybe they should! Ari nods, open to the idea. ]

> "We could go sit over there and talk, if you want."

[ He gestures toward a nearby bale of hay with his free hand, since she's still clinging to his other arm. ]

[She looks to where he's pointing.]

That's a great idea!

[And so she pulls him in that direction!]

[ Ari stumbles thanks to the heels he's wearing, unused to walking in them, but fortunately he's able to regain his balance before Kaoru drags him straight into a faceplant.

They make it to the bale of hay without incident, and Ari is able to sit down at last. His feet kind of hurt. ]

> "So, um. Do you want to start?"

[ What's some of the weird ways she's met people? ]

I met one of my friends after she kidnapped our caretaker to pick a fight with us. The next time we met she was robbing a bank.

[ Ari nods. That is pretty strange. ]

> "One of mine was sealed inside a magic bottle for three hundred years. When my family let him out, he broke a curse on my sister in exchange for me becoming his slave."

[ Stan is his master, but also his friend. Ari has a key item to prove it. ]

Okay. I have to say that has all of mine beat!

Why was he sealed inside a bottle?

> "He's the reincarnation of the Great Evil King Gohma, who destroyed half the world. So they sealed him away in a magic bottle to keep him from taking over everything. My dad found the bottle near the side of the road."

[ Ari isn't sure how it got there, when Rosalyn originally kicked it off of a mountaintop, but who knows? Maybe it doesn't really matter. ]

> "It's okay, though, Stan didn't actually end up taking over the world."

[ Though the last time Ari saw him, he had declared his intentions to. ]

Maybe he just needed a chance to not be evil.

[Sounds perfectly legit to her.]

He reminds me of Kyousuke a little...but he came out of an actual prison instead of a bottle.

[ Ari knows that Stan would be so mad if he heard her say that. He'd throw a grand tantrum, insisting that he's not not-evil, in fact he's the MOST EVIL BEING IN EXISTENCE!!! Correct her foolish misunderstanding at once, slave!!

And yet, even if he can hear the command in his mind as clearly as if Stan was actually here, he's not. Technically, he can't make Ari do anything. ]

> "I think he still wants to take over the world. He's just... kind of bad at it?"

[ The boy smiles, sheepishly, under his costume. ]

> "You can't point out when he does nice things, otherwise he just gets mad."

[She smiles.]

He sounds more and more like Kyousuke. He's even a tsundere like him.

> "Really? Is your friend an Evil King too?"

[ Ari asks, genuinely curious. ]

No, but he does like calling himself Black Fallen Angel and he's the leader of a criminal organization.

> "That sounds pretty similar."

[ Maybe not in any technical sense, but Ari thinks so anyway. Good ol' villainous friends who aren't actually as bad as they want to seem. ]

> "What are your other friends like?"

[It amuses her to think of Hyoubu as an Evil King.]

Well, you've met Shiho. Our other childhood friend is called Aoi, she's really smart and cute! She's very dependable and she gets the best test scores out of the three of us. The three of us have been friends since we were five!

> "Yeah, Shiho is nice."

[ Ari is completely sincere about that, by the way.

As Kaoru continues, he nods. ]

> "Is she here too?"

She is, isn't she? [Everyone should think Shiho is nice!]

No. [She's still smiling even though she really, really misses Aoi.] It's probably better this way. Someone has to stay and keep Minamoto company.
