awashlogs | Event Twelve

I am a reaper whose muscles set at sundown.
All my oats are cradled.
But I am too chilled,
and too fatigued to bind them.
And I hunger.

ou know what's probably amazing? Waking up to your previously normal front door suddenly being covered by a huge, autumn-themed wreath. Or perhaps you're close enough to the center of the Town to look out your window and get an eyeful of that effigy, staring soullessly at you?

The point is, there's a festival going on! The Town's been decorated accordingly (don't trip over sudden bales of hay), and towards the center of the Town, there are all sorts of fun games, tables of food, and other amazing things set up. Go prance onto the stage, sample some of the amazing food, convince one of your friends to play one of those bobbing for apples games...

Enjoy it! There doesn't seem to be much of a catch this time.

(At least, not until you eat the food, and then you'll figure out just what that "catch" is.)

[WHY IS SHE BEING TACKLED AND DRAGGED??? She can't really fight back, but she can try to get a word in, right?]

Ah, um, that is.. if you could give me a moment...?

[She can try to get a word in, but Ochako's hold on her somehow continues to tighten. Maribelle is surprisingly soft, and this hug is Serious Business.]

Oh, are you busy? Take as much time as you need! I don't think the food is going anywhere.

[And neither is Ochako. Hmm!]

[HELP]

... Are you drunk? It's all right if you are, I won't tell.

[Her? Drunk? That's ridiculous, and she absolutely has to giggle.]

No way! I haven't had anything to drink yet, but I was going to look for some water before you showed up. I've been eating a caramel apple and it feels like my teeth are glued together!

[HMM!!! But at least she's, like, pulling Maribelle back toward the table in an awkward little shuffle. Progress?]

[Okay, maybe once they actually get TO the table she'll be released, so Mari stops resisting, with a sigh.]

Make sure not to eat too many sweets today, all right?

So I won't get sick, right? It's nice of you to think about me, but I'll okay! Really! Eating sweets is the best part.

[The awkward shuffling will mercifully come to an end when they finally reach the table, at which point Ochako finally releases Maribelle! ...Kind of! She makes sure to keep an arm around Maribelle's shoulders as she, like, tugs her down on the bench beside her. Friendship is so wonderful...]

You're going to eat some, too, right?

[She's just going to slide a plate full of stuff riiiiiight over...]

[Mari sits down, eyeing the arm. She's not getting out of this anytime soon, is she?]

Er... our of curiosity, what have you been eating?

[So she can avoid it.]

[NOPE. Ochako's arm is there to stay, but she uses her free hand to pick up the other half of her caramel apple.]

This! It looks great, right? Do you want to try it?

[She inches it closer to poor Maribelle's face. I'm sorry, Mari. Really.]

Here! Take a bite!

[Weird attitude aside, GERMS!!!]

I... would rather take one you haven't bitten into, if it's available...

[Hey, what's a few germs shared between friends?? Ochako doesn't see anything wrong with that, actually, but she simply shrugs and reaches for an untouched apple. Ta-da!]

You must be really hungry if you want one all to yourself! It's a good thing there are so many sitting around.

[And this time she'll place the apple on a plate right in front of Maribelle. Now there's really NO EXCUSE!!]

[Relieved, she takes it, and takes a small bite...]

... Oh! These are actually quite sweet!

[Ochako smiles, genuinely happy that her friend likes the treat, before picking up her half-eaten apple and taking another bite. Good sweets, good friends... what a good day...]

They are, aren't they? But they'll glue your teeth together if you're not careful!

Then we'll just limit ourselves to one, shan't we?

[She says while obliviously taking Ochako's hand.]
