awashlogs | Event Twelve

I am a reaper whose muscles set at sundown.
All my oats are cradled.
But I am too chilled,
and too fatigued to bind them.
And I hunger.

ou know what's probably amazing? Waking up to your previously normal front door suddenly being covered by a huge, autumn-themed wreath. Or perhaps you're close enough to the center of the Town to look out your window and get an eyeful of that effigy, staring soullessly at you?

The point is, there's a festival going on! The Town's been decorated accordingly (don't trip over sudden bales of hay), and towards the center of the Town, there are all sorts of fun games, tables of food, and other amazing things set up. Go prance onto the stage, sample some of the amazing food, convince one of your friends to play one of those bobbing for apples games...

Enjoy it! There doesn't seem to be much of a catch this time.

(At least, not until you eat the food, and then you'll figure out just what that "catch" is.)

[ They spot Ari in a common area of this harvest festival, and they can't help but be Mildly Concerned over that outfit, especially in this weather. Their outfit also doesn't look the warmest, but they completely unbothered by the chilly air, just crossing their arms and giving the other and questioning glance. ]

Aren't you cold in that?

[ They say so, as if he has any choice in the matter. ]

[ Ari usually gets overlooked by most people, thanks to his weak sense of presence, so it figures that now he would draw attention—right when it's the most embarrassing.

He is embarrassed, but it's kind of hard to tell under the sheet he's wearing. ]

> "Oh, um... yes, I am. But the costume won't come off?"

[ He worries that they might think he's wearing this by choice, but... oh, are they wearing a weird costume too? That makes him feel a tiny bit better. ]

[ They want to say, well, yeah, obviously, since everyone's in that boat, but they hold themself back (thankfully). Their eyes narrow slightly as they look over the costume, putting a gloved hand at their hip. ]

Can't you just put other clothes on top of it, then? [ This is obvious? At least, that's how they talk. ] Or is that not possible, either.

[ Now that they think of it, they hadn't exactly attempted that solution... ]

[ That's a good idea, but unfortunately... ]

> "I tried, but it didn't really work."

[ It was hard to pull his pants on over the high heeled shoes he's wearing, but the slide of fabric against his stockings felt so wrong he abandoned the whole idea. And he's already wearing something ~~embarrassing~~ under the sheet, so that didn't work either. ]

> "Are you stuck in yours too?"

That would seem to be the case...

[ BIG sigh. They're not particularly in the mood to try and make a show of attempting to take it off to prove it— besides, their own costume is nowhere near as bad as his. ]

Did it not occur to you to stay inside? It doesn't look like the weather's going to let up. [ Their tone is a bit scolding, not that they particularly mean for it to be. ] Or are you just that concerned with participating in this festival.

> "I was hoping someone might know how to take it off."

[ Ari admits, although that plan has been a bust so far. For one, he belatedly realized that it means he'll have to approach people and ask—which is embarrassing in and of itself.

Ari tilts his head to one side, curious. ]

> "Why didn't you stay home, if you don't like yours either?"

I honestly doubt you'll be able to take it off, at least for a while.

[ So you should give up on that plan is what they're saying!! Which also happens to be their philosophy with wearing this. They shrug, rather nonchalantly, the movement of their body causing both their crystalline hair and gaudy holographic outfit to shimmer. ]

Anyway, I can't feel temperature like humans can, so I have no problem going outside in this. [ They'd only suggested that he should've stayed inside because of the weather, since they're no stranger to wearing clothes they don't want to be wearing. Not liking it has nothing to do with it!! ] My housemate insisted I come see what this is all about, and so, here I am...

[ Ari had thought it was worth a try, but even with his optimism they're probably right. The costume won't be coming off until it wants to. Bummer. ]

> "Yeah, it sprang up overnight, didn't it?"

[ There was certainly no festival here yesterday. ]

> "That must be useful if you have to go somewhere really hot or really cold."

[ Ari knows he would've appreciated that ability while traversing the Pospos Snowfield and the Addashi Desert, back home. ]

> "I'm Ari, by the way."

[ It's great to be a sentient rock, Ari. Temperature is just one of many things they never have to feel... ]

You can call me Cairngorm. [ They're not like the more popular named gems who get recognized by humans all the time here, like Diamond or Amethyst... but its okay. They toss their glance to all the little games set up around the festival, choosing to do that instead of look at him while they talk. ] This sort of stuff appears out of nowhere all the time here. I can't say I've seen you around that often, so you must be somewhat new here...

[ Their gaze makes its way back to him. ]

Or am I wrong?

> "Nice to meet you."

[ Ari smiles, but the effect is mostly lost under his sexy Halloween costume. The sheet makes it all but impossible to see his expression. ]

> "Yeah, I arrived with the last group, I think? I don't know if anyone's shown up since then..."

[ Not yet, anyway. ]

> "Have you been here a long time?"

[ They shrug. ]

I've been here since the first group of people showed up in that vile well. Around seven months...

[ He's right, it doesn't seem like anyone new has shown up since then, but if there's one thing being immortal teaches you, it's to recognize patterns. They're pretty sure more people will come sometime soon. ]

Whether or not you consider that a long amount of time is up to you.

> "That does sound like awhile."

[ Still, they don't seem particularly upset about it. ]

> "What do you think of the town?"
