[ closed ] Just teenagers being teenagers
WHO: Kaoru and Kirishima
WHERE: Near the shore
WHEN: April 6
WHAT: Just two teenagers with powers training.
WARNINGS: None, probably.
[She wasn't really able to do all of her usual training routines without the proper equipment (and she hadn't even found any needles or thread to practise with either), but there's at least one thing she can do to practise, still.
So she heads to the shore in the south, standing on the dock as she concentrated on making water stream into the air like a snake. She was frowning in concentration as she made it slide through the air in a slow loop. The edges of the water weren't smooth and the motions were a bit jerky as well and it didn't seem like it'd take much for her to lose her concentration...]

But then, maybe that was the sort of look he wanted to avoid. And she understood having things about yourself you wanted to change, didn't she?
And, he wasn't wrong about being able to see his eyes better without the bangs.]
There's really nothing like the power of a new haricut when it comes to creating a new self-image, is there?
I did the same thing when I started middle school. My hair used to be really short [She tilted her head, drawing a line in the air, indicating that it had just come up to her jaw.] and I was a bit of a tomboy and kind of rough. I started growing out my hair because I wanted to look more feminine and mature. I didn't expect to keep it this long though... [Because it came all the way to her waist. Today it happened to be tied back in a low, side ponytail so it hung down over her shoulder as she ran her fingers through it with a nostalgic sort of smile.] I guess I kept it like this because there was a person I hadn't wanted to become at the time.
[She wasn't sure what he planned to do, but she was watching him with interest. She feels like there's some sort of inside joke that she's not getting but she found it hard not to smile at his antics.]
I think I'd probably find it funnier if you actually told me who Mina is.

[He flexes his arm and holds it up for a fistbump, silently adding in his head that maybe adding a new color and dressing style also helps. But that's just sort of extending the same idea and going too much into details, right? In any case Kirishima isn't going to tell anybody that his red hair is actually dyed until his roots start showing!]
I used to pick fights with bullies all the time when I was a kid. I'd always lose but I still kept trying - I was a real wannabe! [Kirishima chuckles self-consciously, but his eyes betray his good humor about it. It was one of his flaws and Kirishima has worked hard so that he now knows when and where to pick his fights so that they will actually really help people and he is also strong enough that he isn't losing anymore. It's all just a growing experience, right?]
A person you didn't want to be...? [His frown showed that she managed to confuse him a little, although there is also a hint of understanding shining in his eyes. This is too personal as that Kirishima is going to just assume though.] Ah, right, here, let me show you a picture -- you know, times like these make me really happy that they sell all sort of proof phone cases nowadays!
[Holding his phone up, Kirishima offers it triumphantly with a photo opened on the display.]
They took this during the cavalry battle at the sports festival, it's one of my favorites. The grinning tall guy in the background is my friend Sero, the girl's Mina and the blond guy who's upside down is Bakugou! We just cought him with Sero's tape and hauled him back after he broke formation because he was so angry!
[He laughs fondly at the memory and shakes his head.]
I swear our "horse" was the only one with a long range attack with the way Bakugou just kept launching himself into the air and us catching him and hauling him back before his feet touched the ground! It was seriously crazy!

I was a terrible kid around the time I was ten...I was a bit of a bully, actually. [But mostly, their favourite targets had been other bullies. But also Minamoto, but that was less bullying for bullying sake and more because they were just pushing him away. Likewise, she wasn't exactly proud of that time of her life but it was a part of her and what made her who she was today, so she understands.] Makes you wonder how we'd have gotten along as kids, doesn't it?
[Probably terribly, she thought. Her smile dims a little though.] It's...a long and complicated story.
[It wasn't that she didn't want to tell him (though really, she'd rather not talk about it), but she wouldn't even know where to start. She'd probably have to start off explaining how a dead dolphin's preserved brain has been making predictions about her life since she was ten.
She perks up immediately at the offer of pictures and she's coming closer to look.]
Ah! [Her eyes practically light up.] She's so cute! You didn't tell me you knew such a cute girl!
[You're a terrible friend, Kirishima! She laughed at the story.]
Sounds you were all really close! And you know it's no fun if there isn't at least one person who takes these things way too seriously. You should have seen the time my friends were playing two-base baseball. They were all espers so they agreed that psychic powers were allowed and they ended up arguing about whether or not a bazooka breaks the rules.
[That day had been full of fond memories for her.]

[He teasingly winks at her, smiling at the thought. Fighting is one part of getting to know each other better when you're kids after all. Sometimes he wishes the same could be said as you grew older, but being a teen Kirishima already knows that things aren't always that easy.
like there is friendly ribbing, genuine rivalry that can grow into something else that's based on respect and then there is that part where you simply hate each other's guts and nothing you do can change anything about it. Sometimes he fears that the latter is the case between Bakugou and Midoriya, but Kirishima still hopes that those two can reach some sort of silent understanding if nothing else. There is a lot of history he doesn't know about between his friends, but he'd love it if they could get at least along.]
You didn't ask me about it before either.
[He offers with a small wistful smile. The thoughts of his friends is making him feel their missing all the more.]
Mina and I went to the same school before we got to U.A., but we were in different classes. She was sort of... what I wanted to be, if that makes sense? We only started really interacting when we both decided to aim for U.A.'s entrance exams and we became friends ever since. She's really lively and easy to get along with.
[His smiles turns both rueful and fond for a second before he shakes his head with a laugh and puts his phone away.]
We are really close, yeah. I'm a bit sad none of them are here now. Not that I mind Midoriya and the others, but they're [He shrugs helplessly] good friends, but a bit of their own group? They're definitely less rowdy than us when we get all together. Also that bazooka thing reminds me of the time Momo won physical limits tests in P.E. using a scooter and a literal canon. Or the time Bakugou cheated during a swimming race by exploding himself straight across the pool, he wasn't even wet when he declared he'd won!

[She's pouting because...geez. Just because she didn't ask didn't mean he could keep it all to himself! But before she could further her case, his smile turned a little sad and she didn't have the heart to do it.
She could...understand what he was saying a little. It'd be like having Mio or Kazura here instead of Shiho. They were all friends, but Shiho and Aoi were...different.]
Well, if you're looking for rowdy you should come hang out with Shiho and me! Minamoto's always nagging us to calm down, and follow the rules and procedures instead of going wild or just doing what we want, so I'm sure you'd fit right in with us!
[If she thought about it, she'd realize that what she just said didn't quiet line up with what someone would say to a regular highschool girl. But well, Kaoru's never been a very good liar to begin with.]
Your school...really does sound very fun.
[Her school life was fulfilling. It was fun and warm and happy, but she wasn't allowed to use her powers for things like P.E. or Sports Festivals. She understands why, knew that Minamoto only asked it of them so they could go to school and be normal kids, but hearing about a school like the one Kirishima came from made her feel a bit...jealous. So maybe her smile was a bit rueful too. Ugh, but enough of this moping!]
What did you even come out here to do anyway? And don't tell me it was to study to be a circus lion.
no subject
Hah! Your Minamoto sounds like our class president! Iida is actually here, maybe you've met him? Tall, dark hair, glasses, has a tendency to fall into weird choppy hand movements whenever he's getting worked up. His quirk gives him engines in his calves.
[He laughs a little and nods.]
It's a good school. I'm really glad I got in. Both the teachers and the other students really are something else, in the best ways. Your time with your friends sounds really lively and fun too. And haha, no, I came out to train. I can't effort to get out of shape just because we're stranded at a strange place!
no subject
Well, there are always going to be people who won't understand each other no matter what. But I'm sure there are even more people we can come to an understanding with even if it takes time to get there.
[And maybe that meant a hearty fight or two. And maybe sometimes it meant saving the terrorists that tried to kill all your friends with a bomb from drowning. But enough about that! She grins.]
Ah! I met him when the furniture was talking! He really does remind me of Minamoto! Especially the glasses. [...is that all that was like Minamoto? Actually, there was also the way he could lecture Shiho about wearing a holster and actually get her to listen.] Minamoto doesn't have any powers but he's a genius and he's great at doing housework!
[That was important.]
They're a lot of fun. It's never really boring when we're together. [Because at the end of the day, she really did love her school life.] How were you planning on training? [Because she's a bit curious. Different powers required different training regimes. That was why individual espers and esper teams were assigned a specialized supervisor. But she had a general idea about the basic training for the various types of psychic powers. This was completely new territory though.]
no subject
Thanks for reminding me of that, Kaoru! I keep letting myself get dragged down way too easily lately!
[He is going to work on that! At the mention of housework Kirishima's brows raise and he laughs in disbelief.]
Housework? I didn't know you qualified a man's worth by his skills as a house-husband! I'm sure Iida's good with that as well, though. As often as he nags at us to clean up after ourselves~
[Of course there's also that Kirishima isn't sure that Iida even knew how to use a coffee maker at first, but everybody has their learning moments. At least he didn't explode the washing machine!]
At first I'm doing my regular workout program - running, squats, punching boulders, the works! I need to stay fit and agile after all! After that I was hoping to find something or someone who'd help me work on my stamina since that's still one of my weak points when I'm using my quirk.
no subject
...you're welcome.
[Oh, but she did love talking about her friends and about Minamoto. Especially when she got to talk about their good points.]
It's probably because we're not very good at housework, but there's something nice about a guy who likes to cook and clean. When we still lived with him, our fridge was always stuffed full of delicious food!
[...even Kaoru wouldn't explode a washing machine though.
But also...punching boulders?]
What sort of stamina training do you need to do?
no subject
As things are he only laughs and flashes her his teeth in a grin.]
We have somebody like that too in our dorms! Rikidou draws his power from sugar, so he bakes and cooks a real lot and often shares with us when he makes more than he needs. His food is super-delicious too! And Bakugou makes the best spicy food, even though it's really hot and spicy!
[He wags his head for a moment and puts his hands against his belt as he looks for a good example to answer her question (also to discreetly check if all the soaking didn't make his pants slip down or any of the white stripes they have see-through.)]
Quirk and general one! For general one I do running, squats, push-ups, lifting weights, some stuff to work on my agility, the usual combat moves training, stretching... I aim usually for 200 reps each, but sometimes I change it up when I am done quicker than usual or feel like I ought to focus on something in particular.
As for quirk training, a lot of it is simply based on keeping up my hardening and facing tough challenges as long as possible. Breaking and cutting concrete boulders is good to keep my basics sharp, but recently I've really taken to ask other strong people to hit me with their all instead. Trying to match and counter them is the best way for me to improve myself!
no subject
[Well, for most girls anyway. She'll admit that not everyone's tastes are the same. There must be people who would prefer the spicy food but the majority? The guy who can bake is probably going to be more popular.
She listens and...wow, that's an impressive amount of training.]
You sure are hardworking. [Their own training besides the basic control related ones were mostly scenario based and even if it weren't physical training was less important for her given her powers. But as she listens though, she seems to get an idea.] How about I help with your quirk training?
no subject
[He beams at her, mistaking it for a compliment.]
Thanks! I'm trying to be as dedicated to it as I can so that I can keep up with the others! And you would?! That's be really awesome!!
no subject
[It was a compliment! She can give out those!]
So I just need to hit you, right? [She thinks, with something but uh. They're at the beach. There's nothing but water and sand.] Anything I should know before we start?
no subject
[To make his point he hardens up and crosses his arms in front of his chest, smile cocky and ready to defend.]
I...don't know what happened with my HTML up there.
She took a deep breath, then she grinned.
Right, they could do this. Besides, he was training to be a hero right? He wasn't just some cocky teenager who didn't know what his limits were and she had hit enough criminals and done enough training exercises (and thrown Kiritsubo and Minamoto into enough walls) to know how hard was safe and how hard wasn't.
She tilts her head with a clear challenge in her eyes as she holds a hand up, palm facing towards him.]
If you're sure, Ei-chan. Don't blame me if something goes wrong. [It won't. She won't let that happen.
And that's all the warning he's getting before she's pushing out with her power, hard enough to move a boulder.]
