The Not so Sad Cafe - October

[Most of the month will have Rin working diligently in the cafe. The events of the previous month weren't nearly as terrible as the month before that had been, but sharing memories with everyone had been pretty emotionally exhausting. Some might notice that Rin is a little more distant than usual, though it's not enough for him to fall behind on his usual tasks or keep him from chatting with the people that visit the cafe.]

BRB Gone Camping (Open Mingle) - 14th and 15th

[At some point during the month, though, Rin will actually seemingly go missing!

Only not really. He's just been dragged camping with the rest of the Defense Force by Guren. Thankfully he was given enough notice to do so. There's a note on the door to the cafe, somewhat messily scrawled but readable.

Yo. Guren dragged the Defense Force on a big camping trip. I'll be gone for a couple of days, but if you're still hungry I pre-made some stuff. Just don't be greedy, okay?

He's going on the assumption that most, if not everyone in Chroma knows better than to be jerks to each other and not to bogart all the supplies. As such the cafe is technically open, just with stuff that can last a couple of days without the usual cook around. Dried meats and fruits, among other items that hopefully won't go bad.

Feel free to poke around the place. Just don't touch Rin's and Kaoru's shit upstairs.]

Have Sword, Will (Attempt to) Train - October

[On a rare occasion one might stumble across Rin doing something... slightly surprising. Since his arrival Rin has somewhat shirked any real attempt to continue his training, mostly blaming it on simply not having his teacher, Shura, around. There's some truth to that. He was used to her way of doing things with him and didn't think anyone else would really get him the way she did.

But at least part of it was just sheer refusal on his part to commit to it when he's not even at home where the classes and trainings to be an exorcist were way more important.

The incident with the sirens, though, shook him in a way he wasn't expecting and left him feeling weak, useless after not being able to help anyone, let alone himself. No one he knew had actually died, but Nyx came far, far too close for comfort.

So every once in a while one might catch the blue illumination of Rin's flames in the yard attached to the house where Chroma Cafe had been set up. Out there with his sword, mostly just working on swings and techniques as there isn't exactly someone here to pick up where he left off with Shura all those months ago. Still, might be an interesting time to bother him? Don't worry about the flames, either. He's not intent on burning anything right now.]

[ She's been doing a lot of hanging out with Rin at the cafe because she has nothing better to do with her time, and she needs to keep her mind off of ... things. She did see one of Rin's memories last month, so she kind of understands why he's so distant, but it still worries her a lot. She's trying to distract him as much as she's trying to distract herself. ]

Hey, is it just you who runs everything here, or do you have other people helping out as well?

[ Kohaku can't imagine it gets too busy given the limited supplies at the moment, but one never can say for sure. ]

[Not busy, but steady enough to keep him occupied.

He was in the middle of peeling some apples with a small knife, looking up at the question.]

Uh, a little. John helps with deliveries when we get 'em. Clark is usually around with me in the kitchen. We... had others, but people come and go here a lot.

[spiria]

Oh.

[ Hm. ]

Do you think you could use any more help? I'm here a lot of the time anyway, I may as well put myself to some use other than sitting here chatting your ear off while you work.

I-I don't... mind you chattin' with me...

[DURRHURR God why does he get flustered like that it's just too much. He barely even knows her!

Then again that didn't stop him from flustering all over Sheimi, either.]

But if you wanna help... yeah. I lost Roxas like a month ago and it's been kinda hard to keep up on the cleanin'.

[ hurhur pretty girl

She brightens a bit at the suggestion. ]

Okay! I can definitely do some cleaning around here. It'll be good to be able to take some of the work off of you.

[ Kohaku stands up. ]

Plus, I can still chat your ear off while cleaning.

[ And now she's looking around. ]

... What do you need cleaned right now?

[Help him...]

Eheh... yeah. 'course.

[What does he need right now? Hm. He's got the kitchen covered for the moment.]

Dining area could stand a once over, I think.

["Dining area" literally just being the living room he modified to work as a sitting area for people who wanted to eat there.]

Got it. Where are the supplies?

[ You know. Things she can clean with. Like a broom. So she can sweep the floor. ]

There's a little closet next to the kitchen doorway.

[A broom, at least. Not a whole lot else. He's been building up supplies for about six months now but it's mostly limited to what can be found around town.]

[spiria]

[ She walks over to the closet and retrieves the broom, then starts sweeping at the nearest place with dust. ]

I'll have to keep a look out for other cleaning supplies. I'm sure they're out there somewhere.

[satanslash]

I've been lookin', trust me.

[He goes back to what he was working on, carefully moving the apple around in a circle while he peeled the deep red skin.]

A while ago we got these... portals to a small place back in our own worlds. There wasn't anyone in them, but we were able to bring some things here. Maybe it'll happen again. Until then, yeah, just keep an eye out. Might get lucky.

[spiria]

Really? So it was like ... your world, but not your world?

[ She stops sweeping for a moment, looking deep in thought at the accumulating dust on the floor. ]

... Were you able to see how your world was faring overall?

[satanslash]

Kinda? It was like... frozen in time, I guess? It was like some day before Y-- ... before I got to Chroma. I could tell 'cause it was snowy and cold.

[spiria]

[ Oh, there was a pause there. She wasn't going to pry, though. He had been through enough recently. ]

So ... It probably didn't provide a lot of insight into how things were going back home, huh.

[ It was something, at least, but eh. She got back to sweeping, but she fell pretty quiet after that. Time for a distraction! ]

Quest 28 - Izuku

[Rin is, as most of Chroma knows, quite the cook. He's incredibly talented for his age, deft with a knife and capable of making even the limited supplies in the village work well.

Rin, however, is not a talented artist. At all. Apparently it's just an Okumura trait to not be able to draw anything past a slightly, poorly detailed stick figure because Yukio isn't much better.

As such pumpkin carving thus far has resulted in some... dubious attempts. The two poorly carved pumpkins sit near by as Rin readies two new ones for him and Izuku to work on together, seemingly undeterred by the fact that his previous creations look like they need to be put out of their misery...]

[It's the thought and the effort that counts!! As Izuku would probably tell him if he thought Rin needed the encouragement. Even if the pumpkins sitting beside his friend aren't as detailed as his, Izuku still thinks they look nice, What, there's nothing wrong with a smiley face on the pumpkin!

Izuku, pausing in the middle of carving a certain someone's goggles into his pumpkin, sends Rin a grin.]

Hey, do you think you could make anything with the extra pumpkins? Seems like a waste to just carve all of them up and leave them out. [Especially when they have to grow all these pumpkins in the gardens themselves.]

[Rin knows he's mediocre in the art department, so he's not complaining about the results of his efforts. If anything it works for the aesthetic of Halloween.]

Eh? Oh, yeah, I've been savin' the stuff! I can dry the seeds for a snack and use the insides for a few other recipes!

[No way Rin was going to waste food in this place.]

Pumpkin seeds! That's a good idea, Okumura-kun.

[It's always helpful to have someone who's much better at cooking and being resourceful with food items to talk to--like Rin!]

Have you ever tried pumpkin carving back home? This is the first time I've had a chance to try it, too.

Yeah, we did some for the festival since it was in October. ... I'm still not very good at it.

[He doesn't mind, though. He's having fun even with his lacking artistic skills.]

I bet you'll get a lot better at it with practice! Strider-kun made sure we had a lot of pumpkins to work with and all.

[With a hum, Izuku finishes up the goggles and starts working on what looks like... a scarf? A very long one that wraps all around the pumpkin.]

It helps if you sketch the patterns out on the pumpkins beforehand, too.

[He's been practicing. There hasn't been much improvement yet.

Rin blinks a bit, pausing with the knife caked in pumpkin guts in his hand.]

Sketch it... ? I'unno, I'm basically only good at stick figures.

[And not even then.]

[inheritance]

Hey, those can work, too. It's a little different from the other two you've already made, right?

[He sets his pumpkin to the side for a moment.] I've got a pen if you want to use it.

[satanslash]

[A stickfigure jack'o'lantern...

Well, worth a shot!]

Sure.

[inheritance]

[Don't knock it till you try it?

Without hesitating, Izuku's handing the pen right over!] Here you go!

[satanslash]

[Yup!

Rin is willing to give it a shot. He takes the pen and gives his gutted pumpkin a hard, thoughtful look for a good long while before he starts attempting his stick figure across it's face.]

[inheritance]

[While Rin's hard at work with his sketching, Izuku finishes up his the last details on his Eraserhead themed pumpkin and sets it aside with a smile.

Then, he's scooting over to peer over Rin's shoulder.]
