"Win him over"...?
Ah well.
Of greater interest is how he's really never seen Caramia look anything but cheerful, but right now he looks so grumpy.]
Ah...
[Unfortunately, he's a quiet child, so he's pretty okay with taking a back seat to the majority of their speaking at each other. All he really ends up saying when Caramia is done is:]
Caramia-san was kind enough to offer to come with me hunting, since I've never done it before. But... it would be great if you could come too.
no subject
His eye narrows at the mention of hunting, however. With so little information to go off of, to call it 'like home' is beyond a stretch...
"If the two of you intend to wander off into the forest to get yourselves mauled by wolves, I won't be assisting you." He's got better things to do, clearly. "But seeing as I intend to join you regardless, and you're both able-bodied enough to climb... I'm sure you won't mind a slight change in plans."
Just gonna... casually steer them to the more rational option. They don't know enough about the forest just yet. This way, they can at least scope it out, first.
no subject
Mauled? At least have just a little faith in me. Hunting comes naturally to me, you know. [ Now that he had his courage, anyway.
These wolves might have been different from home, but Caramia could still handle them all the same, he was sure of it. Lions win every time, right? ]
O-oi!! Hold on, I do mind. I told Minato I'd be showing him how to hunt, you can't just change that...!
no subject
So he'd rather not bring it up now and ruin it.
Instead:]
Climb...? [?? Minato glances from Kyrie to Caramia in some bemusement.] Would that be for one of the quests too, Kyrie-san?
[... Uh. On the other hand, stepping between Caramia and Kyrie in their bickering right now doesn't seem wise.]
no subject
In any case, Caramia gets ignored, in favor of the real favorite, here. Look, Minato even gets a cheery grin!! How many of those can you say you've gotten, Caramia?
"Yes, that's correct!" He spins on a heel, reaching over to place one hand surely between the boy's shoulderblades; without missing a beat, he pushes him insistently along with just enough force to say 'play along' without outright making him stumble.
If he resists, Kyrie will just sort of smile
menacinglypleasantly until... he stops doing that."Rather than risk life and limb playing with a brainless beast--" Is he talking about the wolf or the lion here...? "--you'll be acting as an extension of myself, to collect a golden leaf. Surely you don't expect me to reach them myself?"
Bye, Caramia! He's taking Minato away now! Better catch up!!
no subject
Oi, oi, you can do that on your own, Kyrie, it's just a leaf and you were no more upset to pull yourself out of that well with your birds, you can surely get your own damn leaf with them, too!
[ Caramia was, of course, arguing with Kyrie while following him, like that was supposed to make his argument hold any sort of weight. Stopping Kyrie? Trying to pull Minato away? going off on his own to do what he meant to do? Nope. Just. Staying at Kyrie's side...
What a mess. ]
And I told you, we're not risking anything-- I can handle a few mutts, no problem.
no subject
It's kind of a relief Caramia keeps pace with them, though; he didn't want to leave him behind or have to somehow make some sort of choice between the two.
On the other hand, he's kind of fascinated by their dynamic, so he keeps his mouth shut as they bicker back and forth, expression more contemplative than anything. This isn't really what he expected from them at all.]
no subject
He stops pushing Minato along once he's sure he'll continue on his own, letting his arm drop back to his side and glancing back at Caramia as he follows.
"In any case, whether or not you can handle them isn't my concern. If you're so insistent on it, why don't you run off on your own? You can go play cats and dogs while Minato and I reap all the spoils for ourselves--when we retrieve your corpse, I'll be sure to give you a proper burial at sea."
How can he say all this with such a pleasant face...?
no subject
You intend on sharing with him? Come on, Kyrie, at least be honest, and tell him you intend on taking it for yourself.
[ Look, see? He can spill shit about you too, Kyrie. ]
And anyway, I know I can do it, I was just hoping to share the experience with someone who hadn't done it before. How else is one going to learn something crucial as hunting? From you? I don't think so. Besides, did you even ask him if he was okay with it?
no subject
Hmm...
Also somehow, even if this is getting more and more vicious, bickering-wise, he still doesn't feel like they don't like each other... rather, it's the opposite, isn't it?]
Ah... could we maybe do both, Caramia-san? [FINALLY Minato speaks up a bit. Shockingly.] We could start with the quest, since it's true we should try to get those done... and you could teach me to hunt after...?
no subject
"Well, yes," he allows, waving a hand with a soft, bubbly laugh. "It's only fair, given that it was my idea in the first place. I'm sure Minato would agree, it's the responsible thing to do."
He slides an amused glance over to Caramia, the easy smile on his face a distinct contrast to the sharp insults he'd been tossing out just moments ago.
"How exactly do you plan on teaching him? He isn't a cub, you know. He doesn't have the teeth, nor claws for that matter, to hunt the way you're used to." A pause. Then, as Minato speaks up at last, his attention shifts back to the road before them. Somehow, he looks... almost smug?
Definitely pleased with himself, given the fact he's all but won here. But there's a dangerously cheshire glint to his eye as he heaves an over-dramatic sigh and continues:
"I wouldn't put too much stock in him, Minato. You should know that he would have run from so much as a rabbit when I first met him."
no subject
O-oi, you were supposed to deny that. At least pretend you have some dignity... [ He muttered, mostly to himself, heaving a sigh.
And he was going to point out that Minato even brought a weapon and everything. It would've been so easy to teach him how to hunt, but why take that into account? That would've been easy. Arguing about it was going to prove fruitless, wasn't it? It always did.
He'd drop that for now, seeing as it might be in their best interest to just go hunting after they do this silly gold leaf hunt or whatever. ]
H-hey!! That was ages ago, there's no point bringing that up! [ Low blow, Kyrie. ]
no subject
Minato is not at all bothered by the fact that Kyrie intended on taking the quest item for himself; it's sort of how these things go, and for him? The process is more interesting anyway. Learning more about Caramia and Kyrie is more interesting than actually holding onto some sort of golden leaf.
But.
That's... sure a statement.]
A...rabbit? [Sorry, Caramia, he can't help it... he offers up a puzzled look.] But aren't you a lion?
no subject
It doesn't take much to entertain him, really.
"Yes, Caramia..." He tilts his head, aiming a grin at his don as he asks in an innocent tone, "Aren't you a lion?"
Getting Minato to join in on the teasing, even if it's just innocent curiosity, is probably the best thing he's done since he's gotten here.
no subject
[ Look, Caramia doesn't get a prime opportunity for a comeback better than this one. He was even sliding in real close to Kyrie to plop an arm around his shoulder, grinning wide at Minato. ]
You should've seen this one, back in the day. Did I ever mention that he was a scarecrow? It's why his hair's so strange now. [ Like, really, who has naturally green hair??? That's just so weird. ] Among other things. [
Like how he acts like he has a stick up his ass? Haha. Good one.]He didn't have very good memory, but he was just as sweet as could be. Kind and brilliant in his own right, he was. Cared about a coward like me, too.
[ And just what happened? Caramia would like to know. If you find out for yourself, Minato, please tell your resident lion dad. ]
no subject
This is information overload.
(Wait... a cowardly lion, a scarecrow...? Where has he heard that before?)]
A...scarecrow?
[... "Sweet"? Look, Minato can look on the bright side of things, but calling Kyrie sweet is kind of hard to contemplate.]
He...was like that?
no subject
His grin fades into more of a neutral smile as Caramia's arm goes around him, only to harden into one that's... pretty obviously forced. And with a hint of threat behind it, as well.
"Funny to bring up my hair, when yours is all bedhead," he retorts, though it falls flat as Caramia continues.
Honestly, he should have cut his losses. Or kept talking, so that there wouldn't have been the chance for this change in subject. But he didn't, and now Minato is encouraging the topic, and so here he is, lifting his chin indignantly despite the faint color rising in his cheeks.
"I did not." Convincing argument, Kyrie. Definitely doesn't sound like a petulant child. "I simply didn't yet realize what a complete and total waste of fur you would end up. If I'd known better, I would have left you to rot in that awful forest--I could do it still, you know, you stupid, shitty lion."
Please, Minato, have mercy... Take your teacher's side here, please.........
no subject
And anyway, we're just gonna ignore that part about the hair. It was negligible since there were far better things to be focusing on right now. Like Scarecrow! ]
He was! It was quite precious, honestly. Put a "mister" or "miss" in front of everyone's name, and took joy in the smallest things. Wasn't nearly as grumpy, either...
[ Caramia, admittedly, did miss when he was like that. Not that he'd ever tell Kyrie that, since he still did care about Kyrie now, but... it was nice to have such a caring friend. He guessed it just sucked not knowing why he changed.
...You know, it was absolutely worth it now to see Kyrie flustered like this now, though. ]
Hey, that's mean. I was being nice, you know! You really were quite sweet. It was nice having someone believe in me.
no subject
Is that....
Is that a blush on Kyrie's face? Holy crap. Caramia has some sort of witchcraft power over Kyrie, that's for sure, because that's not an expression Minato ever expected to see on Kyrie's face. So apparently everything Caramia is saying is completely true, because why else would Kyrie be so flustered...?
One thing Minato definitely is not going to do is take sides here; he's absorbed in their argument, but you'd better bet he's not going to say a word in response. No way, he's just going to Listen and see how much he can learn here, he knows better than to put himself in the line of fire...
Continue, dad #1 and dad #2.]
no subject
"Oh, shut up," he snaps, because that's a valid comeback. "I hope you fall off a cliff and roll into a lake so I can leave you out here to drown."
Why does he sound like a pouty kid...? Ah. Because he is. And after a moment, as if unintentionally reinforcing the idea, he continues:
"And stop hanging off of me like the smelly old coat I ought to turn you into--you're getting your nauseating stench all over me." With that, he shoves irritably at Caramia's arm, taking up a faster stride as if to break free from the pair of them entirely.
In the end though, his intention is just to take up the lead, so they can't see his face as he glares towards the forest they're inevitably nearing. Why couldn't this happen around someone else? Like Okuyasu. At least then if he felt like a fool, he could remind himself that there were bigger ones in the world still. Sorry, Okuyasu.
no subject
Scusa, but I couldn't help make fun of Kyrie. It's rare I get the opportunity. Guess I have you to thank for that, Minato.
no subject
Guh.
An arm over his shoulder, and Minato... just kind of bears with it, even if he looks a little startled despite himself.]
Ah... I'm glad you're happy, but that wasn't really my intention--
[It's not like he was trying to set Kyrie up for teasing, it just...happened.]
But...you two really are close, aren't you?
no subject
Kyrie, meanwhile, keeps up a steady stride some few paces ahead of the pair. He's not at all interested in hearing Caramia's excuses until--
He makes a soft noise under his breath that's half a scoff and half a disgusted grunt. While he doesn't quite turn to look at them, he does duck his head a bit to snap over his shoulder.
"How could you have come up with that preposterous idea...?"
Hm. Deja vu, how strange.
Still, what a ridiculous notion. These two? Getting along? You'd have to be an idiot to even suggest it.
no subject
[ Seemed like Kyrie was the only one a little bewildered by Minato's words. Caramia, still keeping his arm around him, gave a rather shocked expression. Well, it's not as if he hasn't gone around telling everyone that they made a good team, but it was a little strange for someone else to see that, rather than Caramia just insisting that were the case.
Then, though, he laughed. ]
You aren't wrong. He really is my best friend, after all. No matter how much we may argue.
no subject
Instead, Minato hums a soft noise and nods.]
I thought so... it's obvious you've known each other a long time, and I feel like... you have to be really close to be able to bicker like that without being upset by it.
[It's just... them being them, isn't it?]
