[It's good to explore every possible avenue for what happened to the missing people, right? Minato's got some serious personal stake in this as well, even if he's kept it relatively under wraps; what happened to Mitsuru and Ryoji still weighs on his mind, and while he'd like to think they went home...

Well.

"Wishful thinking" isn't good enough when it comes to his friends and his team, is it?

And so, after mishap after mishap is over and done with (involving not being able to get to the island and getting dumped into the harbor for their trouble), they can finally see the island properly on the horizon, and then, with his hands tucked into his pockets, looking off into the distance at their destination:]

[This is going to go really poorly.]

[Hm... Minato follows silently, head tilted... before he stumbles over something else.

He doesn't fall, at least, and when he crouches to look at what he stumbled over--]

This looks like...a bag?

Maybe. [He shines the light from his sword over to Minato so he can get a better look.] How old do you think it is? Maybe we should take some of it back.

[Minato tries to lift the bag, and its strap practically disintegrates into dust.

... Very, very old...? But let's grab what's not falling apart too badly.

[A box of crackers also disintegrates in his hand and he wipes the dust on his jeans.]

You got it. It's too dark in here anyway, I'd like to see if they have color to them. [He's picking up what feels like a book then, tucking it under his arm.] That'll give us a clue, too.

[Percy's right about that... so Minato just nods quietly with a softly acknowledging noise, and gets to work on finding things that won't just disintegrate to the touch.

It's... unpleasant, but this is fine.

They've got this.]

[This is disrespecting the dead even further but he's quiet as he picks up books he can't figure out and a few articles of clothing to create a little bundle to carry back.]

...hey Minato. Why do you think these ghosts were trapped on the island? Like. Which came first, the people or the sirens?

You think the sirens called them out here and ate them, like they were going to do to us?

[Minato frowns, lifting a small journal in his hands very carefully.]

It's possible. I'm really not sure... were the townspeople adventurous? Would they have come out here on their own...? That's what we really need to know.

It's possible. Why else would their remains and everything be here? Unless they were living out here, but that would mean this island used to be livable. [...there are way too many questions and he shakes his head.] We're never gonna know by just sitting around here. We'll have to see what we can find out elsewhere, I think.

[messianic]

[... Yeah.]

You're right. Let's bring back what we've got--everyone back home might have better ideas of what this all means anyway.

["Back home"... they've been here way too long, really.]

Good call. Once we're out of the cave I'll call Mrs. O'Leary and we'll shadowtravel back to the main land.
