[ So, bees. Bees aren't the greatest things, if you ask him -- he got stung once, when he was a kid, and it was nasty as hell. But thankfully, Gladio had taught him a few survival skills when it comes to braving the wild wild... whatever, and he's got an idea.

Which is why he's got sticks and a handy fire spell. He's trotting over towards Lupin when he finds him, raising his free hand in a half-wave. ]

Hey.

[ and here comes Noctis, with... sticks. Is that what he meant when he said he had a plan? Lupin raises an eyebrow, returning the wave. ]

Hey yourself. You look like you're all prepared.

[ all Lupin has with him (at least on first glance) is a black cape, which he currently has balled up in his hands rather than on his back. ]

Definitely. I've learned a thing or two about bees.

[ Noctis gives him a crooked smile and a little wave. When he draws closer, he eyes the cape balled up in his hands, raising his brows. ]

What's that?

[ what is that supposed to mean...... ]

This? It's just my cape. I thought I could wrap it around my face to keep 'em off of me.

[ in combination with his mask, of course. ]

So what's your plan, bee expert?

[ it means gladio totally put him through survival training and it suuuuucked.

Noctis eyes him for a moment, contemplating that answer before he simply says. ]

Uh, you'll be standing a long way away. I'm gonna need you to put my sword beside you when you do.

[ uh. Lupin quirks an eyebrow. ]

I'm not following.

[ why's he standing far away with Noctis's sword!! ]

[ Here they are, in the middle of the forest and eyeing the creepy, strange fairies a safe distance away. Noctis doesn't hold out hope that they would be simple, and so often these quests are just creepy. Then again, Noctis is relatively used to creepy things.

He eyes them, then turns back to Ryouma, sword materializing in his hand in a shimmer of silver-blue. ]

You ever dealt with things like these before?

[Fairies are new. Ryouma's seen some weird stuff in the last year or so, but fairies aren't on that list.

Well, time to expand his horizons! Though this isn't exactly his preferred way of doing it.]

Can't say I have.

[Neither can he say he's ever seen someone SUMMON A SWORD LIKE THAT.]

...That's a neat trick.

[And also crazy???]

[ Bee time! Noctis had specially dragged Dex out for many reasons, chief of which being the new discovery that Dex does like honey, and Noctis is a big supporter of Dex eating edible things as opposed to bad or rotting meat. He's taken it upon himself to be the surveyor of his friend's food intake whenever he can, making sure he doesn't kill himself eating something he shouldn't.

And so they find themselves here in front of a buzzing beehive, Noctis carefully setting a bunch of sticks underneath it and eyeing Dex thoughtfully. ]

You got more sticks on you?

[ dextera isn’t used to the idea that people will just do things, simply because he likes them. the quests have utility, and he can understand when he’s dragged on one of those—but this is just noctis being nice. he needs dextera, specifically, because it’s a favor being done for dextera, specifically.

how strange. ]

Ah…

[ dextera’s sticks are less impressive? but he knew they would need them, so he’s been gathering them as he walked. he nods. ]

[ Get used to it, buddy. Noctis likes Dex a lot, and therefore there will be plenty of things Noctis will do for Dex's sake. First of all being getting honey, even if he knows neither of them can turn that in.

At least it means Dex won't accidentally make himself sick with rotten meat, right? ]

Great. Hand 'em over.

[ Noctis gestures to him, setting his pile of sticks not far away from the hive. ]

[ getting honey is a good thing!

spending time with noctis is an even better thing, and with something like this, he really trusts that noctis knows what he’s doing. something he’s learned over the past several months is that noctis has a surprising number of skills under his belt—he knows how to do a lot of things that dextera never even thought a person would need to know how to do.

like, for example, gather honey. ]

[ dutifully, he nods, handing them over for the pile. ]

Have you done this before?

[ By this time Noctis has become an old hand at this, and is busy laying out the sticks nicely under a beehive once he's made sure that the mutated things aren't paying attention to the fellow underneath their hive. ]

I don't remember them being as gross as they are in this town.

[ Noctis mutters to Mutsu, holding his hand out for more sticks. ] Gonna need one more handful here, buddy.

[ Dex has a brother, Noctis knows. Noctis also knows that his brother is... complicated and. Well, complicated, and Noctis is wary of him, having never had contact with him personally up until -- well, until now.

He pauses in his tracks as he spots Sinistra not too far away, close enough for him to talk to but not enough for Noctis to figure out what he's doing at this angle. Hmmm. ]

Hey.

[ Sinistra tries to stay away from... that house. He'd done a terrible thing there and he feels wrong even being near it. And so, he's never really met the people Dextera lives with.

Well, until now. Not that he's minding Noctis at the moment. He's snacking. Not on something great. Just a worm he found wiggling out of the ground.

The best part of having no standards for food is getting to eat whatever he can digest, anytime and anywhere. ]

[ Is he -- is he eating a worm?

Holy hell, if Noctis ever doubted they were brothers (he didn't), he's entirely sure of it now. Why are the two of them so hell-bent on eating weird stuff? ]

Uh, hey! Don't eat that.

[ he is... and he's not stopping. Following instructions is not on his list of priorities.

Besides it doesn't take long to just... suck the worm into his mouth. Still looking at Noctis with a calm expression. ]

[ These faeries are definitely nasty as hell things -- Noctis doesn't like them very much, and his first round with them had been quite the eye opener. Which is why he's here with Estelle, ready to do some faerie-defeating and one hell of a lot of damage.

Treading into the forest together with her, he looks about cautiously, trying to catch sight of any sign of them. ]

Be careful, they can be a giant pain in the ass.

Just means we'll have to be a bigger pain for them, right?

[Estelle shoots Noctis a smile, gripping her staff a little tighter as she glances around, eyes and ears keen for any sign of their quarry.

Faeries.... like something out of a storybook, but probably not nearly as cute as they sounded in the books, knowing this place.]

You've faced them, right? What do they look like, anyway?

[ See, this is why Noctis likes Estelle plenty, she knows where it's at. Noctis laughs, because her bravado and gumption is part of why he appreciates her like he does. ]

Uh, they're really ugly. Trust me, you'll know when you do.

[ They're turning a corner, and another, treading deeper into the forest when -- not far away, Noctis points, his words barely a murmur. ] ...There.

[ Defeat the fairies, right? That's what it said on the forum, and Ari volunteered himself in hopes of helping someone out. He wants to be useful now that he's gotten settled in Chroma, and he has some battle experience. What could go wrong?

After meeting Noctis face to face for the first time, the two head into the forest to seek out said magical creatures. ]

> "I've never seen a fairy before. What do you think they look like?"

They look like really ugly little people. More or less.

[ Noctis says after a thoughtful moment, hefting his sword over his shoulder. ]

I didn't kill 'em, though. Although I gotta ask, what are you good at doing?

[ Ari has a sword too! For what it's worth. The Forgotten Sword may be simple in design, but the hilt is warm in his hand, and he feels safer holding it.

But Noctis is asking what he's good at. ]

> "Well..."

[ There are things he can do, but whether or not he's good at them is a debatable matter. He hopes he's good enough for this, at least. ]

"I know some magic. I can put things to sleep, sometimes, and I know how to heal. And, um... I can make you stronger for awhile?"

[ Overdrive allows him to boost a person's offensive ability, although the radiating magenta pink glow it grants with said enhancement is a little embarrassing. If Ari uses that ability on himself, he's learned how to concentrate that power into a group-wide blast. That could be useful, maybe. ]
