t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? We're not THAT far back!

I mean we sent the colonies in to space like... ninety years ago.

...And you guys didn't make phones that can take pictures?

I figure there was probably not that big of a need for it? As it is mobile phones are still notoriously bad at functioning on the colonies, and video broadcasts are still done with delays when sent anywhere than the source location.

War can make a lot of advances but it can also stagnate just as much.

Radio, mostly. Earth had an easier time getting more advanced communication methods, but the colonies are still struggling to get stuff that isn't affected by being in space.

We had some pretty damn smart scientists but they were mostly caught up in building bigger and better mobile suits. Or being forced to.
