Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

“Of course. It is my sworn duty to protect the weak and helpless.” He says that with all pride and sincerity. Sorry, Keigo.

"I'm not completely helpless! I kept the horses calm when the werewolves attacked! I just know the limits of what I can do!" Like running away. That's something he can do

“Yes, everyone has their strengths.” He looks a little taken aback by the reply nevertheless, before it dawns on him that oh—he’d insulted him by accident, hadn’t he?

“Even my master cannot fight, but I trust them with my life.”

"You have a master? Like you're some rich guy's bodyguard?" He's going bodyguard over butler since he can fight, and also he only has a fuzzy understanding of the non-employment master possibilities.

He considers this. “I don’t think they are particularly rich, but yes. I suppose I can be called that.” There’s still fighting involved anyway.

"Will you need me to pay you if you save me from something?"

Keigo doesn't have much to offer. A towel. A pull-along dog toy. Some coffee beans. A useless cell phone.

He actually cracks his eyes open in surprise at that. “Pay me? What an absurd notion. I am a knight, sworn to defend others. I need not be treated like a common mercenary.”

Besides, he’s not even sure what to do with any form of payment Keigo might give him. It’s not like he needs to eat, or anything.

"Then I won't treat you like a common mercenary!" That worry is easily vanquished. His first knightly duty towards Keigo.

"Is there anything else I can help you with, or should I let you go to check out the rest of the town?"

“Hahaha, you are quite an interesting fellow.” And so helpful, too! He really appreciates it, Keigo. The townspeople here are so good and eager to help that he could almost cry.

“Then, if I am not imposing upon your valuable time, I would like the honor of your company as I explore this town.”

He has nothing but time, but his internal attention seeking radar perks up at having that time be called valuable.

"Tour guide Keigo, at your service! What would you like to see most?"

He considers this for a moment. “Perhaps…I would like to see what you consider the loveliest sight in town.”

And if it’s one of the ladies, well, he won’t judge…

It would be tempting, but for some reason, he can never find the ladies when he's looking for them.

After taking a little time to think, Keigo has his decision.

"I'm taking you to Flavo then! There's a garden there." He never thought he'd get excited about vegetables.

“A garden? Surely that alone is a miracle in such a desolate place as this.” And that makes Keigo a very astute and sensitive soul in his eyes. How inspiring!

"I don't know how they got it growing, but new things get color every once in a while." He hasn't thought about it enough to realize it happens precisely every month. "The only problem is things aren't always the right color. I have blue cinnamon back at home!"

“Even that is a miracle in and of itself. I do not think that anything can be of the ‘wrong’ color.” And this is already oddly optimistic of him to think of in the first place. “Perhaps…‘imaginative’ might be more pertinent?”

"Messing with our heads is more like it." There will be no optimism here. "But at least they have taste. Did you know about that yet? You can still eat the stuff that doesn't have any color, but it tastes disgusting."

“Oh? I shall keep that in mind, then.” The food’s not much of a concern for him anyway, as fascinating as the garden is. “But are the animals here the same way? I had thought about hunting for game, just in case the food was in meager supply.”

"The animals can be the wrong color, too! You can be walking along and all of sudden, there's a blue goose!" Oh, but he's more concerned with getting food from the animals. "I think the meat is the same way. If they don't have color when they're alive, they're not going to have color on the inside."

“My, it seems that I have entered into quite the whimsical world.” Not that that’s a bad thing for him to know. “What you speak of seems the stuff of fairy tales.”

"Exactly!" It might not have been said completely seriously, but it's a perfect understanding of Chroma. "If it would happen in a fairy tale, it could happen here! We get fairy tale things like unicorns in the forest and fairy tale lessons like 'be careful what you wish for.'"

“I must admit that that is a relief to hear. Fairy tales make things easier to predict.” And it even gives him a vague—but totally inaccurate—assessment of what this strange place he’d been dropped into must be.

“But come. I’m sure I’d be delighted to see your blue cinnamons and geese.”

"I said I'd show you around, didn't I?" He's still taking his tour guide role seriously. It's off to show him blue things that shouldn't be blue.

And they walk off into the sunset and Keigo probably gets chased by a goose.
