t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. [ it’s sweet. dextera is no stranger to being told what to do, and even insulted for it, but it’s different when there’s a mutual trust between the two. if guren said any of those things to him, after all, he would be inclined to take it just as a cautious fretting. ]

That sounds… like him.

[ he’s just going to usher yuu along back to guren’s house, where he can maybe babysit for a while, since guren is likely to be helping everyone else around town. the laptops can come later. ]

( dextera is (for now) enough to keep his attention so this is fine. once they reach guren's house, there's a moment where yuu stares up at it, squints. )

Oooh, this is where it was hiding.

( will he remember his way back? only time will tell. )

Hey, how do you do that talking with your hands thing?

[ good luck, yuu…

at that question, dextera eases a bit—not that he was tense, but there’s something a little nerve-wracking talking about guren with someone who has known him for much longer than dextera has. there’s no need to prove himself when they’re talking about sign language! ]

A friend… taught it to me.

[ he wasn’t born this way, and he misses his voice desperately, but this has been a good compromise for communication. ]

[culpa]

( if yuu were a better child, he would ask dex to teach him, too. to show him how the heck he does that. but yuu, being himself, knows he'd just get confused trying to learn and it's probably as difficult as learning like. kanji. which he still hasn't completely gotten down, thanks. )

Because you can't talk?

Haha…

[ from anyone else, it’s not that he’d be offended, but maybe it would be difficult to talk about. after all, the loss of his voice is a delicate subject for those that know why, but of course it’s nothing that yuu could be expected to know immediately after arriving.

so he nods. ]

I can’t use my voice.

( weird, but. yuu doesn't quite catch onto those social queues, since dex is answering, and doesn't look too bothered by the question. so he continues on. )

Why? Did you lose it?

[ at least he’s astute in his guesses, even if they’re tactless. it’s just that in some odd way of their own, the questions are welcome. like yuu isn’t going to think any differently of him with or without his voice.

he nods. ]

Guren knows what it sounds like. [ he says it simply because it’s relatable, and intriguing. ] But he’s the only one.

[culpa]

( what the heck guren. why does he know weird stuff like how someone's voice sounds but no one else knows. is he playing around with drugs like that one person said? well whatever. maybe they're just great friends and this dude somehow managed to allow guren to listen to it even if he lost it.

makes complete sense. )

Seems like Guren knows a lot of stuff. And that you know a lot about him.

[ funny how these things work!

dextera pauses at that, because it’s true that guren knows a lot of stuff—but he’s really not sure that the opposite is the same. he wonders how much there is about guren that he doesn’t know. ]

[ he shakes his head. ]

We’ve gotten close. That’s all.

So you're really really good friends.

( okay, a little weird for guren, but not like. super out of the ordinary. just mostly. guren is a pretty great dude, the idea of him making new friends isn't weird especially considering how much he pushed the idea of friendship onto yuu, but. )

Has he been okay?

[passio]

[ really good friends is the way dextera would prefer to put it, yes. it feels weird not just coming out and saying it, but that’s guren’s business—his responsibility, and his leisure, in a way, to tell yuu when he thinks it’s time.

the next question, however, gets him to pause. ]

[ is guren ever okay, really? has there ever been a time where he was completely fine, whether in his world or this one? probably not, but relative to the tragedy that plagues his life constantly…

yeah. maybe he’s been okay. ]

He’s… tired. He does too much.

( it's an honest answer. one yuu appreciates, too. he's--a little naive when it comes to observing behaviors, figuring out what's going on with people. reading guren has always been a little difficult, too. it's just guren's nature to hide stuff, after all.

but yuu won't let him fight stuff alone. they're a team, regardless of what comes out of guren's mouth. and he'll fight beside him for as long as it takes. )

I'll keep an eye on him. I won't let Guren overwork himself.

[ even if they just met, dextera trusts yuu, with that kind of task. if two people are riding him constantly on taking breaks, eating meals, making time for himself, then surely he’ll have to give in eventually.
