Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Meanwhile, the current characters have some new gifts.

If there are any questions, please ask them here, and have fun! Thank you!

[Once he's let go, he doesn't even rub his arm. For such a skinny stick of a vampire, it really didn't seem to do him any harm. He falls into his walk like this entire exchange never happened.

At home, maybe somebody would be outraged that he went through this, but here it's just Valvatorez. And he's not even upset. It's good that humans these days are worried about each other. There was too little of that at home. In the end, he's learned more about this human's character... and he likes what he sees.]

Very well.

[Out of the corner of his eye he sees something flick past. It's too big to be a butterfly. Where there's one, there's probably more.]

Did you see that?
fivefingerdeathpunch: frozen with shock and/or fear (my earballs!)

[Jotaro catches only a glimpse at first, still too weirded out with himself for willingly working with a vampire to give their surroundings his full attention. He readies Star Platinum as soon as he realizes his error, scans the forest, and catches sight of something zipping by, small and monochrome and vaguely humanoid if not for the wings. He could see himself taking it for a Stand on a less bizarre day, but--oh, there's another one hiding in the undergrowth, and he thinks he hears a third--]

I think they found us.

[He doesn't close his eyes but he does reach for his sword. A long, heavy thing that doesn't look like it would've fit anywhere on him. These fairies don't seem friendly.]

Good, it means we don't have to find them.

[He raises his sword and rushes forward, easily felling one of the fairies. Some of them seem to have disappeared.]

Invisibility?
fivefingerdeathpunch: Jotaro with his Stand, Star Platinum, visible at his shoulder (so darlin darlin)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-16 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[A sword from nowhere is fucking weird, if not out of line with the things Jotaro's seen, so he decides he can be curious about it later. When there aren't fairies that turn invisible to deal with.

Star Platinum comes out again, jabbing a fist at a fairy that appears within its reach. The hit sends the fairy tumbling backward, but doesn't knock it out of the air, which is... troubling.]

My Stand isn't affecting them like it should. Was there anything about them on that quest thing other than that we have to defeat them?

[Val seems to be swinging at whatever fairies happen to be closest to him. The ones he hits seem to tumble to the ground, either dead or dazed.

Except he doesn't see the one that touches the back of his neck. Casting its magic on him.

He can't speak? He turns to talk to Jotaro, but the fairy cast something like silence...]
fivefingerdeathpunch: Star Platinum focused on something (anomaly detected!)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[When no response comes, Jotaro looks over to see what's up and finds Val completely failing to talk. He has zero familiarity with video game-style status effects, but he knows a thing or two about technically weak opponents having nasty tricks up their sleeves, and this seems to fit the bill nicely.]

Good grief.

[He swats at another several fairies with Star Platinum, but once again they aren't as phased as they are by Val's sword--in fact, there's something almost mocking about the way they flutter and roll and disappear. It's enough for him to start suspecting a pattern, so he reaches into his pocket and pulls out some loose change.

And then a fairy appears at his shoulder, because we can't make this too easy.]

[At the very least, he doesn't need to speak to bat the fairies out of the sky. But without his voice, communication is less than ideal.

He doesn't know a thing about these fairies, but according to his world's rules, things that cast are weak to being beaten down.

Even if he sees the fairy at Jotaro's shoulder, there's nothing he can do to warn him until after it casts its spell.]
fivefingerdeathpunch: Jotaro grimacing and a little scared (if I die hide my fanfic)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-17 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[The fairy smacks Jotaro in the face, then flutters back and disappears again. It doesn't even hurt at that size, but Jotaro suddenly can't seem to think straight, and when he tries to throw one of his coins at the fairy with Star Platinum, it goes straight for Val instead.

Confusion is a hell of a drug.]

[personal profile] promissum 2018-09-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Val doesn't see it while he's busy trying to bat the fairies away. The coin does hit him, but it doesn't seem to do much to him otherwise.

... Did he even notice he was hit by a coin? It's hard to say.

But he does turn back towards Jotaro, now that most of the fairies near him are defeated. He's sure more of them will show up soon enough.

"What happened to you?" His voice is still shot, so he can only gesture at his temporary comrade.]
fivefingerdeathpunch: open-mouthed shock (chicky bickies!)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-17 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
["I was a dumbass" would be the answer if Jotaro's brain weren't addled, but as it is he fires another coin, this one blasting into a tree instead of hitting the fairy he thought he was aiming at.]

Hold still, you little-- [He words are slurring a little, like he's tired or drunk, and he doesn't even register Val trying to get his attention.]
promissum: (Neutral)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-09-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
[It's hard to tell exactly what's wrong with him. It clearly isn't what happened to Val.

As much as the coin didn't do much to him he's pretty sure Jotaro is a hazard for anybody else who encounters him like this.

He can't yell to get his attention and attacking him directly seems immediately like a terrible decision. They haven't finished clearing this area of fairies just yet.

Val has no ability to heal anyone but himself either. So his best option is... what?

He moves towards Jotaro and... starts shaking him gently. At the very least he'll get his attention, right?]
fivefingerdeathpunch: Star Platinum catching something tiny before it reaches Jotaro's ear (do more trust falls Karen)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-17 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Honestly, it probably shouldn't work. There's no shock to Val shaking him, nothing to jar Jotaro's mind back into order in a traditional sense, but Jotaro's a giant marshmallow who's easily reassured by reminders that he isn't alone. His mind clears a little, enough that the next coin hits its intended target--and this time, the fairy falls to the ground and stays there.]

Thanks.

[Another fairy appears on Jotaro's other side, but this time he's ready and hits it before it can get him.]

[personal profile] promissum 2018-09-17 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Honestly he's surprised that worked at all. He was expecting a punch to the face or something along those lines. It's not something he'll question much.

They seem... okay? For now, at least. He doesn't see any more fairies, but they've clearly demonstrated their ability to go invisible.

Are they really done?

He'll look up at Jotaro for a signal.]
fivefingerdeathpunch: chin on fist and just done with everything (so ANYWAY me and Janice were like)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-17 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Jotaro scans the forest, but he's not seeing anything either. He shoots a look at Val, then says, in a flat tone and loud enough to be heard clearly in case anything is lingering:]

It sure is a good thing those fairies are gone. I don't think I could fight off any more of them with just my Stand to protect me.

[...Still nothing. Either the fairies are really gone, or they're not dumb enough to fall for such shitty acting.]
promissum: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] promissum 2018-09-17 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
[That's one way to get a fairies attention. Since they felled so many of their kind, he doesn't think more are going to come out.

Unfortunately, his voice is still gone. So he has to settle with shrugging and pointing back at the town.

Ready to go?]
fivefingerdeathpunch: a neutral expression at an angle because Jotaro is way too tall (really really ridiculously tall-looking)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-17 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, let's get out of here.

[They didn't get too far into the forest, so it's easy to start making their way back to what passes for civilization around here. Jotaro is way more confident than anyone who nearly got their ass kicked should be--he knows to be more careful next time, and that's way more important than how little he contributed to the fight.]

[personal profile] promissum 2018-09-17 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He's trying very hard to speak the entire time they walk back to the town. It takes him until they get there until his voice returns.] fairies- It's back! The fairies seem weak to physical attacks, in case you want to do this quest again.
fivefingerdeathpunch: more hat-tugging (that chocolate-crispy taste)

[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch 2018-09-17 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
[It seems like a weird place for the spell to wear off, but Jotaro makes a note of it anyway.]

I'd figured that out. Didn't do me much good, but if I do do it again I'll know to watch my back and bring something I can whack 'em with.

[Mister Magically-Appearing-Sword Guy.]

[Listen here Jojo: game mechanics.]

You could get away with just punching them. Things that rely on magic are often weak to physical attacks and vice versa.
