Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Meanwhile, the current characters have some new gifts.

If there are any questions, please ask them here, and have fun! Thank you!

[Please, Reim already has three brothers, what will he do with a fourth--]

To see the "internet"? [He fingerquotes this with one hand, a gentle self-burn of his total technological ignorance here. It's all good.] That would be helpful, thank you.

Something like that, yeah.

[Well, at least the young man has a sense of humour, even in this strange predicament. He leads him over to the door, surveying the house dubiously.]

Looks like the place could use some work... Are you sure you still want to trade places?
allweather: (me staring at constant bandages)

[Oh, hmm, yes, this house is considerably more run down than the one he apparently belongs to in Ruga. If he knew the secret to house restoration in this town he'd share it, but for now, this is just kind of a crap house.]

I don't know if I can condone anyone living in a place like this, now that I'm seeing it up close... Are you going to be alright here?

[He looks like a strong wind could give him a run for his money, that's all.]

It's not exactly going to shape up to be like my apartment back home, but it'll do.

[He heads inside, looking around. Maybe once it was a cosy little cottage, but as it stands now, it's just as shabby inside as outside, a thin layer of dust covering most things except a laptop lying on a table.]

Oh, there it is. Guess that's for me? [He moves over to open it up. While it boots up, a thought occurs to him--] Ah! Sorry, I invited you to my house and didn't even ask your name...
allweather: (!)

[personal profile] allweather 2018-09-10 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Really... it's so dusty... Reim follows inside, glancing around before he comes over to peer at the laptop. Yes, he totally understands these things, for sure. Hmm.]

Oh-- it's Reim! Reim Lunettes. And on the personal computers, I'm apparently going by "CC3300."

[Which, naturally, he has memorized already.]

I'm Toshinori Yagi. My friends just call me Toshinori.

[Is that an invitation to be a friend? It might be. Anyway, his laptop loads up and he peers at the screen, scratching his head.]

Looks like I'm "FFFF00"... At least it's easy to remember. [Why they couldn't just make up their own screennames instead of getting weird codes is beyond him, though that would make too much sense for a place like this.]
allweather: (that yaoi hand)

[personal profile] allweather 2018-09-12 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[It must be an invitation to be friends, because that gives Reim a fair enough excuse to come by at a later date and express his deep concerns about dust and how crap this house is. Later.]

I'm told they don't mean anything in particular. [He was... kind of hoping for ciphers... alas.] I suppose it's convenient to have this much provided to us.

[personal profile] smaaaaaash 2018-09-12 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He didn't invite you to be a Mom Friend, gosh...!]

Hmm... I don't know if it's convenient as much as unsettling. It's like whoever dragged us here had everything set up in advance.

[And if a villain is behind all this, one who doesn't show themselves or make their intentions immediately clear is far more dangerous. He doesn't like it.]
allweather: (this isn't the icon i thought it was)

[personal profile] allweather 2018-09-12 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Didn't he, though?!]

Well... I was hoping to keep my spirits a little higher, but you have a point. I've only learned that the person supposedly in charge can contact us, but can't be contacted in turn.

[Mildly terrifying, but then again, shadowy organizations are starting to feel par for the course after what he's been through at home.]

[personal profile] smaaaaaash 2018-09-12 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Kidnapping people and holding them against their will is the act of a criminal... No, more likely a powerful villain. It's better to be realistic about the situation, so we can be better prepared, not just blindly going along with anything they ask us to do.

[Oops, he's being a downer, isn't he. He sighs.] Well, that's what I think, but I'm sure we'll figure things out.
allweather: (hurt still)

[personal profile] allweather 2018-09-13 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[A powerful villain... Now it sounds like a storybook, but he'll politely not call out that dorky vocabulary. It's definitely a Bad Person, kidnapping so many people.]

Hold on, could you be referring to the "quests"...? I don't disagree with you, but evidently not playing along with those "quests" can end badly for us, regardless of what they are.

[He's been here for a day and already he's infodumping. Well. He wrote it all down.]

Already, it's getting ridiculous...
smaaaaaash: (014)

[personal profile] smaaaaaash 2018-09-15 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I figured. In a hostage situation, ensuring everyone's safety takes precedence, even if that means playing along with unreasonable demands...

[...Although if this is a hostage situation, what is he supposed to do when he's also one of the hostages? Even with all his years of hero experience, this place has thrown him for a loop. It's a frustrating experience, not being able to immediately help people like usual.

Oh, right, he's spacing out when Reim is still here, isn't he? He offers an apologetic look.]

Sorry, I got a little sidetracked. Take a seat, and I'll show you how to use this.
allweather: (GILBERT)

[personal profile] allweather 2018-09-15 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods seriously like he knows exactly what hostage situations are like-- and he does, somewhat, if a sample size of one counts for anything. It should, therefore - he understands, for the most part.

And he just waits politely until the conversation comes back around... aha. Excellent!!]

Right! I'm in your care.

[It's just a laptop. Endure.]
smaaaaaash: (041)

[personal profile] smaaaaaash 2018-09-15 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll show you the basics, then you can take over.

[He starts by showing him what everything on the keyboard does, then explains the forum setup, how to click on things to navigate them, and how posts and their responses work, both with how to read them, and how to type and send a reply. It's a little weird seeing everyones' fonts being tied to a set colour, but then, there's nothing normal about this setup in the least.

Once he's done with his (hopefully not confusing) explanation, he passes the laptop to Reim.]

Do you want to try? I don't mind if you want to practice posting things with my username.
allweather: (squints)

[personal profile] allweather 2018-09-18 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Thankfully, Reim is a quick study, as long as he doesn't think too hard about how electricity works when this thing is plugged into nothing and also he doesn't really get electricity that much anyway, too new.

So he takes some notes on the basic functions, and then suddenly there's a laptop being passed to him and he just looks at it for a moment. He presses a key, and then a few more, and then he's typed out "reim" because...]

...I'm not sure what I should write about.
smaaaaaash: (087)

[personal profile] smaaaaaash 2018-09-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Writing his name is a good start! He tries to offer an encouraging smile, even if he can't quite hide his surprise at just how unfamiliar with the technology Reim is.]

Ah, well, people use these things in a similar way to talking to others face to face. Only in this case, what you post is public. Some people use it to share news or information, others might just want conversation, maybe serious discussion. Some might want to share their interests with other people...

Why don't you start just by introducing yourself? Keep it simple.

[This is the Victorian lifestyle, big guy. Vague plucking at keys and abject wonder at light up screens. At least he's seen a typewriter before, but even those are kind of new and exciting.]

In that case, shouldn't I use my own...? [He pokes at the keys again, anyway, but all he actually does is hit enter a few times.] Or simply go outside and meet someone.

[You kids and your internet.]
