Little Willie, mean as hell, Pushed his sister in a well. Mother said, while drawing water, "My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. I did not mean any harm. [The arm folds carefully back beneath the cloak, and the rest of him is hidden when it settles around his shoulders again.] It is the best place to see most of the town.

I'm not accustomed to the architecture here. I'm use to shrines being sacred places... They do not look like this building.

[withwisdom]

Hm, I see.

[ so to him it was just another building. she can forgive that. she's just feeling a little more sensitive about it than usual if she's being completely honest with herself, but she's not going to unload on a stranger. ]

This building is called a church. It's a temple of worship. ...While I understand your reason for standing on top of it, I urge you not to do so often. We should respect the foundations we have.

[ even if she doesn't hold much belief and faith in the higher powers that be of this world, that's no reason to take it out on the sacred grounds. ]

[ninjanature]

[Slowly, Sasuke lifts his head and peers at the building he had been on and come off of in the span of a few minutes. A "church," huh?]

Fair enough.

[Maybe he's biased. He thinks he prefers shrines and temples a little more. He isn't particularly religious necessarily, so in the end, it doesn't matter much to him.] My family had a shrine of their own at one time. [He looks back at Zelda again.]

Are you a priestess?

[withwisdom]

No. [ this is only a question she is asked, like, always here and it's all her fault honestly. sometimes she debates saying 'yes' but she doesn't want to lie. ] I was given spiritual training for a good deal of my life, but I wouldn't say I am a priestess.

A shrine though? Was it large or small?

[ninjanature]

I see.

The shrine was smaller, one created by and for my clan. Only an Uchiha could enter, knowing seals passed down by generations.

A stone monument inside had our clan's secrets which could only be read by special dojutsu, or eye techniques. Many clans had similar shrines and similar monuments.

[He hasn't been inside this church yet. He wonders if it, too, has secrets like theirs.]

[withwisdom]

Hm. It sounds similar to the old shrines in my home. Only a chosen warrior of pure heart could ever open the gate, and reveal the secrets held for ten thousand years within.

[ not even she's been inside, and so what she can tell him past that is sadly limited. ]

Such shrines don't exist in this town to my best knowledge. The building ahead is in disrepair, though still sturdy in standing.

[ninjanature]

You don't know anything about this building, but you care enough to respect it.

[There's strangely no question involved in this at all... perhaps only an observation. He turns his dark eye from the church to her, looking her over briefly.]

Do you plan to take care of it?

[withwisdom]

To my best ability. Though I am by no means the owner - a place of worship belongs to everyone, not one alone.

[ if others want to tidy it up, improve on it, she would only ever encourage it. ]

[ninjanature]

[Sasuke offers a soft "hm" sounding noise of agreement. New arriving, the others' work on the town seems... strange, unnecessary. And yet being here for as long as people have claimed to be here...]

I guess there's not much else to do other than rebuild what's here.

[withwisdom]

There's no reason to not the way I see. If we have been whisked away to live here, we should make it livable.

[ not for the sake of any higher powers, or quest rewards, but because it's the right thing to do. ]

...You must be a newcomer, right? [ someone as gloomy looking as him would be hard to miss. ] My name is Zelda. It's nice to make your acquaintance.

[ninjanature]

I am. [But he doesn't seem bothered by it. Zelda receives a deep nod of greeting, something polite but nothing very intimate.] Sasuke.

[She hadn't offered a surname, so he simply leaves his off for brevity. He'd also rather not have people call him "Mr. Uchiha" even if he'll just get "Mr. Sasuke"d in the end probably.]

Let me guess, you've been here for four to six months?

[withwisdom]

Four. I was in the second group to arrive here. [ she grins, surprised he made a well educated guess. ] You're remarkably calm for the situation. I'm impressed.

[ninjanature]

[Four. Hm. It gives him a bit of a timeline to work by. He still thinks six months is a long time, and four isn't much better.

But... after being gone almost ten years for a huge chunk of time, he's not scared by the prospect. Only... irritatedly inconvenienced.]

There's no point in getting upset. Why? Have you had a lot of people who are being irrational?

[withwisdom]

There's a little bit of a point in getting upset.

[ goodness he really is the stalwart type huh? ]

Not a lot, but not everyone adjusts very quickly to the idea of being away from their entire world. [ the poor girl with green hair in particular, but she's had to prove to others the situation at hand. ] I guess you've just seen so much it doesn't phase you.

[ look, she's not judging, she was a little the same too. ]

[ninjanature]

[Well... Zelda isn't wrong, and maybe that's the real sting. So he doesn't answer for a long stretch of time, instead turning his head to look away. She caught him.

Sasuke Uchiha, been through some Shit.]

It's fine to be homesick. [His voice is quiet.] It's fine to be angry or sad. But being a nuisance here won't be helpful. Being scared makes you disorganized.

I'm unable to control the destination of my dimensional portals. I'll be of little help until I can.

[withwisdom]

...Nonsense. As long as you're willing to help others, that makes you all the help we need.

[ she doesn't know anything about those dimensional portals he mentioned, but she can't abide by someone thinking they're useless just because their power may not work. that sort of mindset is simply... awful, she knows too well. ]

[ninjanature]

[Ahh... Too pure. He doesn't deserve this at all.]

I plan to do what I can. [He's the Hokage's shadow? Works from the background, the sidelines.] But I'll leave most to the rest of you. I think you can handle it.

There's quite a few of you here who are powerful and cunning. Including yourself. Right?

[withwisdom]

[ hm! ]

There are a lot of fighters here, yes. Most seem to favor some variety of a sword as their weapon of choice, but others can use magic. You'll find there's no short supply of powerful and cunning types.

[ that completely and definitely answered his question. ]

[ninjanature]

[It's fine. He's actually probably one of the most overpowered pieces of garbage here. He's just playing along a little to see if she'll tell him anything he doesn't know and can't see with the sharingan or rinnegan.]

I see. [This place has a handful then.] Has a leader been appointed?

[withwisdom]

[ i, for one, hate that you're probably right about that. ]

We have no leader. We self-govern as a community, primarily in pressing matters. No one here should be held above others in my opinion. Especially not when people can disappear at any moment without warning.

[ninjanature]

[It's different for him, not to have some kind of leader. Not to have a daimyo, or, more closely, not to have a hokage. His world has battled for a very long time over leadership, over positions of power.

It isn't that he believes there should be one, only he is interested in figuring out what it's like to experience a place without one.]

People disappear at random?

[withwisdom]

Yes. We know it isn't a typical kidnapping because even any means of contacting them over the forums will vanish as well.

[ and, this is going to sound dubious, because it is - ]

We suspect it means they have returned to their realm, but we don't have a way to prove that.

[ninjanature]

Mm. [A relief, though not for the rest of the people here. Well... maybe a relief for them, in a way, but envy in another.

His lips pull into a frown.] I'll look into it, but I'm sure some of the rest of you are already doing that much.

I might be able to see something important with the sharingan or rinnegan.

[withwisdom]

I suppose those must be your special power? Technique? [ she smiles a little slyly. ] Whatever you can find, anything at all, will be helpful. There are a lot of mysteries to this realm we have yet to uncover.

[ninjanature]

[ :eyes: ]

I've heard a few already from some others. [Thanks, he hates it.] It seems we have a job to do before we're able to leave.
