Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Meanwhile, the current characters have some new gifts.

If there are any questions, please ask them here, and have fun! Thank you!

[Someone around her age making a pop culture reference is definitely the most normal thing that's happened to her today, and while it doesn't exactly calm her down, it's certainly welcome compared to everything else. Even so, she looks down at herself with a frown, hands on her hips.]

I absolutely mind that, but I also mind freezing to death, so. It's a real toss up.

[That's punctuated by a fairly stressed sigh, as she thinks for a moment. Either she doesn't come to a decision or she gets distracted by another thought, because the topic shifts when she speaks again.]

...You didn't come out of the well, though. How long have you been here?

[ he lets out a short, quiet breath of laughter at her deadpan comment, following it up with the kinda headbob that almost universally means "yeah, you got a point!" and then the topic shifts, and welp, it's time to be on the other side of the fresh out the well 20 questions game. ]

Yeah, trust me, I did my time down that well already. [ 0/10, would not recommend! ] I think it's been a couple months by now? I haven't been keeping an exact count, but there's people who've been here longer than that.

[After he speaks, she takes a moment to think about what he’s told her, frowning as she crosses her arms. It’s not exactly a comforting answer, but it’s better to be prepared, she figures.]

How long is longer than that? Are we talking, like, years for this completely involuntary and yet somehow extended stay...?

[That’s the first question that comes to mind after his answer, but it’s not difficult to guess from her expression that she has a good deal more to follow. Godspeed, Michael.]

[ he shrugs, looking kinda uncomfortable with the prospect himself. ]

I honestly don't know. I think the longest anyone's been here by now is around [ he pauses to think, counting in his head and remembering previous conversations ] half a year.

[ beat. ]

Hey, not for nothin', 'cause I totally get that you have a ton of questions, but you wanna try and find those spare clothes while you ask them?

...That's actually probably less than I was expecting, even if that's still definitely what I would consider not great.

[She nods, though, to his second point; it's getting fairly cold, given her wet clothing.]

Sounds like as good a plan as any. I guess that means the question to start with is, which way are we going? [And, after a beat:] Also, considering everything that's happened today, I feel like I'm obligated to at least ask if you're a kidnapper and/or murderer before I wander off with you.

[It's clear from her tone, at least, that she's not serious.]

I mean, obviously not, but I feel like that's also exactly what an actual kidnapper and/or murderer would say. [ but his tone is as equally not-serious as he starts walking at a leisurely pace down the street. ] I'm Michael, by the way. And uh, I think there's an old general store kinda thing down this way that might still have some stuff inside, so we can look there first if you're cool with it.

This is probably the part where I bluff and say I have a black belt, or whatever.

[Similarly to her last words, there's a light, joking tone. Regardless, she glances towards him as they start to walk.]

Natalie. And... Yeah, if you think that's the best bet to start with, that sounds good.

I mean, the alternative's we go full teen delinquent and start raiding all the abandoned houses we can find. [ feels kinda ghoulish, though, even if everything seems long abandoned. ]

So, since you got my reference I'm guessing you're from some version of Earth?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid because I woke up in a well, but that sounds like a recipe for disaster, so let's avoid that idea.

[She pauses for a moment as he continues, and it takes a second for the implication to hit her. Once it does, though, she's speaking quickly.]

Wait. Are there people here who aren't from Earth? [...] No, hang on, better question. Are there aliens here?

I dunno about aliens exactly, but there's people not from Earth, sure. We're all from a bunch of different dimensions. Y'know, just in case your day wasn't weird enough already.
