Pushed his sister in a well. Mother said, while drawing water, "My, it's hard to raise a daughter." | |
Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here! |

ii. an unexpected trip

with everyone else clearing out, though, assuming a job well done… whoops! ]
…?
[ dextera peeks into the well, but he honestly can’t see anything down there. his head, however, is probably silhouetted against the light. ]
Re: i!
> "Um, is someone there?"
[ Ari's voice normally doesn't carry well (ha), but he's fortunate that the confined space helps direct the sound toward the top. ]

…
[ without another option, dextera just tries dropping one of the old ropes down to the bottom. hopefully it doesn’t break! ]

... Is sitting in the middle of nowhere common for you?
Re: ii
> "I-I'm sorry!"
[ The flustered boy scrambles as well, albeit wincing a little as he does so, to get up and offer the indignant lady a hand in shameful apology.
He mumbles a weak explanation: that he was just trying to air out his socks and shoes and didn't think anyone would come this way. ]

Ah.]
Hey... do you want to borrow these?
[Minato's got a pair of socks!! It's a weird thing to carry around, until you realize that people always arrive via the well and always get out waterlogged. Sadly he's already given away his last towel, but hey.
A pair of socks is nothing to sniff at.]
At least until yours are more dry.
Re: ii.
Ari definitely still jolts, caught off-guard by the sudden voice, but the boy has been spared some misfortune this day by the observant protagonist. ]
> "Oh... thank you."
[ Although his eyes are wide and his heart is racing for the scare, ultimately the boy offers Minato a sheepish smile as he accepts the unexpected gift.
The socks are... hm. The tap dancing skeletons remind him of someone from back home—James, his master's butler who also happens to be an animated skeleton himself. Probably not tap dancing though. Probably.
Ari pulls them on his feet, grateful to his generous savior. ]
> "It was wet down there."
no subject
Yeah, wells tend to be pretty wet. They wouldn't be very useful if they weren't. [That... is he joking... is he serious...]
It's not a great way to arrive somewhere, but at least you don't have to go down there again if you don't want to.

Are you sure you didn’t mean “Lassie, get help”?
[Or so she says, even with the lack of dogs around as she’s shooting her gun at a nearby tree, nanowire coming out and wrapping tight around the trunk. Still, she doesn’t know who’s down there so she gives a hard tug to make sure it’s firmly in place and not likely to break.]
Re: I.
Probably not the question he should be asking, considering he's lucky anyone dropped at at all, but confusion briefly overtakes his relief. ]
> "Um, is someone up there?"
[ It sounds like it, but hopefully they're here to help and not just heckle him for being stuck in a well. ]
Re: I.
We’re not going to just leave if there’s still someone here. [One last tug and she pulls the gun towards the lip of the well.] I’m coming down so try to move as far over to the side as possible.

And silently offering him a towel. Just in case any part of him is still wet. ]
Re: iii
> "Thank you."
[ Ari accepts the towel gratefully. His pants are still wet from the knee-down, and he'd rather kneel and try to blot them dry with the towel than take them off.
Shoes are one thing, but he draws the line at pants. ]

The well was where they came from, but it didn't have any leads back home.
So he trips over Ari without noticing he's there.]
Lad, what are you doing in the middle of the street?
Re: ii
He's distracted from his hopeless quest when a vampire trips right over him.
The boy yelps, surprised, his alarm soon turning into flustered dismay when he realizes the other person might be hurt. Fortunately, they seem to be fine? ]
> "Oh, um. Drying off?"
[ This town is so strange and run down that he didn't realize it was a street he was sitting in the middle of, exactly. ]
no subject
You should move out of the way before more people trip over you.
... Fires are usually best for the drying off business.

But there will be time for brooding about that later. He finds his laptop and takes a seat the dusty old table, getting his assigned colour -- #FFFF00 -- and clicking through to see just how far the internet extends here.]
It's just a forum...? What's the point?
[As he's muttering to himself, the fact his house might be inhabited by someone else completely escapes his notice. In fact, he won't immediately notice if Ari is in the same room as him.]
Re: iii
He did eventually follow the directions of the letter he found tucked neatly within his vest. The letter leads him to the Flavo district, and even though the gray and colorless scenery is strange, Ari feels slightly more at home here than he did elsewhere in Town. It's closer to what he's used to, back home. ]
> "Is this...?"
[ Ari checks the letter again, just to be sure, but he thinks he's come across the right house. It's with only mild trepidation that he heads inside, soon relieved to find no ghosts or monsters waiting for him. The cottage is dusty, clearly in disrepair, but he's seen worse.
He finds his laptop—and another, although he leaves it be—and wonders what sort of ancient technology this could possibly be. It seems more complicated than the voice recorder, after all.
After a little trial and error, Ari figures out that the device connects to some sort of... record of peoples' conversations. It reminds him of a book, only instead of paper, the words show up on this device's screen. He may not realize the significance yet, but his laptop is tied to the color #FFEE00.
Ari closes his laptop, tucking it under his arm. He's decided to explore the rest of the house he's apparently going to be living in from now on, but before he can take even one step, the front door suddenly opens. Ari freezes.
What happens next he's not even sure how to describe, but he can only stare with widened eyes as the scene plays out. Once the man leaves
out a window in the back, Ari isn't at all sure if he should breathe a sigh of relief. Is he... gone? Will he becoming back? There is second strange device on the table, after all.The answer to both of those questions is yes, it turns out. Ari puts his plans to explore the house on hold, instead hovering uncertainly in the front room in case of the man's return, and sure enough the door does eventually open again.
This time, he comes in like he belongs here, sitting down at the table and claiming the second device. As the man mutters to himself, Ari hesitantly tries to speak up. ]
> "Um... hello...?"
no subject
--Who's there?!
[He turns around, noticing the boy who looks like he's been standing there the whole time watching. Which definitely isn't creepy at all. Coughing and wiping blood from his mouth, he laughs sheepishly.]
A-ah, hello there, young man... I don't remember leaving the door open...?
[He's trying to ask in the nicest way possible: where did you come from and why the hell are you in my house???]
