Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Meanwhile, the current characters have some new gifts.

If there are any questions, please ask them here, and have fun! Thank you!

I intend to figure that out, once I've helped everyone else get out. [There's a pause, while he thinks about it some more.] And I'll need full witness statements from everyone. Someone here might know something about exactly who has done this, and why.

[He looks her over, though he doesn't seem suspicious.]

I'm guessing you don't remember anything?

...I don't have any witness statement to give. I didn't witness anything. I just suddenly showed up here.

[As though mimicking his action, she looks him over as well, then glances up at the spot of sunlight above them.]

You, too?
usedlick: (this town don't look good in snow)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-09 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Correct.

[He also looks up, immediately calculating how far it is from them to the top of the well. It will take some doing, but he thinks he can climb it.]

I assumed I had been tampered with to remove any memory of how I was brought here, but it sounds like whoever put us here was able to do the same to everyone.

[She'd realized that she didn't remember how she got here, of course, but it's not until he mentions it that she realizes that it might mean her memories were lost in some way. For whatever reason, that changes her demeanor instantly; where before she looked frustrated enough to be forceful, now she seems more uncertain.]

...Tampered with?

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-09 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Right.

[He reaches up and taps a finger underneath the glowing LED light on his temple. Right now it's started flashing a shade of yellow.]

If a hacker or mechanic was able to access my memory banks, it wouldn't be all that difficult. But for a human, erasing someone's memory is generally impossible. I suppose whoever did this could have inhibited you with drugs or knocked you out, so you wouldn't be aware you were being transported.

[Yeah, just... casually bring up the idea that she might have been drugged or attacked to a teenager. This is a good idea.]

—Okay, first off, who are you and what the fuck did you just do.

[That reaction is due to her coming from somewhere where technology won't be advanced enough for such advanced androids for a long while. Regardless, she shakes her head maybe a bit too forcefully at his reasoning.]

No way. That's not true. Just - you said you were going to get people out of here, right? So just do it or whatever. I don't have time to listen to you.

[Denial's just a river in Egypt. An unusually salty river in Egypt.]
usedlick: (you're gonna go i know)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-09 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gets ready to explain that he's an android (though he's a bit confused that she doesn't already know that - androids are pretty ubiquitous by this point in his own timeline), but then she changes her mind. He frowns for a moment, before quickly moving on to the actual reason he approached her, in the first place.]

Right.

[He looks up at the opening of the well, calculating the distance to the top. If he can get her up to the narrow opening above, she can probably climb out herself from there.]

If I lift you up to that narrow part, can you climb up out of the well?
robitussin: (pic#12475588)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-09-09 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
...I don't need your help.

[She absolutely does need his help and she realizes it, but she wants to at least establish this (incorrect) fact before moving any further. Still, after a moment or two of glancing up at the opening, she gives a nod.]

But I'm not going to say no if you're offering, I guess. How are you going to get up after that, though?
usedlick: (ventura highway)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-09 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Connor waits a moment after she says that, because humans have a habit of saying that and then requesting help anyway. It's odd, but it's a pattern he's familiar with by now.]

I'll find a way. I'm not concerned about myself.

[At least not yet, anyway. Staying in this well for too long would be... inconvenient, but nothing he can't manage.]
robitussin: (pic#12531892)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-09-09 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Because you have weird robot powers or whatever?

[That's one way to put it. Regardless, she takes a step closer towards him.]

Boost me up whenever.
usedlick: (walkin down the road)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-10 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Android powers.

[Does it really matter when they're both machines? Whatever.

Anyway, he will cup his hands together, bending at his knees so she can step in. A quick pre-construction check confirms that she'll be able to reach the neck of the well - the rest is up to her after that.]
robitussin: (pic#12531881)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-09-10 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Close enough.

[Or so she assumes. She glances at his hands and moves forward, but she doesn't lift her foot quite yet. Even if she doesn't have much of a choice but to trust him here, she wants something said before she does.]

I'm going to be really pissed if you drop me. Okay?
usedlick: (and the days surround your daylight ther)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-10 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I won't drop you. Right now it is my mission to help you get to the top.

[And he has to follow his mission! He is, after all, an android.

So he'll sit here and wait patiently for her to step into his hands.]
robitussin: (pic#12531898)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-09-10 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[For whatever reason, she still looks nervous despite that extra assurance, but... Even so, she's reaching towards his arm to balance herself as she raises a foot into his cupped hands, glancing down at the water.]

Okay. Um, ready, or whatever.
usedlick: (the nights are stronger than moonshine)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-11 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Alright. Here we go...!

[And with that, he'll hoist her up! He is extremely steady, which is probably not surprising, being an android.

He'll hold her while she tries to grab onto the well, watching to make sure she doesn't slip.]

Can you make it?
robitussin: (pic#12475588)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-09-13 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's definitely not out of the realm of normal human strength, but she's athletic enough to start pulling herself up successfully from there. She's bracing herself to make sure she doesn't slip, glancing back down at him as she does.]

...Thanks.

[There's still embarrassment mixed in with the gratitude, but it doesn't stop her from going the rest of the way up the well.

...And then she waits at the top until he emerges to make sure he's going to make it up successfully. Not that she cares, or anything silly like that!!]
usedlick: (ventura highway)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-14 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[He does make it up successfully, several minutes later after making sure others are alright.

He scrambles not very graciously out of the well, tumbling over the side and falling on the ground before straightening back up. After he's back on his feet and dusted off, he spots her, a bit surprised she's still here.]

It's good that you're alright.
robitussin: (pic#12475588)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-09-16 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
[She glances his way as he makes it out of the well, but almost immediately, she's looking away in an attempt to pretend that she hasn't left the area solely because she's too busy examining her whereabouts. Whether or not that's convincing, she speaks up as he addresses her.]

Of course I am. It's not like it was hard to get out or anything. [...] This place is already pretty trippy, though.
usedlick: (this town don't look good in snow)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-18 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Was your first clue that we arrived in a well?

[This is a completely sincere question. He isn't capable of sarcasm (or is he?). But as he's looking around... it does seem like there are colors missing from certain objects. Maybe his vision is malfunctioning?

His eyelids flutter while he runs a quick scan, but... no, everything seems fine.]

Do some things seem to be... missing color, to you?
robitussin: (pic#12583106)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-09-19 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[It sounds sincere, but she still has to take a moment to deliberate about whether he's just using incredibly dry sarcasm. She shakes it off after a moment, smirking, and her next remark sounds approving despite what she actually says.]

Smartass.

[But after his question, she gives a quick nod, crossing her arms over her waist.]

Yeah. It's... [Weird doesn't begin to cover it.] It doesn't make any sense, does it?
usedlick: (the nights are stronger than moonshine)

[personal profile] usedlick 2018-09-20 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives her a grin, but it's only there for a moment, a quirk of his lips before it's back to serious.]

It doesn't. At first I thought I might be malfunctioning, but my diagnostics seem normal. [So that's good!] It doesn't seem like the light here is doing anything unusual, either.

[So how is it doing that?]
