Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Meanwhile, the current characters have some new gifts.

If there are any questions, please ask them here, and have fun! Thank you!

[ Well, she certainly wasn't expecting that -- the talking, not the cattitude. That's sort of universal with felines. Selina pulls back, arms crossing over her chest. ]

You'll have to forgive me, around here and back home, cats don't usually talk. But no, thanks, I'm good without the singing.

A pity! I do so love to sing.

[He says this sarcatstically, of course, because that's just how he is. But other cats in this place? Now that catches his attention! Not that he's feeling particularly sociable, but, uh, where there are cats, there are usually people who like to feed them, so...]

Tell me, are there many cats here? I've only just arrived, you see.

You came from the well. [ Obviously. ] Did you come alone, or do you have some kind of... companion here with you?

There are a few cats that came along with some of the other residents, a few that just sort of appeared after we arrived, and a few other domesticated animals, too. We have a cat at home that belongs to my kid, but uh, again... no talking cats.

[The fur along his spine bristles at the mention of a companion, because he, in typical Mogget fashion, automatically assumes the worst.]

Companion, or master? Someone to place a collar around my neck if I prove that I am not like one of your domesticated creatures? [He laughs, which is, like, half-cough, half-hiss. Cats.] No such luck! I am alone.

[And quite pleased about it, thank you very much.]

Yeesh, someone's touchy.

[ And the hands go up, Selina taking a demonstrative step back to show that she is going to back off. If anyone respects the felinekind and feline-alike, it's Selina Kyle, alright? ]

You can have a cat, but the cat isn't yours until it choose you. I have three back home and they go with me just about everywhere, but I've always got strays coming in and out. I'm very open window policy.

[There's a story to be told here, one about a cat-who-is-not-a-cat spending two thousand years as an unwilling servant, but that requires a maxed out social link. For now... hmph. HMPH. He settles for crossing his paws in front of him.]

If only others saw things so clearly. The length of the leash, the comfort of the collar—neither thing matters, for a cat is nothing like a dog.

[He's just sayin'. But after studying her for a moment longer, he (begrudgingly) decides to play nice.]

What may I call you?

[ Somehow, if the cats back home could talk, this is actually quite similar to what she'd imagine -- cats aren't the easiest creatures to win over and the alley cats are especially temperamental. ]

Of course not, dogs are the worst.

[ Selina kneels on the ground beside the cat, sitting on her knees. ]

I'm Selina, and you are...?

[Call him an alley cat to his face, Selina!]

Many things. [He lifts his head, eyes twinkling with mischief. Of course a cat enjoys being as mysterious as possible.] I have many names, as well, but I've forgotten most of them. You may call me Mogget.

[ Never! Not to his face, at least. ]

Mogget. It's a good name. [ She reaches her hand out for him, palm up the way you'd shake hands with your pet, sure, but for him? An offering of goodwill. ] It's very nice to meet you. I'm sorry about the well. Not exactly a fun way to wake up.

[For a moment it looks like he's going to ignore that gesture entirely, but then he slowly, carefully rests one paw on the very tips of her fingers.]

Why do humans apologize for things they have not done? Such a silly custom. [That's obviously cat for "It wasn't your fault, so don't worry about it."] Well met, Selina. I suppose we shall see one another a great deal, given the size of this town.

It's less apologizing for something I haven't done and more an expression of empathy for your present state of... well, soaked. We all arrived the same way.

[ Cats and water and all that. Sure, Selina'd love to vacation someplace warm with sun and sea and sand, she doesn't truly hate water, but you wake up somewhere cold and dark and see how you like it. ]

Oh, I'm sure we'll see each other around plenty.
