Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

[Funnily enough, this is not the first time he's dealt with a robot. But this is the first time he's spoken to one that could speak back or initiate conversation. If they weren't in a well, he'd be more interested.

If Conner looks at him, he's clearly not human, with the red eyes, the elfish ears, and the too long fangs in his mouth.]

I am Valvatorez. [Because if they're going to be speaking, they should have each other's names.]

Do you?

[Connor sees that. But some humans are really, really dedicated to cosplay. So far he has no reason to believe anything other than humans exist.]

Not at all. [He still isn't sure how he's going to get out of the well, but it's fine.] My priority at the moment is to assist civilians.

[On one hand, good that there's somebody trying to help people who are stuck down here.

On the other, Valvatorez looks startled to hear he's been lumped in with civilians.] I am not a civilian. I'm a Demon and I do not need assistance getting out of this well.

[A demon, huh? This guy really is dedicated. Or maybe he has some sort of mental disorder?]

I see. How do you intend to get out of the well?

[He's a little curious to see if he can actually do it.]

Watch carefully.

[So he really just... disappears into a colony of bats and the entire group of them flies up to the well entrance. Once he's out, he's back to his person shape.]

Like that!

[He is yelling, but only because he'd like Connor to be able to hear him.]

[And suddenly, Connor throws into doubt his certainty that demons don't exist. That was some pretty compelling evidence, after all. As long as his own eyes are to be trusted.

And so far he doesn't think his visual feeds are malfunctioning (give it time, though).]

I see!

[He's compelled to ask so many questions about what just happened, but he settles on the most important one first.]

Can you help others get out the same way?

I could!

[And since it's Val, what he really means is that he will. Being stuck in the bottom of a well isn't something he'd wish on most of his enemies.

It only takes him a moment to the back to the bottom of the well.]

[Connor waits for him to come down, then nods.]

That's useful. It would be a big help, if you could help others get out of here.

[And Connor will try to find a way to be useful too! Though he's pretty sure anything he can do would take a lot longer than what Valvatorez can do.]

Very well, I shall help you get everyone out of here.

... That includes you. [Just so they're clear on this.]

Appreciated, but I'd like to stay here until everyone else is out of the well. I'd also like to gather witness statements, if possible. There might be a clue as to how we got here.

[Someone must know something, right?]

[Maybe they do or maybe they don't. But Val has somebody to ask now.]

Do you remember anything that brought you to the bottom of the well?

I don't. [He remembers leaving the Stratford Tower, getting into Hank's car, and... not a lot after that. They were on their way somewhere, that much he's sure of, but he's also pretty sure that destination wasn't the bottom of the well.]

I was in the middle of a very important investigation back home. Needless to say, a detour to the bottom of a well would do nothing but impede my progress.

What about you?

I'd just finished battling a piece of God. [He says it like it's absolutely not strange at all.] I'm not about to let Him destroy the Earth and everything attached to it.

[If demons are real, Connor supposes God must be too. All he knows about religion is only in a factual and historical sense. Whether any of it is real is something he's never had to consider.

And he supposes he doesn't have to consider it too much right now. It doesn't really have anything to do with them being inside a well.]

Then we both have very pressing reasons to get back. It must be the same for others here, as well.

I won alongside my comrades. All that's left to do is a restructuring of the Corrupterment. As long as Fenrich and everyone else is there, I'm sure they'll see to it. Still, I hate to leave them alone. [Because they're his friends.]

[He doesn't know what any of that means.]

But you don't remember how you were separated from them?

[It's for the best, Connor.]

I have no idea. It could be another part of God decided I should be separated from my comrades. [His gaze narrows as he considers this possibility.] Very well. I accept that challenge. I'll make more comrades here!

[Connor just stares at him.]

Maybe we should get everyone out of the well, first? [Then he can make all the friends he wants.]

Yes, very well. I shall assist you in getting everyone out.

[Then he does! Of course there are others who are helping with the well rescue efforts.

Eventually they get everybody out and Val stretches himself out, apparently glad to be himself instead of a colony of bats.]

[Very impressive! Connor now thinks it would very useful if he could turn into a colony of bats, but alas, he cannot.]

You got everyone out very efficiently. I'm impressed, Mr. Valvatorez.

[It's a skill for only a very specific subclass of demons. And sadly, Connor is not a demon.

Val nods.]

Of course! If I cannot have my comrades from home, I'll make comrades with the people who are here. Humans do this by helping each other out of difficult situations.

[Technically, Connor is not a human, but whatever. It's possible Val was referring to the others in the well, after all.]

I'm going to see what else I can find out about how we all ended up in this place. If you learn anything, would you mind sharing that information with me? We can work together.

[Humans, demons, angels- Val will take friendship where he can get it.

So he's just a little touched when Connor says he wants to talk with him again. Sure, it's only for information gathering but it's still company.]

Shall we plan for another meeting by the well?

This seems like a good meeting place. [He looks around, taking a mental scan of the area, so he knows it for later. He's a little perturbed it's clearly not anywhere in Detroit, but that's what he's going to find information about!] Then yes, we'll meet back here after we've looked around.

Then we shall meet again tomorrow. I don't know if there's any way to tell time here. [He can't set a specific time. Tsk.]
