t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. [Valvatorez... has no idea who this person is! That's not particularly new for him. There are plenty of people he doesn't know. It's just that usually he's at least aware of where he is when that happens.]

I am Prinny Instructor Valvatorez!

[He sweeps his cape and it seems to swish in a completely non-existent breeze. It only lasts a moment before he places a hand on his hip and looks at the stranger.] And you are?

[organfarm]

[ Prinny. What's a prinny? What does this guy instruct them in? What -- oh god he has a cape. Who even wears capes. It swooshes, and Jion's startled into responding. ]

Haru! Specialist Haru ... sir.

[ This guy did say 'instructor,' but now he's not sure if that 'sir' was even merited. He still has no idea what's going on here. ]

Uh, don't suppose you'd know what's going on here, Mr. Valvatorez?

[promissum]

[He instructs Prinnies on how to be Prinnies, of course!

It doesn't seem like the "sir" or the "mister" are bothering him in the least.]

Specialist of what?

[He shakes his head.]

This is the first time I've ever woken up at the bottom of a well. While I can't say I'm enjoying it, the company hasn't been the worst.

[organfarm]

Of ... of medicine? I'm a medic. That's my rank. It's --

[ Then again, is this really the best time to be explaining what his rank is? He really wants to ask what a Prinny Instructor is, too, but that should probably also wait until they're out of the well, huh.

Jion shakes his head and looks up. ]

-- never mind. I mean, I guess you're right in that it could be worse company down here, but we should probably try to get out, first. [ Pause. A furtive glance over. ] Right?

[promissum]

Hmhmhm... [That's definitely a low chuckle from the demon.] Very well, Medic. I will get you out of here. It'll be simple enough as long as you don't have a fear of flying.

[He looks at Haru and tries to judge it for himself, but honestly an answer would be appreciated.]

[organfarm]

[ His name isn't 'Medic,' he wants to point out, but he's a little preoccupied trying to see if he can get a decent fingerhold on the surface of the well. He's pressed up against the side, sliding his hands over the cold surface and glances back curiously at Valvatorez. ]

You're gonna fly us out of here? [ Jion gives a weak laugh. Good joke. He wishes they could just fly out. ] Good thing I'm not scared of flying then, huh.

[promissum]

[Oh, Valvatorez is aware. He just has no reason to use his name yet. Names have to be earned, you see.]

Indeed I am!

[One moment Val is a human shaped person, and the next he's an entire colony of bats, grabbing at Jion's clothes and lifting him up to the top of the well.

Once that's been accomplished, the bats resolve themselves into the humanoid form again.]

[organfarm]

[ Jion's brain almost shuts down when the guy just ... explodes into bats. Because that's the sort of thing that happens in movies. Not actually, for real, in front of him. And then the bats converge upon him, and he screams.

At least he's too panicked to actively struggle or fight back, not until he's dumped on the ground. As soon as he has solid ground beneath him, Jion scrambles back a few paces, spluttering in his shock. ]

What the fuck! What -- what the hell was that! What are you!

[promissum]

[For Val this is just a normal day in the life... though he's very rarely had to turn into bats to lift people places. Well, new life experiences and all that.

At least Haru doesn't struggle enough that he just drops him back in the well.]

Me? I'm a Prinny Instructor, like I said. [Oh wait. No, he's probably referring to the abilities he just used, isn't he?] I am also a vampire demon.

[organfarm]

Vampire demon?!

[ Dragging himself back one more pace, though at least his breathing's calmed down a little, since Valvatorez doesn't look like he's gonna do the bat-thing again. ]

That doesn't even make any sense! Vampires are vampires and demons are demons. And ... and neither of them are even supposed to be real!

[promissum]

[Val looks perfectly like himself and he hasn't been asked to turn into something. So here he is.]

I know demons have been slacking in their noble duties, but I assure you I am real. Vampires are a subclass of demons where I'm from.

[organfarm]

... ooooooh, god. [ Jion is usually pretty adaptable, but even he needs a moment to process this, burying his head in his hands. Alright. He woke up in a well and got flown out by a demon-vampire. Cool. Got it.

His fingers drag down his face when he looks up. ]

Okay. Okay, let's say -- no, okay. so you're a vampire-demon. I believe that. Then ... do you still just drink blood? Or do you eat whole people or something?

[promissum]

[Valvatorez doesn't look squeamish about this, but he does look like somebody's asked him a very strange question.]

Why would I eat people? [Why do people think demons eat humans?] Honestly...

No, I only need blood. These days I've been eating raw sardines to fulfill my blood thirst and my lack of human nutrients.

[organfarm]

Raw sardines?

[ It's just weird enough that it weirdly helps him calm down. The mental image of Valvatorez chowing down on whole, raw sardines is ridiculous. Jion stares at him vacantly for a moment before nodding, subconsciously fighting back a wry smile. ]

Man, that sounds ... kinda gross. But I guess you gotta get your food somehow, huh. If you usually need human nutrients.

[promissum]

[Get used to that weirdness, Jion. There's more of that coming.]

They contain Vitamin B12, selenium, phosphorus, omega-3 fatty acids as well as calcium. They're one of the world's healthiest foods! If I eat them raw I get all those nutrients and their blood! They are the perfect food.

[organfarm]

I mean, you're not wrong, sardines are fine, but I think I'd still prefer them cooked ...

[ An awkward laugh as he gives that half-assed answer. And then Jion pauses, seeming to think over something. ]

-- hey, uh, Mr. Valvatorez. So do you not drink human blood any more, then? If you just eat sardines? Do they even have sardines here?

[promissum]

As long as you're eating them, Medic. There are so many people that dismiss them outright.

[He seems pleased that Jion likes them at all.]

I don't. I made a promise and as a proud and noble demon, I am bound to keep it. [Only to himself. He's the only person in the world keeping him to it. Especially here in this new, weirdly colorless, world.]

[organfarm]

Oh.

[ Jion looks just a little disappointed that Valvatorez doesn't drink blood any more. But only briefly before he wipes the look off his face to give a nod. ]

That's cool, though! That you have principles like that. I can really respect that. [ Pause. ] Are you actually a noble? Am I supposed to be referring to you, like ... sir? Your honor?

[promissum]

[ Val, as it so happens, completely misses the disappointment. They're talking about principles now and that's much more important. ]

My steward calls me his lord, but no one else is bound to it. Nobility is simply a quality of having high ideals. Like the old human concept of knights.

[organfarm]

[ That's ... an interesting concept. Demons having their own system of chivalry like knights. Jion's alright with dropping the disappointment, because this is perfectly interesting in its own right. ]

So then is that, like, a thing? Do a lot of demons not drink blood? Or is that just you? Do you fight with the ones who do drink blood?

[promissum]

Most demons do not drink human blood. Only my kind needs it.

[Not all demons are vampires, after all.

He's quiet for a moment before shaking his head.]

I haven't had fights with any other vampires. Most were against demons who were slacking in their duties. They were distracted with power grabs and status instead of properly scaring humans.
